  1. I'm interested in how old all the salient mages (Erika, Solberg, Patrick, &c) are in relation to each other, i.e. are any of them close enough in age to have gone to school together or anything? (Is this even known in the canon?) Just curious… and for a scenario I'm thinking of writing if I ever get BoX…
  2. There's also the "what kind of reward would there be?" vs. "can I have my reward now?" thing, which would require two keywords and thus be confusing.

I have had this feeling, too, and I've been trying for the past two years to pin down exactly why. Well, no matter how good a fanfic is, there's nothing like the canon. That's how I think of it.
  4. *stabs a shade and watches the mud ooze out of it* =P
  5. I'd definitely remember that chasm, LOL. The one that was long and skinny and went all the way across the world. This one was irregular-shaped, in the corner of a cave and I think there was a white dot, or a building, or both, behind it. A lair of basilisks sounds good. Now I really need to find it so that I can train there… killing Hawthorne is the last thing I have to do, and my party gets killed in about a minute every time. XD
  6. Yeah, initially I was thinking bright purple and dark brown (since I think it says "muddy brown colour" in the description). XD
  7. (He replied before I made the second edit. I just put the second question in the same thread because, well, two threads for the price of one. ) So, the second question still stands: am I crazy or did I see something interesting?
  8. It's strange that it's left to right. I mean, how is brown lighter than purple?
  9. Edit: OK, never mind, found what I was looking for literally a minute after posting. Ain't it always that way? Edit 2: OK, never mind, I have another question. A while ago, before I registered and got the Orb of Thralni and all, I saw this chasm in the honeycomb. I think the sign said it was the "Grimklik Chasm", but I could be wrong. I could have sworn I saw some kind of building on the other side, too. I've come back to the honeycomb with the orb, but could never for the life of me find the chasm. Was I hallucinating that time or is this a real place? What's there?
  10. I don't have a code for the editor… maybe it's on the CD. Edit: Hey, yeah, it is. Okay, cool. I'll try it. Edit 2: No such luck. The character doesn't know any of the spells I got earlier, plus she STILL crashes the game. *sigh*
  11. The editor isn't registered, though, just the game. ><
  12. (Avernum 1 is beating Avernum 3 AND 4! Yay!) I like the atmosphere of Avernum 1, too– there's a sense of complete novelty and exploration (for some reason, I feel like Exile 1 had it more, though). I kind of liked the whole "You're trapped in an underground world. Oh, crap, what are you going to do?!" feeling. I read somewhere that the secret of really good games is making the player feel like they have all the choice in the world, when actually they're doing things that advance the plot. Avernum 1 is like that: you can go anywhere (provided you're at a high enough level not to get killed). In the subsequent ones, you have a specific quest, even from the beginning (although, in Avernum 2, the initial quest is pretty unimportant).
  13. Isn't the Grah-Hoth ritual the one where you wander around and find some mention of a ritual, but only after you've killed the guards, and the dialog box itself says something like "Whoops, everyone forgot all about it"? =D Edit: Oh, yeah, there is another one. I saw it in the game just now. ("Ritual of Safety"?!)
  14. I'm at the battle in the Almaria warehouse, and every time I've tried it the game has unexpectedly quit (usually when a certain one of my characters casts a spell, but sometimes at other times as well). It's never done anything of the kind before. I restarted Classic, gave Exile II a bit more memory, and didn't do all the things you either can't do on Mac OS X or don't apply to me. I'm hesitant about reinstalling Exile II, though, since (as you can see from where I am) I'm registered. How do I reinstall it? Will my save file still work if I use the application on the CD? (Just making sure what exactly I have to do, before I screw something up. ) (Edit: Tried it two more times, and whatever my second mage {6th char} does, it quits. Pretty much, that character coming "up to bat", as it were, spells disaster, unless it crashes before it's her turn, which it did once or twice.) Timeloop: I got the application off the CD but didn't delete anything that was on my computer; the same thing happened. Does that mean that it's the save file, which would mean that the games themselves are all right?

  16. Ah! Thank you! (I had so much trouble getting everyone pants at the beginning of the game, since I would have had to steal them but didn't know how. XD)
  17. An amputated bastard language? XD "Hear me say, devoid of trickery, Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore" That is just awesome. (Yes, he has a knife. )
  18. In Exile 2 and 3, when you go through a door, it opens. In Avernum, you can close them up again so that if you want to steal something from John Q. Public, you can without anyone seeing you. In Exile, looking at the door doesn't work like it does in Avernum– is it possible to close them?

  20. I think it was added in Exile I version 2.0– I also have 1.1.3, and it's not in there. Must have been updated with the graphics.
  21. Acids are proton donors. If the positive charge on the proton can be taken as the analog of positive feelings (e.g. happiness and having fun), then yes, Exile is like an acid.

  23. I believe "back up your save files" is shift + (7,8,9,0).
