  1. They regenerate whenever they don't have a target for their attacks, no one actually needs to be in melee range. My strategy was to place the tankiest tank just within the range of just one pylon's attack and have the rest of the party, out of the pylon's range, pelt the pylon with arrows and the appropriate spells.
  2. I had this problem in Geneforge 4 the first time I played. Then I learned the hard way that the most important items you want to save should be put in containers. That way, they don't disappear.
  3. Congratulations on finishing the series and thank you, I greatly enjoyed your Let's Plays! I feel a bit sorry for not commenting as often as I used to, but sometimes life gets in the way. As for how my games went, I've finished all Geneforges more than once, making different choices each time. I think that this is the best part of Geneforge, the replayability. The fact that you can play a character with similar views as yourself and then replay the game playing as somenone with totally different morals, for a different outcome! I haven't played Nethergate Resurrection so I will probably skip that Let's Play for now, don't want the game spoiled. But good luck to you!
  4. If you had more choices then maybe more people would answer the poll...
  5. Geneforge 5 is tied with Geneforge 1 for my favourite Geneforge game. I'm very curious to see what faction you will choose and how it will play out...
  6. Thanks for an entertaining Let's play! My first playthrough of Geneforge 4 was as a servile. Like you I messed up the build, however unlike you I was playing without creations and I didn't manage my reputation well enough so I locked myself out of all the Shaper quests. This lead to me pulling my hair and banging my head against the wall (e.g. being forced to fight through the Barrier Zone, etc). In the end though, I did choose to destroy the Unbound.
  7. Spectral Rapier is the reward for Guardian Koerner's second quest. The Western Sentinel (Battle Beta) in the Pit of the Titan drops a Rod of Defenses upon death.
  8. I just hope that Geneforge keeps that Geneforge feeling and doesn't become too similar to Avadon/Avernum. 1. More gameplay balance, i.e. boost melee a bit. In the Geneforge games magic and shaping had abilities that couldn't be raised with skillpoints, only with training, canisters and quest rewards. I would like too see similar abilities for melee and missile combat. If the remakes are using the skill-tree system I see no reason not to bring back Anatomy as a skill. 2 Make keeping creations alive for a long time a more viable option. If you create a fyora and keep it alive long enough for it to gain 10 levels, give it something special, e.g. let it evolve into a stronger creation (Warped Fyora maybe?). If you keep it through the game, it could evolve at regular intervals. Or instead of evolving, the fyora could get an upgrade to its attack, or maybe get a new ability...
  9. I played a servile on my first run of GF4. I botched the build, spent way to many points in skills I ended up never using. But I managed to finish the game in the end.
  10. Yes... It does seem that the ending you got was a bit weird. I didn't think it was possible to finish the game like that... Anyway, thanks for an entertaining Let's Play! I'm following your GF4 Let's Play right now...
  11. I'm still watching your Let's Play, however I've been quite busy IRL and haven't had time to watch every episode. But I caught up tonight. I'm still enjoying your different voices, keep it up!
  12. I finished the game as a solo Missile Guardian. It was on Normal difficulty and I joined the Rebels. Nuff said... Geneforge 3 is generally seen as the weakest entry in the series. This might be why there is a lack of comments. IMHO it is a good game, but it sadly lacks lots of things that made its predecessors and successors great.
  13. Not really true, at least not for Geneforge 2 and 3. In 2 you are quite attached to Shanti and in 3 you have Alwan, Greta and the rest of the school that you care about. Or at least that is what the game assumes.
  14. You do have a point about the Shapers "putting themselves on a pedestal". The reasoning for this is that the Shapers feel that if they don't command respect and fear, outsiders will become bold and start stealing Shaper secrets. Maybe if the Shapers treated outsiders a little bit better then maybe they could start trusting eachother better? Anyway, IMHO, Litalia is responsible for the death of several innocent gatherers, to me that makes her almost as bad as the Shapers. But her strategy is sound actually: do a "false flag" attack, blame the Shapers, sow dissent and then save the day, gaining allies against the Shapers in the process.
  15. Intereresting theory about the spawners. It is definitely plausible. What I'm wondering about is what the function of those gems and crystals are. For the pylons I guess the gems would be some kind of magical battery for the pylon's spells. But what function do they fill for the spawner? Or are they perhaps some kind of byproduct of the Shaping process?
  16. Interesting to note that Randara did more damage in melee than with fire in the last few vids... it must have reached quite a high level! Thanks once again for a good Lets Play!
  17. I played as a solo Guardian through most of Geneforge 1... except South Bridge. I was too weak at that time and was forced to make a few "disposable fyoras" to help me with the turrets.
  18. I overstepped my bounds in my last post and I'm sorry about that. It's just that I've been in your position myself - repeatedly facing battles that feels like banging your head against the wall (not in Geneforge 2 but in part 3 & part 4). Congratulations to finishing Geneforge 2 and thanks for a entertaining Let's Play!
  19. Serviles in GF1, 2 & 3 have red skin and a big nose. In part 4 & 5 they have yellow skin and a "trunk", sort of like an elephant. With that said, I believe that Sage Clois is right, serviles are the descendants of the original inhabitants of Sucia Island, the people who lost the battle against the primal Shapers. Heustess would be the only surviving "proto Servile". The Shapers has since modified the serviles so that they would pose less of a threat but still be useful in different areas (administration, agriculture, mining, tinkering, hazardous materials, etc). Undead are a staple of fantasy fiction, I guess that is why they are included. Just like demons from the infernal realms are included in some of the Geneforge games. Honestly, both undead and demons are things I could do without in Geneforge, I feel those phenomena somehow diminishes the greatness of Shaping.
  20. IIRC Taker Toll Road is cleared by As for frustrating combat, I have some advice: 1. When you use buffs (pods/spores) I see that you sometimes use them in realtime. That causes them to run out faster. It is better if you enter combat mode first (press F) before using them. That way, they last longer. 2. Put lots of skillpoints in Melee Weapons, and the leftovers in Quick Action. This increases Emile's damage output. Ok, this one was a bit stating the obvious... 3. As for creations, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Strength dictates both To Hit and Damage, so increase that primarily when you evolve your creations. As for your interesting moral pondering about Taker philosphy vs. Awakened philosophy, after you see a bit more of the Taker lands you'll see that maybe they're not so much about equality as you think. Or at least, less about equality than Dryss is. Later on, in the sequels we'll see which philosophy holds more merit, but I guess you know this already.
  21. I always assumed that "Scree storage" was a typo and they meant "Secure storage". But indeed, Valtio Consil's Agent walking on water is a huge bug. I have to check this out later...
  22. The Servile in Ellhrah's Tomb turns hostile because of
  23. Highest Mechanics is Difficult to reach early in the game, even if you have the money needed. It is possible though, if you're fast and walk through the zone in combat mode. Then again, getting through the Ancient Crypt is very difficult. The other two teachers are also quite difficult to reach (Winding Road as mentioned and the Luck teacher in Patrol Bridge).
  24. There are some other crafting as well: Bernard South Rising Road will make a Shaped Breastplate if you bring him 10 Mined Crystals, a Steel Breastplate and Demon's Bile. Maynard in Triola will make a Shaped Blade if you bring him an Emerald, a Steel Sword and Mandrake Tincture. Learned Versa in Rising North Gate will make a Restoration Pod/Spores from a Healing Pod/Spores, a Swamp Spores and an Amphora. Symon in Zhass-Uss Outskirts will make wands from an ingredient (Mandrake Tincture, Demon's Bile, Wiry Moss or Saltweed), a stick and 10 Mined Crystals. Note that AFAIK there are only 12 Swamp Spores and you need one of them for a quest. Edit: Ooops, her name is Symon. Also, Maynard will only make one Shaped Blade, whereas the others can be repeated as long as you have the ingredients. Edit 2: There are 15 Swamp Spores, 3 are found in Beneri-Uss Entry IIRC.
  25. The best rewards, which in my opinion are stat increases, are all available at Leadership 5 IIRC.
