  1. Dahak, okay that makes sense. I must have gotten into the battle in the hallway before equiping the infiltrator gear. (I have 10 leadership with no items). I tried to disable those mines really carefully and stand back from the trigger. They are so close to the triggers. Each time the wingy devil appeared. When I was able to get away, I think I wasn't as far into the room and could make my escape.
  2. Warmaster, the gazers in East Shadow Road decimated most of my party in about three rounds. No way. Ditto for those winged monsters and rots at this point. Okay, I guess it's time to try and sneak past that rot for the bauble. Unfortunately I have to sneak around the unbound, too. lol
  3. I didn't have any stealth material at the time to sneak past the rot. I'd rather do that than get my creations after them. I do have a vlish and a cryoa, but they haven't fared all that well with rots. Is stealth that good that you can get away with it? I did get the middle shadow road robe. I already had a necklace pass from breaking into the servile shed in the south. That level was okay for me. No fighting needed. Well, the first time I blundered in, I got into a nasty fight with some guards, but I reloaded and waited for them to leave the hallway, then snuck down and did some sabotage. (The necklace pass doesn't work in the hallway until you go into the center first, I found out. ) The northeast corner. Ugh. First time, the winged creature appeared and we tried to run. It followed. Bye bye. The second time, it appeared, and we ran for the exit (wearing my infiltrator outfit) and it didn't follow. We left the building. When we returned it was gone. (??) I didn't really need to go there since I had the pass, but got a few items to sell. Thanks for the tip.
  4. The diminished speed spell is very disappointing to me. I'm only at level 27 and I'm finding that it's more difficult than the other Geneforge games. Speed has a lot to do with it. You can't effectively hit and run or even just run away from a stronger opponent. I'm finding there are many rogues tougher than my PC and creations and I'm wondering how long I'll be able to continue playing. I just finished area 28. Couldn't even touch the rot et. al. in the center. Ditto for the drayk in West Shadow Road. Regeneration is a cool spell but it doesn't seem to take effect in time to help. Without the loyalist soldiers in North Citadel Pass, forget taking on an unbound. I couldn't get the tinker's bauble in Northeast Fen because of the rot. While some spells are really cool and fun to play with, I'm just wondering if the nerfing of some really good spells like speed don't really make it extremely difficult for mediocre players like myself. Okay, I did turn down the level to easy. No apparent difference that I could tell. Having to put nearly half my skill points into mech/ldrshp by level 25 and waiting for the money for skills training, I guess my character is pretty weak. I'm wondering if I can expect anything different as I level up from this point. I have the infiltrators shield, which puts my mech at 14 and leadership at 11. I'm wondering if I can start putting skill points elsewhere. ETA: Should I have started a new thread on this? Don't want to hijack.
  5. Is there any use for gold necklaces in the game? I have a pile of them.
  6. These packs are in groups of five usually, with the vlish being the one you need to get first, as this is a healing vlish and will heal the roamers you damage. After every group I killed, I checked my essence. If it was low, I went back to town to restore. I'm always running back to town when I can to save on pods. I use pods when I'm in a long battle or can't get out of a place (testing area, et al.) Ignoring pods and spores is a big mistake. They work better than ever now. Also as a weapon, use those blue crystals. They rob several of the enemies of major hp. I love the crystals in G5. They saved me a number of times.
  7. Thanks for telling me that, DV. I'm think I'm going to go back to the save before the kill and do that differently.
  8. How high does leadership need to be to get Shresss to leave the Nodye pass tunnel? I had 10 and the script said she was all scared by my PC, but then I kept asking her to leave and she kept saying "soon." I killed her and her minions only to find out that I couldn't get out of the tunnel and had to go back the way I came. I'm like, dang, I have to go through all that again to get back? If I had higher leadership, would she have (1) gone or (2) been forced to unblock the tunnel?
  9. Got it. Thanks. She's as big as life. Duh.
  10. Uber, I know nothing. I look at all postings here to find out. So I shouldn't look at a post I know nothing about? That makes no sense. I need guidance when I play and I can find it here. So I look at posts. If your reg is really delayed, like several days, please e-mail Spiderweb. They are working very hard, so please be patient. My reg came in one day, but that might have been a timing issue. If it hadn't come, I'd have waited a few days because I know that extraneous e-mail requests delay them, too.
  11. I didn't want to make a new thread for every question, so I'm hoping it's okay to post quest questions here. Mera: The hint book says I will get a "noxious powders" quest, but nobody I talk to will give me that quest. Is that something that will come after I fulfill a first quest for somebody? Thanks.
  12. Yeah, Thuryl, it was fun because by then you're having to work really hard for that kind of exp.

I think I may have poisoned my own creations with acid. It was in the battle with the presence/mind, so it was hard to tell.
  14. Oh, sorry about that. Okay, well that explains it. I never finished G4 because too many life events happened. It was hard to go back to it and remember where I was in the game. I didn't know the rules had changed then, so I was probably limiting my own game with what I did play. lol Also, I'm not a great player and I'm one of those people who really likes a walkthrough, and it wasn't done at that time. It takes a while for those to get done. Some of the best walkthroughs I have ever seen in games are done by the people here. Corker, you're neater than I was, with the barrels. My stuff was in piles everywhere.
  15. I was kidding, but I get ya. I accidently wound up killing the furious thahd AND the roamers in a later visit. I went back because I remembered I forgot to loot the cabinets in the thahd hallway and just blundered around. The thahd was okay, but the roamers nearly obliterated my party.
  16. It's just the one pylon in the northeast of FCE guarding the canister. Every other pylon is easily shut off. When I went to deactivate that one, I got a message that it's way too complicated/dangerous, or something like that. I did do a save and try it. Bye bye. Maybe I had 6 instead of 7 this time? I just boosted up my mechanics on the last few level ups and I have 10 now. No problem. Tell me that getting a wrack canister was worth it. Can't remember wrack in other games. ETA: Speaking of exploiting experience, I happened to wander back into Area 1, Pacification Fields, after clearing 8 or 9 areas, and it was loaded with low level rogues giving me really high experience for those worms that would die if you breathed on them. Like 35 exp, and I have the servile and two creations eating up part of my exp., too.
  17. In my opinion... I am really liking G5 so far. I just got my reg but I'm replaying with a new character, so I'm still not past demo. I like the character selection. I like the way you can pair the different strengths you're interested in and choose a PC that fits that, like magic/shaping and combat/magic, etc. More choices and very replayable. My favorite thing is the change in battle play, where you can have 1 AP and still attack. In previous games, you were stuck if the rogues decided to stand out of range and make you go after them. If you retreated, they always had more range than you. Dang that bites when your party gets toasted because it loses turns for moving and the bad guys just keep coming. Most games just don't have a story. I'd rather play a turn-based rpg that's interesting than a high-tech one that's all flash and no substance. That's why I really love the Geneforge series. For those who have beta tested or had the chance to play through once or twice, I would like to hear others' opinions about the endgame. Is it as satisfying as previous games in the series?
  18. Never mind about the locked doors. I finally figured that out. I'm puzzled by the dangerous pylons in the east core still. ??
  19. If by "kill the testers" you mean rid Terrestia of the strange servant mind there, I'm in. But they were super fast on my registration so I'm restarting. Thank you for the list of stat requirements! That is really helpful to know. I'm finding I'm spending most of my points in mechanics/leadership with not much left over to boost primary stats or shaping or magic. I'm playing as a Sorceress on normal. I'm a little surprised that she seems to be holding up better than my lifecrafter or infiltrator did in demo runthroughs. She takes a good beating.
  20. Foundary Core West: The doors opened for me when I did the demo twice with two different characters. I don't know how they opened. I was just blundering around. Now I cleared the areas via the hint book, so in different order, but I think I did the same things basically. But now the doors won't open. Also, maybe the same thing that opens all the controls for the doors in the West can turn off the dangerous pylon blocking the canister in Foundry Core East? That got turned off the first time. (Don't ask me how, because I don't know. ) Thanks.
  21. I do mind getting killed. So, really there are only 9 areas in the demo since you can't get past the front door of the repository? I keep seeing if there's an exit/entrance somewhere that I'm missing.
  22. I just finished the demo and the golem in charge wouldn't let me into the Foundry because I had no key. Is there a key somewhere I am missing? Thanks.
  23. I had trouble registering to the forum and signing on. I had some kind of old link to the "dead" message boards, tried to register, and received a confirmation e-mail linking to the dead forums... and couldn't sign onto the new one. So I started over with the new forums, got an e-mail link to the new ones, and I'm here. Kinda complicated, but I made it. It's nice. The forums are a great resource. Thanks for the games, Jeff.
  24. Are there penalties for spending skill points and/or using canisters and books when it comes to trainers? If I have already used two canisters of fyora, for example, can I still train in it twice? I'm just wondering if it's best to wait until later to use canisters or train with books. Also, how much does it affect game play to use the canisters in G5? I'm wondering how violent/unstable my character will become. :=)
