Fledgling Fyora chimara
I recently started playing A4 (Mac universal version). No problems until I got to Hinkle--the old guy north of Cotra with the basement full of chitrachs. The Mindspinner Chitrach (sp? for obvious reasons I never get to look at it for long) in that fight shows up as a little rectangle of static rather than its actual graphic; it can hit me, but when I interact with it the game crashes. The obvious first thing to try is reinstalling the game, but before I fuss around with that, and then re-registering, has anyone had this problem before? Or is it totally idiosyncratic? I'm using a pretty new Intel Macbook, btw.
Garrulous Glaahk Tyran
The exact same thing happened to me. I haven't gotten around to reinstalling to see if that solves the problem yet either.
Understated Ur-Drakon Nioca
I've had that happen. However, it was because I was playing around with Avernum's data scripts. I doubt that you've been doing that, so I don't really know what it is. My only guess is that one of the data scripts are off. EDIT: The half complete post was courtesy of Sydney the cat. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Try installing a new copy of the game in a different folder. The preference file will be the same so you don't need to re-register. Then copy the saved game over from the old folder to the new one (count the first saved game as 0 and go down the first column to 9 and the second column starts as 10 if you aren't sure which file it is). It may be a corrupted data file and this might fix the problem.
Fledgling Fyora chimara
Randomizer, I just tried your suggestion (downloaded a new copy and moved the save file over), and the game crashd in the same spot. At least, I was in the same tunnel, at the same point in the fight--I didn't even have time to notice the guilty monster spawning in before the program quit. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Then it sounds like the corruption occurred in the downloaded program before you got it. Sorry, but this sounds like a problem for Jeff unless someone else has an idea. The data file for the monster shouldn't have got altered when he made the Intel based version. Fledgling Fyora CurtisER
n the Hinkle's Cellar after successfully killed all the Chitrash'es, Avernum crashes and a bug report is sent to Apple. I've tried this three times and each time it crashes so this leads me thinking there is a bug in Hinkle's Cellar. Please advise if you have patch for this problem or not. Thanks! Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
You should probably email Spiderweb Software (spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com) about this if you haven't already. Jeff can take a while to get around to reading the forums.
