  1. It will grow on you. I miss the fact that it changed in later titles. What will really annoy you is the levelup sound in G5.

    Spiderweb future

Perhaps the first two times I said it didn't frame my position very well. No doubt the third will cast aside any doubt. I hope that a future game from Spiderweb has some sort of conflicting 'subtle' forces at work where one cannot be sure exactly what the end goal is. The early Wanderer quests are a good example. You don't know who he is, he asks a simple favour and Ryozo seems like a cold, rude potential traitor. It is conceivable that you are actually doing a good pro-pact thing. Of course in typical Spiderweb fashion this goes out the window very quickly and everything becomes very obvious, very cut and dry. These are the pro-pact choices and doing this will mark you that way and over here we have the anti-pact choices, very obvious, very cut and dry. Make no mistake, I enjoy Spiderweb games immensely but this is a forum for conversation and debate and my hope is that they will continue to grow and evolve and this is one possible direction that would leave me feeling satisfied.

    Spiderweb future

I don't know. The later geneforge games are very obvious about their 'sides'. It is obvious what they want, what they are going for and what is likely to happen. There was never a point where I felt like I was doing the wishes and bidding of Sect A while actually helping the grand designs of Sect B. As an example, in Avadon the first quest the wanderer gives you is to find proof of what Ryozo wanted from Zetheron. My understanding is that he wanted the dragon to check the Tawon Empire to avoid a war. But the player is not aware of this until later. The wanderer comes across as neutral when he is clearly anti-pact. That is the situation I hope for.
  4. Thanks for elaborating. I am a student paramedic so much of what you have said can be applied to my situation. We are often faced with choices like that. Especially in regards to moving someone vs not moving them if there is a mechanism for spinal injury, etc. Not to mention the host of drugs that are by their very nature required to be given in uncontrolled situations with incomplete information. ie. 'Oh, you are allergic to medication x, that would have been good to know if you were conscious or if your partner had taken the time to let us know.' etc.

    Spiderweb future

I would love a game where your actions do not have the consequences you envision. I would love to spend time doing/fighting for some belief only to have it revealed that I was wrong all along. It feels too easy to pick a side and stick with that rather than the real world moral ambiguity where you need to consider if what you are doing is actually getting the desired result or not. No idea how this can be made into a game though or if it would even work. But I feel they almost pulled it off with the early Wanderer quests in Avadon...until he became a little too obvious.
  6. I take it Utilitarianism also describes when someone intends to do something helpful but then buggers things up? "I just wanted to help!" being a good example.

    Spiderweb future

Good. I was always a little put off by the promised depth in Avadon and then the lack of presence in the story. So many countries, so little time. I look forward to what comes next. Hopefully it will be something that I can find myself gravitating to. Hopefully something more technological and less cliche magical. If I'd started my Spiderweb experience with Avadon he'd have only sold one game (or possibly none since the demo's exist and I wasn't impressed with the start).
  8. Do the later games work the same? I feel that Jeff strayed a little from this style in the later Geneforge games so that actual fighting is required a bit more. Still, this was an incredible achievement. I didn't think it was possible to go 100% pacifist.
  9. I honestly have no idea where that voice came from. Sometimes these things just happen and it is best to not question them.
  10. . Ghaldring appears to have made a mis-step. His death is inevitable now. I am no one's plaything.
  11. is out. I actually do find myself sympathising with some of the rebels here. I like Mekkhen, and Greta isn't too bad. I may join them, pretty much the only thing that would turn me off now would be a deeply disrespectful move by the leader. Unlikely to happen. I mean it would pretty much have to be an attempt on my life or some such.
  12. Sigh, no points for my very blunt anatomical match-ups....I'll just hand in my mensa card now. Fun game though, and you clearly do this regularly.
  13. I'm inclined to put: 355: Dam Canals - An unhappy beginning Simply for the fact that a Canal dam is the thing they put on your mouth before a root canal. I tell you what, that is an unhappy beginning that only gets worse
  14. 336. Immovable lump of heart - Beats fall apart. As in, a dead heart not moving, not beating.
  15. Despite reading through the whole thread I'm still stuck not knowing what the hell a PDN is? Clearly it has something to do with the wacky screen names you have had the past few weeks. Beyond that it eludes me. EDIT: Also, which ones are left? I'm late to the party and I know at least some on the remaining list seem to have been answered. I can't be bothered figuring out which ones remain.
  16. And has been scheduled for release. And if you pronounce scheduled in any way other than 'shed-yul-d' then the Queen of England, your rightful monarch, is probably very disappointed in you.
  17. is the start of a massive session. I recorded 12 videos today due to the public holiday in Australia. Enjoy the sound of my voice when I am still sounding fresh and optimistic. The eagle eyed among you may notice my nice new endcard that pops up right at the end of the video. Feedback welcome.
  18. Sterilised cotton swabs which were then smeared over the agar. The most simple method really. I required many different samples and used the most readily available method given that I was working at home in a non-controlled environment. Making the agar and trying to keep that sterile was actually the hardest part. Although I'm helped by the low temperatures where I live. I think my biggest mistake was the homemade sterile saline mixture I used to moisten the swabs was slightly too salty and killed off large portions of the bacteria I tried to transfer. (Either that or my house is surprisingly clean of bacteria.)
  19. Poor lighting unfortunately but the cat swab has the biggest colonies of any swab. Only a few of the though which I assume means the cat is relatively clean. (at least clean of things that grow on agar) Also, may I ask what you mean by "pour or spread plating"? I'm not familiar with the phrase exactly.
  20. If I may offer my opinion on the matter, I would advise against 'leading a fight for widespread reforms' if at all possible. It is unlikely to be pleasant, unlikely to get you what you want and unlikely to be the best option if my experience in these matters is anything to go on.
  21. I'm obviously the best shaper researcher here owing to my near perfection of a fungal bath/spawner.
  22. No time to record mid week as it is coming into election time in Australia and this means my work is going into overdrive. My expected midweek chance has been eaten up. In the meantime I have a little midweek special: photo's of parts of my 'geneforge' as alhoon likes to say. Enjoy the rather bland photos of sexy bacteria. Bonus points if you can identify them. 23. Interesting. Is each 'political' path viable via this route or are you essentially limited to particular options? Clearly the thing with the Creator can go both ways but in the end is it feasible to kill the final bosses from either perspective? I'm curious to see how this goes.
  24. I'm not aware what you are referring to. I rewatched the episode but can't see anything particularly prophetic in it, unless you refer to the poison in the wine. That's more the experience of spiderweb software games rather than any concrete knowledge though. Jeff normally has some sort of helper alternatives for players who don't invest as heavily into combat orientated stuff. But rewatching has made think about Alwan more. I think that is the faction I am currently drifting towards. Trakovites look good but they have someone I deeply disrespect as their leader which turns me off. Rebels frustrate me and Astoria strikes me as too close to the awakened from earlier games (ie. idealistic and naive). Despite that, you've mentioned there are other factions. Not sure what I will meet just yet so I am holding out for something to sway my jaded, war-weary heart.
