Ineffable Wingbolt Superba
When you reach Avadon fortress the first time direct to Protus' office, just in front of it across the corridor there is a guard and a closet. While you get there the guard goes away, open the closet and quickly take the steel bracers in it. Quickly because he's coming back soon and will never leave his place again for the rest of the game. I checked about this. Well it's not even a trick but it can help you early in the game. Steel bracers at this point are quite useful. Garrulous Glaahk Mistah Q
Are they marked "NY" (Not Yours)? Doesn't matter if nobody sees you get it. But sometimes I like to play through where I don't "steal" anything at all. Other times I'm as sticky-fingered as they come lol
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
There are several places that if you time it right you can loot useful NY items. Some in the dungeon, Jeff altered the wandering NPC routes so you can't take them easily.
Garrulous Glaahk Mistah Q
I think stealing was more fun in Avernum, where a whole town or even a whole religion would get pissed at you.
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba
@ Mistah Q, yes, the bracers are marked NY. The post was not intended to be about stealing, however, it is just a odd character behaviour I noticed and incidentally it became useful. Coming to stealing as an in game sport practice i.e. it was fun to steal runestones in lower Castel Vebeaux (Avadon I) because it was a difficult thing to do, with the assistant smith patrolling the place. In Spiderweb games there are several other good stealing actions to perform, so to say.
Garrulous Glaahk Mistah Q
For sure, the little wall switches are not the only hidden little treasures. Maybe there should be a little thread dedicated to items like this, that you can only acquire at a very specific time window. Well there's always the synergizer lists but those things are huge lol Dear Potato
Garrulous Glaahk Dear Potato
Well, I completely approve a thread about stealing. I consider myself a pretty deplorable thief in Spiderweb games. Sometimes I read posts and comments like this one and I wonder what other kinds of items could be "covertly grabbed" that can be really useful. That said, a very unlikely but awesome thing to happen, is a Shadowalker with true "stealth" skills -cloak and such.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
in 1st fortress player visits there are few objects to steal which require timing since guards move bit quickly around. Mistah Q
Understated Ur-Drakon Callie
Wow, I played through the game forgoing the opportunity for so much loot. Shame on myself!
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
looting around bases etc isn't that needed due rewards and loot from battles but its still fun.
