  1. That's why I like them. They're one of the really alien looking creations. They're one of the only creations I'd ever actually feared. Those, along with other things like servant minds, turrets, living tools, the strange flora, etc, make the world especially interesting for me.
  2. (man it's been a while) I love vlish. They're honestly one of my favorites. I've tried a few times to level one or two through to the end game, but I could never get it to work.
  3. Ah, ok, never mind then. I remember leveling faster in G5, but I don't remember any experience hikes.
  4. No. It's a fresh install and the latest version. I'll do a bit of playtesting and see if I can repro the bug reliably.
  5. So I decide to get back into G5, and maybe finally beat it. I beat the first 4, but never actually got through the 5th. I start up a new game, blaze through "The Presence", and go meet Astoria. The thing is, I'm already level 17. I'm literally just passed the demo section. I thought it was odd. Looking back, I realized a lot of the stuff I killed gave me 40xp, even the worms and rats. So I decide to test it out. At level 17, I go gank some serviles and civilians in Minallah. 40xp, every one. They were all one hit kills. As near as I can tell, my minimum experience gain is 40. On the one hand, I'd reach level 40 in no time. On the other, playing like this is just boring.

If you let Monarch live, he says he'll flee into the western continent by heading through the southern pass. Which means that several months after the PC arrives at the southern citadel, which happens 3 years before the events of G5, there's a crazy shaper wandering around the Drypeak region. According to the timeline, Monarch seems to be the most coherent candidate.
  7. It may be that torment lessens the chance of getting the full 35% resistance, while on easy it's easy to get. Originally Posted By: Untamed Banana Slug I just made a rather shocking realization. If I needed any further justification as to why Avernum 5 is a cheap pile of garbage, I just got it. It does sound like your complaining because torment is to hard. While you do this, you seem to imply that avernum 5 has many flaws. If it has so many flaws, why did you buy it? If you didn't buy it, why are you complaining?
  8. I'd have loved to have my own keep to run. It was one of my favourite parts from BG2. I'd also like to be able to create a virus, that I could leave in some town and come back three days later to a burned town and mass graves. Come to think of it, I just want a Genefore RTS.
  9. I've had this problem for a while, and I've tried everything the tech support page says to try. Often when I am trying to enter a scenario written by a fan rather than Jeff, the game crashes. In fact, it almost always happens. It does sometimes crash when I am trying to load up A Small Rebellion, but not often, and it never crashes when I load up HLPM. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a problem with Vista?
  10. I was carrying some as I walked into Lorelei, but the guards kept catching me. Then I noticed that you can use skribane. So I used it to get rid of it, and I noticed my health spell points went up. I took no notice, cause I figured it couldn't be permanent. But it's been a few days (game time)and the effects are still there. Is skribane permanent?
  11. I'm usually a purist. One melee slith, with pole weapons, One nephil archer, a human mage, and a human priest. The way i play, all the stats that are necessary (archer:Dex,Bows,Mage: Mage spells, Int etc) are up to above ten by level 13, but every thing else is at zero. Then I start to branch out a the end of the game. It work surprisingly well, and you can usualy skip a chapter and not notice the difference.

That would only work to a degree. Even though you could spend lots of time preparing and training and working, when you actually get the canister you won't be able to fully understand what you've just "learned". NPC's in the game say that canister trained people/serviles can't teach their magic because they don't actually know what they are doing, and this leads to loss of control. That's why Litalia is the most powerfull human, because she has formal training in the subject. Besides, it makes no sense to spend ten years getting a PhD in chemistry, then going off and becoming a architect.

The brain produces lots of things that can hurt it if their production isn't kept tightly regulated. There's a whole family of genetic diseases called lysosomal storage disorders that result from defects in the enzymes that break down various cellular components. The undigested material gradually builds up to toxic levels inside cells and the brain is one of the first organs to be adversely affected, usually causing brain damage and death in early childhood. Good point. Not completely what I meant though. I also meant that if the brain is in some way damaged, it would affect more than just emotions. Like in many depression cases, which is often caused by chemical imbalance in the brain, the victim would experience physical exhaustion along with it. So if the brain is damaged, the skills learned would be in some way affected as well, beyond the usual "you looked at me funny, now BURN FOR IT" Shoulda probably explained this in the first place, but I have exams to study for. Again, I feel like I'm becoming more and more socialy unacceptable. Oh well, the games are worth it.

That being said, these new chemicals could cause arrogance and anger problems. NOTE: This theory doesn't apply to Strength, Endurance or Dexterity. Feels kinda weird using the word "theory" in context of video games. Feels like I now have no life.
  15. The Sholai shapers could have gotten mixed in a rebbelion of their own, thus springing out a rebel sect, a shaper sect, and a trakovite sect. But the Trakovites won the war, and obliterated any evidence of shaping. If this is true, then we've a pretty good idea where this rebellion is gonna end up. But wait, we've got some random shmoe who gets picked to fight in the war, turns to a demi-god over the next year, and then decides the fate of all humanity (on terrestria), thus breaking the cycle that has raged on for eons. On a side note: has anyone else found the Geneforge story to have some similarities to Johnathon Stroud's Bartimaeus Trilogy?

  17. What I don't like is have to switch armour for certain circumstances. Like being able to plow through strong fyoras and then some shmoh cryoa takes me out in two hits(exagerated yes). So in terms of resistance armour, it would be possible to have armour give elemental resistance and just have it increase both fire and cold attacks.
  18. Must.. resist... temptation.. to argue... must not... topic necro..... Nope I gave in. Nephil and Slith are essentialy the same as elves and dwarves. Elves are small, dextrous, and shoot bows. So do/are the nephil. Dwarves are strong, live in caves, are good a smithing, and use axes. So are/do the slith, 'cept it's halberds not axes.
  19. That runed trall was laugh-able. It couldn't even touch my cryoa. If you beefed up it's dexterity than maybe, but I think that the upgrade should have a magic range attack.
  20. Maybe I am wrong, but it seemed to me that I got the same with one creation as no creations, at least in G4. Oh well, my idea is still a valid one.

And the fact that it reduces my XP makes creations less desirable to make... . I should think that the essence loss and the XP cost of building up your abilities to create them would be enough punishment? And if one wants to be challenged more as somebody using creations: one can always raise the difficulty level. Thankfully your creations don't steal XP if there is only one, so an infiltrator/agent could have 1 creation and lose nothing but essence, which isn't a problem when you usually use icy spray. I'd like it if the the number of creations it took to steal XP was varied by class. One for those who are terrible at shaping, 2 for who average for shaping, and 3 for those who specialize in shaping. Because logicaly one extra creation won't make too much difference if someone was trained to use just creations, but would help alot to someone who should be alone.
  22. I was thinking the PCs were from a town in the northern frontier. They'd be indifferent to the the power struggles because of the distance from civilization. Then they would be sent out to figure out why no-one is sending out additional supplies. They'd realize that supplies were being intercepted for personal use becuase civil war was about to break out, while picking up hints about external influence. They'd go to the castle, and all the hints they found would be proved. They would then be sent to scout out this external influence while helping the different states of avernum solve there problems with each other. It would all end with a battle with a general of the external influence's army, while a large battle is happening throughout Avernum, the surface and waking Vahnatai clans. Or, you could discover the external influence and decide to join them, for one reason or another. But then there would have to be more than hints of the External Influence. There would have to be some communication with some members, and attempted conscription.

There are likely a lot of disappointed poeple on the surface now. No doubt, the addiction symptoms on the surface are an epedemic. Edit:typos
