    Tabletop RPGs

Nalyd has it right. Most people prefer their own settings, I think. However, it's nice to occasionally get away from knights and the like, and play with stone tools or cannons. You're also right that I should have made choices public. I forgot about that option. Can it be done retroactively?
  2. Actaeon: "Of course it has something to do with it, Harehunter! We've obviously either travelled back to the Cretaceous, or somewhere else that looks a hell of a lot like it. In any case, if everyone would kindly find a weapon and help me see to the defense of the bus!" So saying, he pulls a bow from under his long coat and begins to string it. Actaeon: "Still alive out there, Diki?"

    Tabletop RPGs

Since Iffy put together a poll on RPs, I thought I'd go ahead with something a bit more in my comfort zone: RPGs. For those unclear on the distinction, online tabletop RPGs are distinct from RPs by being conducted in real time and having a set of specific mechanics to govern success or failure, as well as a game mater. The most common commercial system is D20, while nearly all campaigns on Spidweb have been conducted with AIMhack. Anyway, I haven't seen any new announcements lately, and would be curious to see what the level and type of interest is.
  4. How much direction are people willing to take? Obviously chaos isn't working, but acting out a plot that's already be aired publicly is hardly better. Y'all seem to be experts on this sort of thing. How would this work: those of us inclined to move the plot forward (that is, be in the know to some extent) can meet on CalRef or AIM at a predetermined time and work out the kinks from start to finish. The rest of those participating will just be along for the ride- free enough to keep things interesting but not so wild as to confuse things further. Our other options include letter things continue as is, locking the thread, abandoning it, or starting from scratch. In the mean time, SoT, I think you should take advantage of the fact that you can apparently see dead people.
  5. Jewels. Then Sylae and Diki keep Jewels in check, and I keep them in check- which really just consists of keeping the dinosaurs and ponies to a minimum. Really, though, I do think collaboration is essential. The key is to get a sense of where everyone's headed, and trying to avoid clashing or interrupting the flow. Some posts seem, to me, superfluous, while others provide interest and inspiration (Jewels and SoT's opening posts are good examples of the latter).
  6. OOC: Y'all are aware that the ruin of the forum and the bus are kinda... separate at the moment, right?
  7. It remains eerily quiet in the wood as Sylae flies along. She has a sense of being watched. Dikiyoba, meanwhile, discovers species of Betula, Cercocarpus, Fraxinus, Aster, Rhododendron, and a dozen other plants native to most of North America. Finally, a great hulking shape looms into view. Dikiyoba (whispers): "Sequoia." From the distance, the Spiderwebbers hear a shout. Dikiyoba: "I know where we are!"
  8. Actaeon wakes with a start. He finds himself surrounded by frightened, dusty Spiderwebbers. In the distance, he sees a plume of smoke rising from the new boards. Actaeon: "What the?" He finally notices the blue speck. Actaeon: "Oh no..." As the last fleeing Spiderwebber boards the bus, the scene shifts. Outside, dense forest obscures all but a little patch of blue sky. Actaeon: "I forgot to turn off the engine..." Excalibur: "So, did we travel in time, or just...?" Actaeon: "Only one way to find out, I guess." Dikiyoba: "Do you suppose there's a grocery store nearby?"
  9. Actaeon is asleep in the seat behind the driver, dreaming peacefully of days gone by.
  10. Pretty sure that was Arizona. New Mexico is the liberal bastion of the SouthWest.
  11. That would only take, like, two new accounts. Really, Trenton, keep up.
  12. Yes, yes, you're an oldbie. However, I ran the math, and your rate is still higher than mine. Not higher than Alorael or Randomizer, but... You are confused. There are far more than two Tyrans, although none (that I know of) contain an apostrophe.
  13. That would work even better if the Imban joke was about Master1, instead.
  14. Given how much I resent standardizes testing for its role in education, I'm pretty sure I don't want it anywhere near the presidency. In any case, I am much more concerned about the behavior of the Legislative branch than the Executive, lately. Edit: Just looked up the Citizens United case. It didn't mean NEARLY what I'd been lead to believe.
  15. Come now, Aran. If Alorael is a member of a class of things which are all Imban, it does not necessarily follow that all things that are Imban are also Alorael. Your fancy notation does not change the transitive property of equality's applicability, or lack thereof.
  16. 3,414 posts hardly qualifies as rarely, VCH. Or, if it does, there are only twenty members who are otherwise.
  17. It was worth it to see your return. To mark the occasion, I'll start a thread where we all share our real names, addresses, and SSNs.
  18. You were always just a number; you simply didn't know it until now.
  19. It's possible that some of the very low numbers remained the some. Otherwise, most everyone has had a significant change, going down. To clarify, I'm not asking for a free for all to talk about your own PDNs. We've had plenty of those. The member number discussion was derailing Jewels' thread, so I'm trying to give it a new home.
  20. Want to respond to an aspect of the forum that isn't really covered in any thread? Like someone sig, dislike their avatar, or want to show off your new member number? Here's the place to do that.
  21. If this is going to continue, perhaps we should make a separate member number topic? Edit: Kindly direct your further comments here.
  22. One question I forgot to ask is whether we should go back to the old method of choosing the VP. I can't help but giggle internally at the idea of Obama and Romney sharing the White House.
  23. Actaeon deliberately scribbles "peanut butter", "jelly", and "bread" onto the list. He glares around as if to defend the dullness of his selection. He then dons his long coat, exits Spidweb, and sits in the seat behind the driver, giving Diki a conspiratorial wink on his way past.
  24. I move that we introduce a measure which restricts all non-spiderweb memes, gimmicks, inside jokes, and references (including, but not limited to, punning, rhyming, alliteration, yo momma jokes, Dr Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wheel of Time, and ponies) to specified threads. Exceptions will be made for direct applicability to the subject at hand. Avatars, profiles, and custom titles are also exempt. Memes considered spiderweb-associated (and thus permissible in any context) include, but are not limited to: Fluffy Turtles, Alex's Cartoons, Dikiyoba's stories, Slarty vs Desk, Imban, GIFTs, Skribbane, Sniping Pedestrians, electing Alcritas.
  25. Edit: Reprimand retracted due to corresponding behavioral retraction.
