  1. I have to say, making a duplicate of A1's Lost Bahssikava in the BoA editor was tremendously instructive about town design. I didn't really get the concept of correct placement of walls until I did that. That said, re-creating one three-level dungeon is completely different from re-creating dozens of outdoor sections and towns. After a certain point, it could get extraordinarily tedious and probably would not be very useful to anyone. But I definitely did find it helpful to re-make LB. Take that as you will.
  2. Makes you worse at everything. It counts as decreasing your skills by 1 point for every point of Dread Curse that you have. If you want to know a healer who can get rid of it, name which Avernum game you're playing and we can tell you. (Generally Tower of Magi is a good place to look.)
  3. Uh, or you could respect the fact that you are far from the first newbie to these forums and are far from the first to have asked this exact question of the same people in the same words. Most recently, this topic was on the same issue. Asking a question like this deserves much the same response as a newbie asking, "I killed the Chief Spider in VoDT and now I can't beat the game! What do I do?" At any rate, read CSR. Read the top-rated scenarios and the bottom-rated scenarios. You'll figure out what the community likes and dislikes in a scenario. Basically, fun, plot, characters, dialogue, atmosphere, coding, terrain layout, custom graphics, and miscellaneous other things.
  4. Okay, final update (I think). A few of the least likely calls as determined by myself, Garrison, and *i were stricken from the record (4.3, 4.4, 5.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, -- dealing with shop money, altering day length, and altering the rate at which creatures regenerate their health). I think this is the final edit, unless anyone has any strenuous objections. Now it's time for someone important that Jeff knows and to whom he might actually listen (*cough* Stareye *cough*) to send this in. EDIT: And Stareye sent it in. Now we'll just have to wait and see what he says.

The question was rather silly (and easily answerable if you had just read the entire thread -- note that he's been releasing new beta versions periodically and using this thread to announce it, as the first public beta was v0.8 and the current one is v0.12).
  6. To the best of my knowledge, you don't. You can turn off the sound in the preferences, but you can't actually change the sound.
  7. Moving... EDIT: Moved. Although really, I think a search of old threads would be better than a renewal of this topic. It's general, vague, and repetitious. But hey, I'm not here to judge.
  8. Oh, I completely agree with you, Smirf. I'm just saying there's no point in requesting it.
  9. It's not that it's unlikely. It's just not going to happen. The chances are not slim, but in fact none. Jeff has said this repeatedly, most notably in a post that was deleted in the last prune here, but remains at the Lyceum here . EDIT: Any final requests? I think I'm going to make the last adjustments tomorrow, ask for any final comments that anyone would like to make, and then... err... something will happen on Sunday. Someone will, like, send it to Jeff or something.
  10. Giantish are three times as powerful. EDIT 1: [deleted] EDIT 2: Oops. Wrong board. Probably the same, though.
  11. You double- and- triple-posted in the second page of this thread.

The problem with most scenarios being this large is that they take an incredible amount of time to finish and almost no one ever does. Okay, quick reality check. A 7 by 7 outdoors... that's about the size of A1 or A2, as you know because you mentioned it. A2 -- which had the engine already in place from Nethergate and A1, and the plot and most of the terrain already in place from E2, so that all that remained was porting from Exile to Avernum -- took Jeff working FULL TIME something on the order of a year. Do you really have all of the towns drawn out? In a 7 by 7 outdoors, I'd expect about 100 or so towns. I somewhat believe that you have 75% of the outdoors done, but given that 75% of the outdoors would be about 35-40 sections, that's still less than a quarter of the drawing. And if you've pumped out 35-40 outdoor sections in the time since BoA was released, you've either been doing this since the game first came out, or your outdoors lacks detail. And then adding scripts is, er, hardly a trivial task after that. Scripts for 100+ towns could well take years -- that's on the order of 600 hours of work, which at full-time speed would take about four months. By all means, keep working on this scenario, but don't ever expect to finish it. An article by Alcritas , who would know.
  13. Um, no. The cue "(You take note of this.)" indicates only that you have learned something that will affect your ability to do or say something else later on down the line (or, more technically, that an SDF is set). You are not actually required to note it in your journal, and in virtually all cases, one can repeat this message. The fact that it doesn't show up on a second or third repetition at all appears to be a glaring bug. And the fact that it repeats this on different computers indicates that it is probably not a corruption of any kind. One should be able to progress normally from this point despite the missing message, though.
  14. My scenario will be called Bahssikava. It's SO DARN CLOSE TO BEING DONE. I've made 20 towns, and I have two more to go. Virtually all of the writing is done; I just have to finish off the last part of the last dungeon and write the ending. Then some alpha testing, and I'll send out a beta call. I'm hoping to get that beta call out sometime this week, but who knows. School has really bogged me down, or else it would've happened two weeks ago. The scenario (if people aren't sick of the one-sentence plot summary by this point) is about sliths trying to get back to their homeland through Lost Bahssikava.
  15. I had to look this up, because I had forgotten this part. When you ask, "May I see the message?", this text appears in the dialogue box: "'He left me a note saying he left me a message on the back of his dresser. I found the message but I can't understand it!' (You take note of this.) He shakes his head. 'The work goes slow without his help. I hope someone finds him soon.'" There definitely appears to be a bug here. I can only get this message once. At any rate, his room is the northern one in the east hall of that same building. The dresser has a note in it. You should be able to do exactly what Smirf described, I think.
  16. Is this the favorite aspect of Nethergate's engine? Because I would have to say iso-3D, in that case (because of course Nethergate was the first SW game to pioneer the look that JV has used for the Avernum Trilogy and basically for the Geneforge series, too). Heights are pretty nifty, and everything just looks nicer. As far as plot or whatever, I liked the land of the dead. I just loved that area, exploring and fighting and collecting 100+ skill points all at once.
  17. Look at the front page of the Spiderweb site (towards the bottom of the page).
  18. Just a warning, Jack's Pants: you're pretty near banning right now. Asking for a registration code is an auto-ban offense, and you can very easily buy Spiderweb games internationally, so that is no excuse.
  19. This sounds like much the same reasoning that I used with NK0P... One word of warning: don't talk too much about your scen before you release it. Some scenarios have become running jokes because of that (ask Drakey about RiB, or heck, me about NK1: Oalen). If you need help, of course ask questions, but otherwise keep the advertising and previewing to a minimum until it's at least in beta.
  20. Excuse me while I scream violently for a few minutes.
  21. I'm going to define "end of next week" as Saturday the 18th, unless anyone has any objections. Then I'll make the final edit to the first post in this thread, and... well... it would be nice if someone important (and here I am thinking of Stareye) would send this to Jeff at that point because I am a nobody and I have no idea if he would just ignore a random e-mail from me. We could combine this with Keep's bugs topic in the final e-mail.
  22. There are certain aspects of BoE that have been improved for BoA that may have you kicking yourself if you stick with BoE. However, if you like the Exile appearance and spell set better, much can be done with BoE and you can definitely make scenarios for it and people will play them. BoA has far more powerful a scripting system, which makes it somewhat harder to learn. Either way, really.
  23. Uh, Thuryl, that's not possible. One can reuse the creature numbers (like, say, 239 in the example above). It would look like this. Code: begindefinecreature 239; import = 47;begindefinecreature 47; // Wight cr_level = 52; cr_hp_bonus = 100; cr_summon_class = 8;begindefinecreature 239; import = 48;begindefinecreature 48; // Ghost cr_level = 58; cr_hp_bonus = 100; cr_natural_armor = 40;begindefinecreature 239; import = 49;begindefinecreature 49; // Lich cr_level = 60; cr_amount_stat_adjust 0 = 20; // Magery cr_amount_stat_adjust 1 = 30; // Mage Spells
  24. Look at the "advanced" trick for changing the default creatures. If you want to fix vampires so they don't summon themselves in your scenario, for instance, you can use this code (assuming that you place it earlier in the data script than when you define creature 239 for your scen, if you use this creature): Code: begindefinecreature 239; import = 87;begindefinecreature 87; // Vampire cr_summon_class = -1; This changes vampires so that they cannot be summoned. Same concept applies to changing any of the other default creatures.
