  1. I have been playing the trombone for I guess 10 years. 8 of those were spent taking lessons. After that I stopped feeling the need and I must say that overall my interest in it has been waning. I have been playing in orchestras for the better part of those 10 years. Currently I'm part of a student orchestra from Delft (which means I have to travel to and from another city on mondays for rehearsals. Plus I dislike Delft). Currently we're performing Carmen together with various choirs, putting up an entire show with acting etc; so its a proper opera performance. It's all exciting and nice, but after 5 performances it does become pretty much a routine, which is a pity. After this we should start with Stravinsky's Petrushka though. Looking forward to that! For the rest I like composing music (for full orchestra) now and then, though I haven't had time nor inspiration to produce anything. And I'm in a punk-ska band, which is quite awesome even if I haven't had any time lately to rehearse together with them... As for my taste in music, I listen to a wide variety of music, though lately it has been concentrated on gamemusic and soundtracks, with classical music and bits Hurts and Muse coming through now and then too. It's ncie to see so many people here playing an instrument, even if it was for a short while. I guess we could start our own orchestra
  2. Nice! Thanks for posting, I might get it :-)
  3. I'd say anything that Bioware makes. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a great game. They are also the creators of the Mass Effect trilogy, which truly has been the only game in history to make me care so much about my companions/teammates. I'd say the only thing that doesn't work is the actual ending scene, but don't get me started on that. I can fill page after page with my analysis on why that has gone wrong. A more recent Bioware title that is unlike Mass Effect cand goes back to the way KOTOR used to work, is Dragon Age: Origins. I'm playing that right now and find it tremendous fun! Finally, I can recommend the Elder Scrolls series of RPGs by Bethesda. I have only played the two most recent ones, being Oblivion and Skyrim (playing the latter for the first time right now). They are both very enjoyable, but I have to say that the attraction to these games comes from the enormous, dynamic world that you can explore, while Dragon Age: Origins' attraction comes from the really great story, the great writing and the very good voice acting/personalisation of your companions. Also from Bethesda is Fallout. I found fallout 3 fun, but it got boring because the story really didn't interest me all that much. For that reason, I found Fallout: New Vegas a lot more satisfying because the story revolves around the fate for the Mojave, "New" Las Vegas, and everybody living inside of it, versus a more personal story in Fallout 3. But, that's just my preference. I can heartily recommend all these mentioned games, although I can assure you there are many more I haven't played yet. As Alorael mentioned, there is The Witcher too. I haven't played The Witcher myself yet, but I do intend to play it at some point. Apparently it's very good.

  5. I hope you like it, and that the scenario works. Last time I went through it, I found that there was a problem which pretty much made the last level unplayable. I'm not sure right now if the correct version is on my website or not. I think the website version was probably the "good" version, and the one on my hard disk the "bad" one. But, feel free to try. if things get awfully weird and slow in the last level, you'll know it's the "bad" version.
  6. I love video game music. I actually listen to video game music all the time. Ever since completing the Mass Effect trilogy I've been almost constantly listening to the soundtracks of those games. What I always found so beautiful in that music is that I can picture the scenes; can see what's happening, although I love the most dramatic moments the most. I'm afraid that SW games are simply not the games that can make use of that very well, for the music in other games often accompany dramatic moments in cutscenes. While SW games do have cutscenes, they are not the dramatic cutscenes we have seen in Mass Effect. For that you really need a different kind of engine and approach. Other gamemusic I love is the soundtrack of Deus Ex Human Revolution, the Assassin's Creed series and Halo series, to name a few, but there are lots more I listen to. I used to listen to the music of Avernum, geneforge and Exile too. It's actually via Exile 1 that I got to know the "small fuga" of Bach BWV578. I love that piece to this day.
  7. We haven't always seen eye to eye on the topic of Sumerian grammar, but nonetheless, I'm sad to see you go. I understand your motives, and it was for the same reasons that I eventually drifted away. Still, I returned (up to some degree, anyway), which gives me hope that we'll see you here in general still for various occasions. For now, I bid you farewell, but I won't say goodbye; I'll say so long.
  8. I was scared out of my wits with that game. A friend of mine played it while I was sitting next to him, solving all the puzzles. I'm really bad at playing these dark kind of games, though... I get scared very easily. I was scared also in the Ravenholm part of Half Life 2, not to mention games like FEAR, and even Doom 3 I found way to intense. While Doom 3 really isn't very scray, I find it a very frantic, in-your-face kind of game.
  9. Nikki: I will Harehunter: Thanks for the welcome back. I indeed don't think we ever met before, so I'm glad to have met you still! And oh, how time flies. I have been working on HIM3 pretty slowly, because there are all kinds of things that hamper progress, like a vacation to Budapest. The most recent thing I have been doing is turning my written-down-plotline into a diagram. This is necessary to keep the complex sequence of choices the player can make coherent; make sure I don't forget anything. I will be trying to give the playuer choices that genuinely affect the story and its outcome. This will be time consuming and fifficult to get right, but I will nevertheless try.
  10. Thanks In other news, I have actually started coding again. I'm surprised by the fact that I still sort of know how it works. Well, no time to loose. let us finish a scenario!
  11. This should be mighty useful. Thanks a million! EDIT: It works pretty well. Found all missing semicolons. I owe you a huge thanks!
  12. Thanks guys, nice to see you are all still around! Oh and Kel, Slarty, how about starting one such grammar topic again?
  13. http://www.isidewith.com/results/34258136 Can't say I'm surprised, not at all even. But, remember, I'm Dutch. There are things in this quiz that I know hardly anything about (such as the patriot act) and as such I can only answer these questions as an outsider. My result is as as subjective as you could possibly get. That said, I have always known I'm a green democrat with a strong support for science.
  14. Thanks for the kind reply guys! BMA: Yup, although I have no idea how you managed to remember that. Sooo long ago... Nikki: Glad you like the prospect of me coming back to haunt your dreams :-P Ishad Nha: I noticed there are actually several versions available. I think I downloaded the latest Niemand version, and it certianly looks different from what I'm used to. Homage: Oh my god... Ponies... Faaintly-familiar eh? I hope you only heard good things ;-)
  15. Hello all, I realize it's been a few years sicne I stopped coming here. I dropped BoA, m,y scenerios, practically everything related to it, and plunged full force into Flight Simulator. I still do that pretty often, besides working, stuyding and whatnot. But, recently I was reminded of BoA again, and yesterday night I reinstalled BoA and the various scenario creation tools. To my relief and somewhat surprise, all the tools still work on OS 10.7, somethign I had never deemed possible with all the changes Apple made to Mac OS X. Then I had a heart attack. I had wiped my laptop's drive and reinstalled OS 10.7 afresh, not realizing that apparently my most up-to-date versions of my scenarios were on that computer. Fortunately, I found them somewhat later on a USB stick that was stuck all the way at the back of one of my least used drawers. And so, I can now announce: Work on HIM: Dual Perceptions will continue! And with some luck, it might even get finished! It's nice being back, and I see there are still lots of familiar faces around here. I hope you have all been doing well, and I look forward to productive scenario-creation times and the general kind of chat I remember from these boards.
  16. Oh god, I feel so embarrased now. Niemand, thanks very much! I changed 15 to 14, and it works now. It's not as fluid as I had hoped (the animation), so I'll be tweaking that, but anyway, it all works now. What's puzzlign me, is that a while back BoA didn't crash because of this. I'm wondering of OS 10.5.6 might have something to do with it. I don't really remember, but it might well be that I had 10.5.5 last time I tested HIM3. Anyway, thanks again, you saved me.
  17. So, niemand, I'll send you the scnerio + the error report. I do hope you don't get the error. If you don't, I'll send it to you, kelandon. Thanks in advance for the help!
  18. Thanks for the quick responses, Niemand: What bit in particualr do you want? I really don't quite know what's in the report. May I send you the entire report, so you can see for yourself? Laz: I can send it to you, or both of you if you wish, so you can see. I tried reinstalling the program (not a clean one, I admit, but I copied in new BoA files, and the program itself, leaving the scenario folder intact) EDIT: Well, after a short test of Nikki, it appears to be working okay on Windows. So either this is a Mac bug or just my copy.
  19. I do hope this is not the formal end of HIM3, but here goes: After taking a long break of HIM3, I decided to start looking at it again. I entered the scenario to test a creatrue script I'd written some time ago. I remember everythign workign all right previously, but now weird things happen in the second town: there is this passage where the party hits a special node, then a quick anination plays, and the party is transferred to a new town. Here, it all continues in the start state, where a dialog box is shown, and another animation is played. Previously, this worked fine. Now, BoA crashes on me right after I click the "OK" of the text box. I have the entire error report, but since it's very long, here's a small piece: Code: Process: Blades of Avernum Release [978]Path: /Applications/Avernum series/Blades of Avernum/Blades of Avernum v1.2.1.app/Contents/MacOS/Blades of Avernum ReleaseIdentifier: com.SpiderwebSoftware.Blades of Avernum (Univ)Version: Blades of Avernum v1.1 (1.2.1)Code Type: X86 (Native)Parent Process: launchd [102]Date/Time: 2009-04-07 23:19:24.884 +0200OS Version: Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G55)Report Version: 6Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000014f5d000Crashed Thread: 0 Oh yes, I'm a Mac, running 10.5.6. I really hope anybody can help. In the meantime, I'll see if I have an older version of HIM3, maybe there's a difference... EDIT: older version/different party doesn't seem to help.
  20. Ishad, I think Eph's question probably was to the Pig Catapult. That said, Tyran does not always has the most recent versions, and if I were you, I'd rely more on Jewels' site than Tyran's.
  21. Hey Nik, I have an idea for a scenario that you could make: take five of your unfinished scenarios, and put them all in one scenario file. Now try to make that scenario so, that it actually is a coherent story instead of a rambling mess.
  22. Town to town travel really is the easiest thing, I think, since it's been done so often already in current scenarios. And the travelling stuff could be done by presenting the player with a list of covered and cleared areas and the player can then select where he wants to go.
  23. Yeah, that's what I did in HIM:TWD. Make a cavetown, put everything in there, give it night sounds, and you're done.
  24. Yeah, figured that out just now, when I looked where he lived. Which means he didn't write a review and is entirely welcome to do so still.
  25. Yes, I formally announced HIM: Dual Perceptions, just a minute ago on my website. I put up a page there with all information and two screenshots you guys might like. Here is a direct link: HIM: Dual Perceptions
