  1. The graphics are not very different from those he uses today.

True, the sprites aren't all that different, but in G1 and G2 the graphics have a very retro/80s games feel to them, complete with less realistic colors and limited shading. Also, neither of those games had a junk bag for the PC to store useless items in. (None of which are drawbacks that would be worth an overhaul from my perspective, but I can see where Jeff might feel the need to do so.)

  2. The someone else is Cybele in Serdica. She pays 70c per pact paper, 50c per arcane scroll with a bonus. There is a flag that factors this in, but I do not know the results.

    Posting at the same time

There are other factors that can balance this out, but..

If you give too many arcane scrolls to Cybele, you risk getting a worse ending for Avadon. (I assume the same is true for the Pact if you give her too many Pact papers.)

  3. Adding to this: Eumenia (a person in Tawon) sells blessings (small boosts various defense or damage percentages) for 2000 apiece, so that's another huge money sink.

This is probably the best reason to save money, actually... that and potions/scrolls.

  4. Remakes are a long way off, and I think romance's inclusion depends largely on its reception in Avadon 2 (and probably 3).

That said, I'm not sure it's a good fit for Geneforge. Maybe G3, but Greta and Alwan already have their own non-romantic arcs. It could be added, but I'm not sold on the way it should be. And Avadon 2's romance seemed fine but hardly a great addition to the game.

—Alorael, who would rather see more characterization to go around than a single character or handful of them given romances, especially if they don't get enough character to go with it.

Or enough game time with the PC for a believable romance to develop. (I felt that was the real drawback with Ava2's romance arc, not enough game time with Silke/Rainer before they got kidnapped for me to really grasp how my characters might feel about them. I felt the scout character was decently fleshed out for what appearances they did make, however.)

  5. In V2, one of the rebels near the Remote Tower in Blackwood is named Elspeth.

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the name Miranda appears in King Lear; rather, isn't she one of the main characters from The Tempest? (Cordelia is a name from King Lear, though)

  6. I always thought it was "Pit-Bred" not "Pit-Brad"?

But yes, there are a number of cultural references and jokes in SW games. (And this is from someone who's only played A:EftP, Nethergate: Resurrection, Ava1 and Ava2, plus a couple demos.)

  7. Right. Fixed. By the way, the spoiler tags were just for length; I assume the title suffices for spoiler tags for the whole thread.

...and if I hadn't been so brain-dead from studying, I probably would have thought of that too :p

I'll add that the part of this that I found surprising is that you don't have to give the satchel to the scout in order to get a kiss. As long as you tell Silke that you're going to give her the satchel, but then you don't do it, and you otherwise are nice to her, you can still get a kiss.

I also found a little surprising how easy it was to get on Protus's good side, but then, I ended up doing that completely by accident in my first game.

Then, too, you don't have to do a lot to get up to 5 of the 9 sidequests completed. Some of those quests (kill two of the optional super-enemies) are much harder than others (do the Callan quests).

Yeah, it is quite surprising how easy some of those are. Especially flattering Protus; you'd think a Dharamite judge and Heart of Avadon would be a bit jaded and tired of flattery by now. I was expecting my superior for this game to be a bit more like Miranda in Ava1, or even Callan. Not an open, friendly type like Protus.

  8. From what I've seen and heard, this is correct, except for one thing:

    [spoileralt=Fixed location typo.]Done Yatsua, Deniz, and Monitor Sabre quests — (4,21) >= 6 and (4,29) >= 6 and (10,27) >= 6)

For Yutsua, follow the quest line until you drive off Drake Khremess. For Deniz, follow the quest line until you kill the mercenaries in the Riverlands. (Both Yutsua and Deniz are in Rockridge Keep, and you must report back to them for completion.)[/spoileralt]

  9. Re-explore the zone after killing him.

Explore all the paths that have opened up until you get text that says something about finding a broken scarab. Keep following that path till you run into a bunch of titans and a giant chief. After fighting them, keep going till you see a wall with a body next to it. Click the body to get the token.

  10. Interesting! Neither of my shaman PCs are summoner types (they're both more healing/buff oriented characters) but this is good to know anyway.

Triumph - yup, all animal summons have activated abilities. I was disappointed to see Drake only gets Cone of Fire though; didn't it have up to Circle of Fire in Avadon 1?

  11. I appreciate the way certain people's "quests" remain in the quest log to let you know you might need to check back with them eventually to continue a chain of quests...but I also sometimes feel shades of the G3 boat syndrome as I have to traverse between portals to see if anyone is offering new quest stages. Is there any chance more people in Lynaeus could send messages to Polus (just like the other Hands of the party do) and have him let me know "So and so in Monitor Base C has news for you," or "Monitor Dude in Rockridge has a lead for you," or whatever?

Good idea. Perhaps this could be used in other ways, too? I know there's an option to report him to Heart Callan as a spy (which she brushes off), but if he's getting messages from the Tawon - even unimportant ones - well, a loyal Hand might feel obliged to report that, at least.

  12. This is true, as well, I suppose. However, I would say that it's somewhat debatable who actually started that fight. Sure, Dedrik was the one who actually stepped in and did the killing, but the Kva would/should have known that by building a fort near the border of the Contested Lands and sending armed mercenaries there, that the Wyldrylm wouldn't take such a thing lightly. Besides, there's also the issue of Dedrik's banishment here. He's been away from his homeland and family for who knows how long, and the only way to get that revoked even partially is for him to do this.

He may be impulsive and, yes, a bit foolish, but I have a hard time seeing him as an idiot. Out of his depth maybe, but not an idiot.
