  1. Well I'ma wait and send my money till I see how this plays out then. Tell him to use Lulu or something to give me a printed booklet then. Zoibie want printed materials.
  2. Quote: Also send the Geneforge 5 hint book. (Delivered electronically.) (Add $7.00.) Does this mean Spiderweb isn't doing print hint books anymore? That would really disappoint me, I love the hint books, if only to collect them all. The more recent ones have been really well produced.

I'm a laid back guy, who has some skill with his fingers, so I liked playing it primarily with the keyboard, only rarely using the mouse. But in A4 and A5, it favored the mouse, for checking containers, speaking to people, etc etc. Lovin' it. A1-3 felt super Epic, this gigantic, organic, underground world. A4 and 5 just don't seem to capture that worldly feel (A5 is still my favorite though, the story is fantastic). I also preferred the A1-3 keyboard system I could fly through with the keyboard.
  4. While I'm grateful that G5 will adapt to my screen, I'll take everything in it's proper aspect ration any day. I'm the same way with TV and Movies. No bloody stretching for me. To each their own however. Part of the issue is that 800x600 blown up on today's high resolution screens just gets a little blocky.
  5. Redownload the demo, install, grab the reg code out of it. Email Spiderweb with your information (including the new reg code from the new download) and they will generate a new key for you. They keep all your pertinent information on hand so as long as they can verify you've purchased you can always get a new key. Jeff Vogel runs an honest shop round these parts.
  6. Great I'm starting Grad School in the fall. Luckily I should have a hundred or so sick hours by then. "Hey, boss I don't think I'll be in for the next week, I think I caught Geneforge 5".
  7. You'll get a bigger view of the grand picture that is Avernum. Think of it as say, a series of books like The Dresden Files. Each book can be read independently with no real loss but reading them in order builds a sense of continuity. Not plot busting information but nice like the cherry on top of a sundae. You'll defiantly feel more vested in the world playing them in order. And when you get to A5, switching sides, flipping the coin so to speak, brilliant. As the Trilogy is under 50 bucks you get a lotta game (as in hundreds of hours, put the coffee on game).

  9. Nope, just do all the town quests and then go skinning. There lies the dilemma, for some extra power and goodies from the crazy ol fart you have to "burn some bridges" on your way through the game.

  12. I would say buy a mac but I think a book on grammar would be more useful.
  13. Pear PC maybe but performance won't be great and you'll need a licensed copy of the Mac OS anyway. The windows version is due out soon and I would suggest spending your remaining days stocking up on coffee, you'll need it.
  14. Right it is, I figured they were going about it the way I did. I came across the rapids (with Geas) and in my usual methodic exploratory fashion found the drake before HL. I proceeded to kill him and head farther up to find a way back to Gladwell. I soon realized the mistake I had made......I only had one save......saved after killing the drake.....beverages and cussing ensued. So I had to restart but it was alright, I was able to distribute my skill points a little better the second time around (tool use and nature lore are pretty usefull) .
  15. Don't kill it till you have taken out Lyssak the Beast, otherwise Harkin's landing will be vrrrrrrrryy hostile toward you (I know I did it the first time around......). After that the Mayor gives you a key to get down there in his super secret back room. At that point it's still safer to take the back way so I'd ham up a few points in tool use.
  16. I used repel spirt and ran around like a mad man, I'm around level 19, I'm not sure what anyone else was when they came through this quest.
  17. *smack* I have both. Through and crystals installed. Thanks for the help! Sometimes we overlook the damned simplest things. In my defense we are working migs of overtime at work and rather than rest up on my few off hours I spend my time playing Spiderweb games and Mass Effect so my brain is probably crying. But man A5 is so damn great, I just want to explore every nook and cranny and talk to everyone, I think Vogel took a double shot of pure inspiration when he scripted up the story for this one.
  18. I'm attempting to complete the quest Machinery Repairs. I have the crystals from Solberg and the old bat tells me to go upstairs to install the crystals but when I go up there a magic barrier seems to be intact in the direction I need to go. I haven't used the character editor so I don't think anything should be broken. I'm wondering if maybe I'm looking in the wrong location for the machine? Thanks in advance.
  19. I think you can just download the demo and install it, if you have a registered version it will keep that registration on the updated version and it won't copy over your save files or anything.
  20. All the download links seem to still be pointing to version 1.2 from February 15th 2007 yet?
  21. Unfortunately what you think and what is aren't all that similar (note the serenity reference). It's against Apple's Terms of Service to run the OS on non-Apple hardware. You may or may not be able to get a copy you purchase running on Non-Apple hardware but you probably won't find much help here on how to circumvent the protections put into place. For probably twice the cost of the 129 for a retail copy you can find something used (200-300) that will come with a licensed copy of 10.3 or higher (all macs are licensed for whatever OS they originally came with). Apple often runs deals on late model mini's as well. Also there are no "freeware" versions of Mac OS X, the latest version Apple provides free is 7.5.5 I believe. http://www.baucomcomputers.com/ is a good place to look for used Mac equipment if you're not into ebay.
  22. Different strokes for different folks. I'm a Mac FANATIC for sure, but whatever works. Lotta folks like tinker this tinker that, not the platform for them. I know people that thrive on having problems with their frankenputers. I think they have a genetic irregularity that causes them to die if they don't have something to fix on their computer. I'd hate to see them wither away from lack of sustenance. I'll tell you to get a Mac day in day out but XP with the latest patches, firefox, and AVG is generally pretty solid. Vista....that's a different story, BANE of my work existence. As for reliability, 9 times out of 10 I'll agree but every so often you get a model that has some sort of inherent issue. I've seen a batch of Macs come in with say bad ram, and a batch of HPs come in with bad hard drives. In general I think apple tends to use higher quality components than the big box PC manufactures, however users building their own machine or getting a bit higher end windows box tend to purchase similar quality components. In closing, I'm a Mac FANATIC, but no Mac Bigot. I'm down with whatever. However, if you call me after hours with your Windows problems @ home, I direct you to apple.com I thank you Jeff for filling my Mac's voracious appetite for quality software. 20" imacs get HUNGRY.
  23. I did the Kherrr quest after taking the test. After you talk to hem and he goes down, you can still climb down the ladder in the NW corner of the Fang Clan area. He'll be hanging out in the area above West of the exit (I think west, above anyway).
  24. There are ways to hack around it to get it installed on other x86 hardware but it violates the terms of the license of the OS software which in a nutshell says you're only allowed to install this on a Macintosh. But the game is a UB, as long as you can boot the Mac OS, you should be able to run Avernum 5.
  25. A5 has an incredibly engrossing story, I've pretty much been playing nonstop for the past week, eat, sleep a little, go to work, and A5. I 'm just compelled to complete that next quest, or find Gladwells next item. I have to say I find the Lark and Gladwell quest arc's to be enjoyable and challenging, plus they lend a lot to the back-story of this area of Avernum.
