  1. I think there was a research facility in G2 in the awakened magic facilities that used micro scopes to look at what they called and i quote as best i can "scrolls that contain life" or something of that nature. They definitely knew what genes were, and the makers of the geneforge had to know this, as by my thinking they were changing those genes with magic, rather like splicing human insulin in bacteria to day. Of course humans aren't bacteria and shaping isn't insulin, but the idea remains similar. What I'm trying to say is that whomever it was that made the geneforge / invented the canisters had knowledge of genes, and how they worked. The only reason i think that they were altering them is the FORGE thing, and that when one uses canisters for the first time the text that appears is something along "I'm being altered!" The game might as well be called Genealter in my opinion, but that name, well, sucks.
  2. I think that they must somehow be more powerful in G5, for the mere fact that if they're going to be a conclusive ending they have to be. Or will Jeff make them an ending at all? All questions to be asked friends, all very interesting questions.
  3. It was never graphics that were important to me at all in SW games, its more the plotline to me. The redone combat system and redone plotline make A5 seem attractive if anything. Thats of course, coming from someone who dabbled in Avernum 4 and disliked it.
  4. I'm pretty sure it was KOTOR (knights of the old republic) which i was talking about before. It's alot like the Geneforge series, except it's star-wars. Choose a side, level up, typical RPG. They actually addressed the level up factor in the game and made that a dynamic part, something like how the main char devoured enemies' Force (kind of like essence or mana for those not SW geeks out there).
  5. Just noticing this but... Quote: I would also really love it if, while we're talking about how the player manages to play a decisive role in a world full of generals and heroes, somehow the reason for the PC's rapid ascent is finally given. -Student of Trinity I think i saw some mention of this in G1 as something completely not having to do with the geneforge but only the personality/person of the character him/herself. Or maybe that was KOTOR, but who really knows.
  6. All factions have failed my philosophy... I'll go back to G2 and play as a loner.
  7. Im going to have to say that Gazers are, indeed, my favorite (G3 being the game in question here). Gazers have a ridiculous ability to disable things that combined with mass energize is completely ridiculously destructive. I don't like how they're nerfed in G4.
  8. Has anyone addressed the fact that the game is called GENEforge? Gene is in the name of the game, along with forge. That probably means that the canisters, and the geneforge, (since they're alike) do something like, oh i don't know, forge your genes. This implies that they must be using base materials that are already there, like iron for a sword. IN this case it might be something like shaping genes already existed or something of that nature. The game isn't called GeneCreate.
  9. Slow against anything that doesn't have speed or something like mass rejuvenate (forget exactly the name agent skills are off) is far better then stun for the mere fact that it is a more potent form of stun, which automatically makes it better. It really depends whether we are talking about G3 or G4, as in G4 you can attack with 1 AP. Slow wouldn't be needed as much in G3.
  10. I always thought of trakovite as an in-between faction, someone who cant decide who they want to side with and don't like they fighting, so they take things into their own hands and make there be no sides. I really wonder how neutrality rots your soul... I don't see that there are massive numbers of devils coming out of Switzerland.
  11. Very true, but that doesn't defeat the fact that i played G3 twice and G2 only once. I felt like a second play through was too much, as i had already seen everything i wanted to. If you're looking for alot of factions there is always the first one and i agree, you should be able to scrounge the $50 to buy the trilogy. Do you already have G4 and is that why you're asking this? Though i do like the older ones the UI bugs me once i had played G4 and 3, also the fact that you need to up your strength to carry more things is a pain. Summary: If you dont have G4 get that, otherwise get the trilogy.
  12. The fact that there even is a trakovite ending means that it probably should take on some kind of more meaning in GF5. There never really seems to be a "ride the fence" faction, i think this could be Trakovism in GF5.
  13. Well, Geneforge 3 is definitely far better in my opinion, because 2 has all the roughness in the UI of 1, and none of the flair and added benefits (like getting greta or alwan) that 3 does. 3 is better in my opinio but I'm no quite sure which is longer... Geneforge 3 has more replay value because its better (of course) though.
