  1. Is there a way to get a boat in Upper Avernum? I found this little waterway west of Ghikra that was enclosed completely in a tunnel (ergo, I couldn't explore it overland). I saw a boat in New Cotra (I believe), but I couldn't board it, as it wasn't mine. I didn't come across anyone who sold boats, there or anywhere else. Can one get them?

  3. Tolkien was very logical. He maed the plural of 'elf' 'elves', as it should logically be, instead of the standard 'elfs'. Not only is it more difficult to pronounce than 'elves', but it also makes no sense when you consider 'wolves', 'leaves', 'knives', 'shelves', &c. I think that in medieval times "the middle earth" meant the real world, as opposed to heaven, hell, &c. I vaguely remember reading that somewhere. ^^;;
  4. I haven't tried this out extensively (especially since I'm not very far on E3 as opposed to A3 ;;; ), but I heard that once you sell something to Levy on at least one of those games (I forget which, but it's worth a try), he'll sell it back to you an unlimited number of times. Since he's such a tightwad, you probably lose more money than you would make selling them, but having an unlimited supply of certain things might be nice. With your strategy, it would work even better because you could make back the money from buying stuff from Levy fast.
  5. Firestorm is sometimes better than Flamestrike, though, because it covers a larger area and in some situations/large fights that's what you'd want. I'd rather keep Major Blessing and Protection for those battles, too, because they do more than you can get with priest spells to the same effect (I think), especially because priest spells can't poison your weapons. That's always useful in big battles, too, and carrying around a bunch of poison to put on your weapons takes up precious inventory space. Plus, you can poison yourself by accident if you do it manually. I also just like mages.
  6. For some reason I always thought it was capitalized. I think it might be capitalized in the Exile FAQ (some reference to a Vahnatai cave, I think). Or something. And then when I played Avernum II, I thought "Hey, isn't that a typo? 'Vahnatai' is capitalized!... Wait, no, this is the actual game!"
  7. Ah, that's cool. Thanks, guys! =) -Erika_Redmark3, who never paid any attention to crystals either because in Exile you can get Dispel Barrier in the demo half. There's a set of barriers blocking off a corner in a room in the undead cave near Mertis, and there's bound to be something cool there, especially since they're the kind of barriers that you can't go through at all, not just the kind that hurt you.
  8. A few Avernum questions: -How do I get out of the Ancient Crypt? Does that have to do with what day it is as well? -Is it possible to get the Dispel Barrier spell (I'm guessing not, since you get it in Fort Dranlon in Exile) or is there some kind of supply of piercing crystals in the unregistered part of the game? -When I drank the water in the Ancient Crypt, it said I was "thinking faster" or something and gave me some kind of status effect that had a scroll icon. I couldn't figure out what it was. What does that do?
  9. I was stuck on this for ages! There's a wheel that controls how many staircases there are in that room. Are there three staircases on the bottom (one on each side and one in the middle)? You need the middle one. If it's not there, turn the wheel.
  10. Can someone please explain how the whole 3-D direction thing works? I still can't figure out which monsters are adjacent to which of my characters half the time. >_> Sometimes it seems like I'm way far away from a monster, and I take a step toward it, only I don't, I attack it; sometimes I think I'm adjacent to one but I'm not. It confuses me horribly. ^^;;
  11. The Adze-Haakai, in the middle of the Tower of the Magi. The one with the Onyx Scepter right behind him. Yep. I didn't know there were other Haakai in the Tower of the Magi. You don't have to have the Demonslayer to kill him. Solberg just thinks it's nice if you do, and he's worried that without the Demonslayer you can't do it. (NPC's have so little faith... *grin*) But if your characters are a high enough level, you can beat him anyway. Mine were around level 20, which I thought was odd because it's supposed to be this crucial thing and here I am, still at a relatively low level and killing him. o_O The weird thing is, there's no way to tell Solberg that you killed the Adze-Haakai. I said "Haakai" to him after I did, but he still said stuff like "He must be destroyed" and "Don't try to defeat him until you have the Demonslayer". His redeeming feature is that he tells you all about the fascinating Erika. (Being unregistered, I've never met her, but from what eastern characters tell me about her, she's totally awesome! ^^)
  12. Thanks! Yeah, I found my boat; I realized I'd left it one screen north of Draco. But Solberg doesn't say anything different anyway. ;_; I found his teleporter though, but was very disappointed when nobody said anything different. I was expecting Linda to be more talkative, but no. Yay, the guy I found is good for something! =D=D *armed with the knowledge that there is something to be done, confidently ventures off to Solberg's Tower to go be curious* Thanks again! (Edit: Solberg wants me to have the Demonslayer. All I have is two pieces of it [i'm unregistered ^^;], but I killed the Haakai Lord anyway. Do I have to have it before he tells me anything interesting?)
  13. Meh. Is there a way to get from Fort Dranlon to Fort Draco by boat? I've tried, but they seem to be two different waterways. Otherwise I'll just have to go looking for my boat...
  14. Is Dellston in the unregistered part? I haven't played E3 in a billion years, want to look for that thing, but don't remember Dellston.
  15. Hmmm. I don't think the Exile 1 editor can do anything about boats, since I couldn't find it when searching the editor or in the instructions. It's not in the Extras menu or the "Gold/Food/Healing" section, which are the only things the unregistered version can do. PS. The only other forum I've ever used was one where there basically was no edit button (only high-ranking members could edit their own posts) so I didn't see the edit button at first / didn't assume there was going to be one. *feels stupid* ^^;;
  16. Does the unregistered version return boats too?
  17. Oh yeah, this is in Escape from the Pit. ^^;
  18. In the Tower of the Magi, there's this secret door on the east side with a magic barrier, and there's this apprentice guy behind it who's having a nervous breakdown. He speaks of luring "it" here and controlling it. (He might only appear after you defeat "it" and get the Onyx Scepter, because I saw beyond the wall when I was leaving and found him there. ?) Anyway, is he at all important? Also, does Solberg reward you in any way? If so, I'm screwed over because Fort Draco is out of boats and I lost the one I used on that waterway. ;;
