Maybe it's Jeff's way to reward the extreme keeners. Or maybe he downs a few beers to celebrate posting the thing to FTP, and doesn't get around to the rest for a while. This just occurred to me, but I bet he wants to wait until G4 is put up on the site that does registration for him; then he uploads the the formal announcements.
  3. Well, it downloaded, installed, and ran for me. But since I'm still in the middle of G2, that's all it's doing for a while. Why one earth would the file be up this much earlier than the website updates?
  4. Quote: Originally written by Guardian Magma: Just be aware that there is an item limit for each area. Hey, this will be also in GF4? Are you sure there's an area limit? I think there's actually just a limit to the number of things you can put in each block.
  5. Quote: Originally written by Guardian Magma: Excuse me Randomizer, but this is your first betatesting experience? Without denying your point, the information about the dropped creation limit is already available from DV and the released screenshots.
  6. Quote: Originally written by Nioca: Actually, now that I think about it, there was a spot in GF2 where you could repair a Submission Baton. However, if your tool use wasn't high enough, you simply made it squeak with displeasure. That was in G1. Or at least there's a place in G1 where you can repair a submission baton.
  7. For some reason when I was reading Dikiyoba's stories I kept picturing the turtles more as feathered than fluffy. How strange.
  8. Quote: Originally written by Nioca: To my knowledge, batons don't have brains. Besides, batons are the equivalent of modern-day firearms. Well, you do have to coax them into mating...

And no, you'll always go insane if you use the Geneforge; I think I've found all possible endings, and there's no way around the insanity. Okay, thanks a lot. I appreciate that. Kinda sucks about the insanity, though. It makes me angry that Trajkov is a stronger man than my character. ... No wonder I was confused about the batons. I'd forgotten how much changed between G1 and G2.
  10. Quote: Originally written by Delicious Vlish: Dexterity makes you hit more, strength makes you hit harder. Where did that come from? Anyway, I get how the leveling system works, but thanks for that anyway. I've now played far enough that my Fyora is worth something. Oh, and I knew I had another question: When I played the demos years ago I could have sworn I found a way to reload batons outside combat. Now the only way I can do it is in combat by using a turn. Help?
  11. Thanks! I'm on OS X, though, so Windows stuff is not so helpful in that regard.

  13. I just bought the trilogy, and have some random questions: 1) Is it possible to get an ending for G1 in which you rejoin the shapers (after destroying the Geneforge) where they don't distrust you? (ie, you don't get the "always wonder what might have been" thing). Similarly, is there a way to use the Geneforge without going insane? 2) I played G1 as a Shaper and just started G2 as a Guardian. The fyora I created at the beginning really sucks (he misses his shots as often as not, and I don't think that ever happened in G1). Is this because I'm a Guardian or because in G2 fyoras suck? 3) In G1 you can pause the game by hitting escape and then switch into some other applications. I haven't found a way to switch out of G2 yet; is there one? Think that's it for now; thanks in advance for any answers.
  14. So I'm noticing the FPS counter in the upper-left land area seems to be ~10 -- does anybody know what the other games normally run at? That seems painfully low.

  17. A lot of newer CRTs are incredibly cheap. Having said that, did you try running A4 @ the irritating 60 hertz? I can't stand it on my desktop, but games often look fine at lower refresh rates.
  18. Anybody know if there's a difference between this and the beta version?
  19. I have the Avernum trilogy on CD and want to update Avernum and A2 to be OS X compatible. Unfortunately, the updates seem to unregister the game. Is there any way to update without losing the registered status? (While I could just get keys again, the games were actually ordered by my father several years ago and I'd like to not go through the hassle of figuring out addresses and stuff.)
  20. You missed a lever or something somewhere, all the spellbook doors open.
  21. I believe both the Oozing and Flaming Blades had more flat damage, though Demonslayer still gives you a huge and wonderful bonus against demons.

Due to implementation they aren't entirely believable this time, but simply making use of them is not necessarily a bad thing.
  23. I've become confused with Dorikas too. I had no trouble with this fight, but I never saw him again. Was I supposed to? I ask because in my endgame text I swear it said that I killed him. (Though I was admittedly falling asleep after finally finishing the game, so maybe I'm just wrong.)
  24. Of course, it's rather faster (and probably more SP-efficient) to just send up one hasted acid-resistant melee fighter and let the priest de-acidify him every turn.
