  1. This happens throughout the game. My advice for first-time players for entering a new area is to always seek out the job board first. I'm pretty sure all similar quests are given through them.
  2. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
  3. Two things come to mind: - You say you got the "from this point" message twice. Just to make sure, you got it from approaching the walls from both sides of the cave, right? (I.e. the north and south walls.) - When job board quests are completed, you only get an on-screen message of its completion, and can never say anything about it during actual dialog with the quest-giver. Are you sure you didn't just miss the 'quest completed' prompt? Is the quest still in your active quests list?
  4. (Ignore this chapter)I'm hunting for Gelmax the goblin in the Drake Pillars (again). After flushing him out of his first lair he fled (north?), but I can't find him anywhere. Spoilers please? EDIT: Nevermind, I found him. There seems to be some issue with the goblins spawning in the second spot. Also, on a completely non-related issue: is there any way to break magical locks without using the unlock doors spell?
  5. I already gave you a link in the tech support topic you posted your question in. But in order to be slightly more helpful: look in "Documents". And if they're not there... oh, I dunno... try searching for files called "items" everywhere. That might help. Or not.
  6. I downloaded Exile 1, Exile 3 and Nethergate (the original). The first two would not run, not even in compatibility mode, but Nethergate installed and started just fine. Based on that, games running the Nethergate/Avernum engine or newer will probably work on Vista x64. I guess it's possible to get the Exiles to run with some OS trickery, but I wouldn't know how.
  7. Quote: Vista Always has problems, no matter what No it doesn't.
  8. 64-bit Vista here. No problems, at least with the newer games. I've understood that Nethergate (the original) and earlier games won't work.
  9. Try creating the folders for the scenarios yourself. For example, with A Visit to the Madhouse, I have the scenario in "Blades of Avernum\Blades of Avernum Scenarios\A Visit to the Madhouse(Win)", and it works fine. All BoA scenarios are supposed to be in their separate folders in the "Blades of Avernum Scenarios" folder, and after checking the Madhouse zip file in Tyranicus's database, at least that archive seemed to be missing the actual scenario folder.
  10. Try Rats Aplenty. It's the highest ranked scenario not made by TM or Kelandon, and is intended for levels 1-7 (I think).
  11. Not-Nija: You're in no position to give mods orders. Zebediah: Please avoid starting a new topic for everything you have to say. This could just as well have been posted in the poll thread in the Avernum trilogy forum.
  12. They work fine for me, and I'm running 64-bit Vista. Dumb question: Are you sure you don't have "no sounds" checked in the preferences?
  13. Well, I installed A4 just to check the mysterious save game problem. I'm a Vista x64 user, and installed the game in the default folder. After starting the game, I saved the game in the first available slot, and quit. After some searching, the saved game was found in "c:\program files (x86)\avernum 4\data\save0\", so the obvious folder. Since your folders were empty, the only guess I have is that you've installed the game twice. Are you running the game from the start menu, and if so, have you verified that it is in fact running the game from the directory that has the empty save folders? Like I said, everything worked fine with me, so if the above doesn't help, then I'm all out of ideas.
  14. Try searching for the files: "Start->Search->For Files or Folders...", and then type the exact name of one saved game, .sav extension included. I think Jeff's latest games usually save the games in My Documents, but I guess they could have been accidentally misplaced somewhere else.
  15. Actually, I too remember encountering the same problem during beta testing. The Roman and the Celtic warrior had the exact same stats. I whined to Jeff about the Roman not having any Roman Training, but didn't realize that he should've had Tool Use as well. Unfortunately I have no save game with which to verify this, so it is possible my memory is playing tricks on me. (Windows user)
  16. Do I need to enter the sewers from a different point? Because I've tried every possible combination of the three flood gate levers, and can't seem to make any progress.
  17. I'm stuck in the Vanguard sewers. I've found three levers, one of which doesn't work, and one key on a dead sewer worker. Apparently there's supposed to be a boat somewhere, but so far no luck finding it. Any help?
  18. I have the same problem with item stacking. It's been like this for me in three different scenarios, and stacking only seems to work with lockpicks and arrows/bolts, and not e.g. with mild healing potions.
  19. You seem to be in the right place... the boxes you mention are on a higher plateau with three boxes below, right? As far as I remember, the pelts were in the SE box, and they were found simply by looking at the box. Are you sure you have the quest, or that you haven't picked the pelts up earlier? If it's neither of those, then I'm all out of ideas.
  20. Quote: · Hot keys for spells could be based upon Geneforge, one screen each for Healing, War, Craft, Beast and Spirit. Another command would bring up a list of all known spells, capital letters would be needed to provide enough hot keys. ...and adding more menus would improve the game how? I'd say this is really a question of preference because personally I find it much easier when all the spells are under the same menu, each with its own hotkey (and with no capital letter usage required).
  21. Another vote for Lazarus's recommendation. Exiles 1 and 2 were pretty rough around the edges while 3 was the first Spiderweb game I finished. Based on what you said you liked about Exile, E3 has more of everything: Spells, weapons, skills, etc. It's also more challenging because of the dialogue system, where you need to look for keywords instead of just clicking through the options.
  22. Call Hunt. Or Wind Warriors. Or, in the case of me being completely and utterly wrong, and having no saved game to check for sure, something completely different. 'though I know for a fact it is not Glorious Revival.
  23. I assume you've visited the Crone caverns? Then you might want to search the hills west and north of Vanarium. There's at least one lair there that I found quite easy with my non-magic user Romans.
  24. The way I've understood it, the experience your group gains is adjusted based on your level and the level of your opponent, i.e. if you kill a bunch of low level goblins with a lvl 10 party, you're not supposed to gain any xp. If you're killing the same type of enemy, and are gaining xp with melee weapons but not with spells, then I'd assume there's something wrong. Email Jeff about it, or post in the 'Resurrection for Windows notes' thread maybe?
