  1. My big dilemma came when my pole fighter (originally my tool-user/archer, but she morphed) had to decide between the Jade Halberd/Emerald Chestguard combo for sheer power and protection, or the Cryos Spear/Mercuric Plate combo for the extra turn in battle. I had already outfitted my battle priest with the Quicksilver Bulwark and Quicksilver Sandals, which gave him the ability to heal and attack in a single round, and he was quite happy with the Runed Plate rounding out his casting skills, so the sandals were not an option for my pole fighter (nor, obviously, was the shield). The choice came late enough in the game that it didn't matter terribly much, but I can see having to make a choice like that earlier in a future playthough. What would you guys have done?

I just realized that, after stealing the eggs from the friendly spiders, that they are going to be hostile to me from now on, but I forgot to talk to the spider who gave me the "mean shaman" quest. What is the reward for that quest? Is it worth replaying about an hour of game time to get? (I would have to clear Grindstone again, as well as kill the gazer nearby.)
  3. I gathered from a passing comment in another thread that there are working pylons in the northern area besides the one in Formello. Other that the broken one you find when you first row into the northern area, where can I find a nearby working pylon? I'm getting tired of rowing back and forth.
  4. I'm getting broken dialogue script errors whenever I try to talk to anyone in the Castle, which means I cannot complete my Levitt quest. Going back to the previous version.
  5. They certainly could be named the same as we named them if there was an option to import a saved file from a previous installment. If not, they would be named differently, of course.
  6. As I said, that would require me to fight the drake and his horde again, which I am not going to do. If I cannot solve the problem, then I will just leave this quest unfinished.
  7. So far, he has not healed himself, but I'll wait longer and try again. This should probably be fixed in the next update, no?
  8. I found another thread where someone has had the same problem. He has teleported twice, and is now in the lower circle with a sliver of health left, but he will not teleport again to his sanctum. The other thread had no solution. Any suggestions? My last archived save is from way before I killed the drake and his minions upstairs, so I'm not doing that all over again. It sounds like there is a broken script at work, here. There must be a way to fix this.
  9. I've been whacking away at this guy Hrickis for about half an hour now, and the last sliver of his health refuses to go away. Before I waste any more time on this jerk, can someone please tell me how to kill him?
  10. That's a good point, made even more curious by the fact that I was able to lead the sliths away from the gate and over to Fort Duvno long enough to get the soldiers outside into the fight. They were promtly slaughtered and the sliths went back to the gate. Weird.
  11. I'm a little confused as to why there are so many slith inside the Horned Gate. I was under the impression that the gate was there to keep the Slith out of Avernum, not the other way around. If the Slith are already past the gate, why the Stalemate? What gives?
  12. Yeah, I found him there. For some reason he seemed to blend in more this time. I feel silly, but thanks.
  13. I can't seem to finish this quest. Adelard is no longer in Fissure Post where he used to be. Any idea where he might have gone?
  14. I tried the scripts solution, but now I get a script error when I try to talk to the guard.
  15. I cleared this quest somehow without ever actually finding the Honeycomb Hideout. I found it much later while exploring the Honeycomb. I'm not really sure whether to leave the bandits alone, like they ask, or to try and clear them out. What do you guys think?
  16. I don't think forcibly moving the party was the way to go, but it wasn't obvious enough, to me anyway, that what I had to do was give up and retreat. It was easy enough to fight the demons that I didn't realize that there was no way to win; or at least, I didn't want to admit it. Forcing me to back off by making the situation seem a bit more dire might have worked. Perhaps if Nichol had retreated with me, I wouldn't have felt like I was abandoning him. He could still have turned back after I was through the gate so that I couldn't stop him from making the heroic sacrifice. Would that change have altered the dramatic tension? Probably, but I don't think by much. Anyway, I'm past it.
  17. Dang. I really hate scripted failures like that. I really feel like I should stay and fight, rather than let Nichol stay behind and die while Avernum is invaded. And no, I'm playing on hard, but my party is around level 13; so long as I keep the imps slowed so they don't get those double hits, and have enough summons to keep them occupied, I can take them out almost indefinitely, or as long as my energy potions last. I guess I've got to give up the fight, then. It still feels wrong, though. Perhaps Jeff could have found a way to force the issue so the player wouldn't feel like they have to voluntarily "fail." Oh, well. Great game so far.
  18. So, I'm at the Great Portal, and one of the crystals has exploded, and there are these demons coming out. The thing is, I've been hacking at these things for almost an hour now, and they keep coming. To make matters worse, I'm not even getting any experience from them, despite that fact that they are easily tough enough to kill me. I figured that was an oversight and I'd just use the editor to give all my characters a level and call it even. But before I can do that, I need for these guys to stop coming out of the portal. Is there something I'm supposed to do to make them stop, because I'm obviously not supposed to just walk out and let these things invade Avernum? What's up?
  19. Really? Now why would they have made that change? How unfortunate. What about secret doors? I've been going around running into walls for hours and haven't found a single one. Did Jeff take those out too?
  20. Can't seem to figure out where to go to learn potion making in Avernum 4. It used to be you could add it at character creation. Anyone got a clue for me?
