  1. Part of the problem I have with the idea of teaching people to carry themselves in a way that will keep them from getting bullied(aside from the parallel with rape apologists – thank you so much for posting, Triumph!) is that there are some things that directly interfere with the general idea of confidence. When I was being bullied, I was still ill, and the medications that I was being given made me shake constantly and be generally a little out of it. My mum's best friend has MS and has trouble finding words, and so speaks extremely slowly, which I know can be seen as lacking in confidence. I do think general people skills classes would be good, but I think I'd kind of want them to be a combination sociology/people skills/tolerance class, which is probably way too much to hope for.

  3. In eleventh grade I ended up going to a new school and starting a few months later than everyone else. I got all sorts of rumours spread about me that were harmless enough at first, if confusing(a lot of people seemed to think I was from France), but escalated into less friendly ones about drug use and other extracurricular activities. There was one assignment in my computer class to make a brochure taking one side of a controversial topic and since I had no intention of purchasing Publisher, I stayed after school to work on it. A group of some of the people who were worst came into the classroom, surrounded me, and started calling me things along the lines of babykiller. The teacher, who was sitting 3 feet away, didn't even look up. My mum took me out the school after that.
  4. When I first started playing SW games(the first Avernums), my character creation tactic was to pick people I knew and build them into characters, just for the amusement of "who would be awesome in a fight?" It worked fairly well, and this is still my go-to tactic after "if I was a singleton and could actually hold my own in a fight..."
  5. Yeah, I mainly work on the computer too. I bring it onto my bed.
  6. I usually study on my bed. I tend to treat it as if I'm sitting in the middle of a larger-than-normal desk. My actual desk always has all of books and notebooks arranged in piles based off of what days the classes are on.
  7. Okay, so now I've gone and officially joined the Takers. My real life reason is to make myself be not nice in a game, since I've gotten to the point where I don't steal even if there are no consequences(though I'm not sure that doesn't just mean I have messed up priorities, since I have no qualms about killing in-game). My in-game reason for joining is because my character didn't feel like fighting or sneaking into the research labs and joining meant she could walk through the front gate and get free stuff. She's undecided over whether to kill everyone at some point or not. This whole ordeal has been a bit wearing on her sanity. Oh god, I just realised that I had to say that my character was lazy and mentally unstable in order to justify my actions. Well, t least with the canisters it makes sense...
  8. I've just started to replay the first Geneforge with the intention of playing the entire series in order(I've only played the first two before). I decided that I wasn't going to align myself with the Awakened, since I always pick the middle ground in Geneforge games. So I made it to Pentil, but I'd just come from reading some blogs on religious extremism, and the choices reminded me too much of that so I closed out of conversations instead of actually making a choice. So then I thought, okay, if I can kill Ellrah and get out of Watchhill on my first try, I'll join the Takers. So I did, but then opened a saved game, since I hadn't actually reached Kazg yet and didn't want to burn any bridges too early in the game. Now I've cleared the entire bottom half of the map, and I still can't commit to anyone. I have such a hard time saying mean things in computer games and it's dumb. Does anyone else have troubles/thoughts on alignments?
  9. So did I. Curse exhaustion.
  10. Eh, the zombie Nazis got boring pretty quickly. I'm not sure if it's the overload of zombies lately, the fact that the level gets kind of dull after a few hours, or both.
  11. But the point of owning a computer is to give me things to do other than staring out the window.
  12. 3. There was the Richard White cult and Thralni's cow religion(I want to name his chicken fortune teller too, but I'm not sure if that counts). 4. Does the one Sherbiebaby and I were making up count? 11. "Off with their heads!" 9. Shadowvale, CalRef, I'm blanking on the infamous one. I think it started with a P. 13. I know there was a Marx, but I can't remember if it was the Manifesto or Das Kapital. 14. Dikiyoba. 15. Synergy. EDIT: Clearly I'm awful at remembering multiple examples.
  13. I just found out that it's not just the public schools in Maryland that are being stingy with air conditioning. My sister works at one of the universities here and told me that the only reason her building was air conditioned was because it was the one with the servers in it. Labs in other buildings had to go without.
  14. Master1, the letting out early for a lack of air conditioning in Maryland seems to be a normal thing. I remember it happening for me as far back as elementary school, and there was one time in high school where we were let out early, then our principal said no, it didn't seem hot enough because she had air conditioning in her office and all the kids whose parents hadn't gotten them yet were herded back to class for about a half an hour before people came to their senses. They wouldn't even let one guy out to get his saxophone that had been left on the street while he went to find a ride(the people he'd asked to watch it hadn't brought it inside when they'd been told to come back).
  15. I'm in college studying music. I don't know what specific classes I'll be taking yet other than private voice lessons, since I've only seen the indicative course guide from my new school's website. Personally, I'm kind of meh about summer and can't wait for school to start again.
  16. I'm reading Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks. It's great, though the talk about musicians getting into accidents and becoming tone deaf and the like terrifies me.
  17. Master1 beat me to it. When I was in Massachusetts early this month, it was too hot for long sleeves and, on some days, jeans during the day, but at night it was too cold to be out for a significant period of time without a coat. Then I came back here, and it was hotter without much change at night. It doesn't help that my family only has air conditioners in a couple rooms.
  18. Yes, this has been covered multiple times, but I agree with Nikki that we should avoid harassing Loyal Servile of Sasuke Uchiha about it. I know my posts on here from when I was twelve aren't too different, and I also know that this was the best forum I could have grown up on, because not only were there clear behavioural standards, people were patient while I adjusted to them. Of course, it's also up to Loyal Servile of Sasuke Uchiha to listen and consider what people are saying(this teacher thing has drawn out for far too long, but I haven't seen anything to suggest it was due to maliciousness), and hopefully that combined with refraining from useless, mean comments such as "we don't like him" will make this a nicer environment for everyone. I mean, come on, you put up with me when I was babbling on about stabbing people with mechanical pencils.
  19. My high school teachers in Baltimore told me they got the option of teaching summer school for a paycheck or not and having to make do. Of course, this was about five years ago, and I'm going off of what they said, not off of looking at contracts or anything.
  20. The point is that it wasn't relevant. He said most adults don't get much time off, and it isn't specifically in the summer. Teachers were not relevant to that statement; they fell outside of the "most."
  21. Also, I know many of the teachers I had took on summer jobs because they don't get paid over the summer. So they can either have a break and stress about money, or give up the break and not.
  22. The band was named Alice Cooper, then the lead singer changed his name, and he pays his former bandmates royalties for the right to do so. EDIT: Marilyn Manson did the same thing, but later.

  24. I officially finished on May 7th, and I don't move into my new dorm until the 17th or 18th of September. As for weather, never ever ever go to Baltimore in the summer. We're already getting above 90 degrees F.
