  6. I'm curious if anyone did not kill the Scourge or the Darkside Loyalists? Instead they took out Lord Farrar and the Vahnatai? I know that counts as doing the two quests for Melanchion, but I think it would affect the outcome a lot. Anyone do that? By the way, what happens if you kill Gladwell and Melanchion? I stopped working for Gladwell once I figured out what he was trying to do, but I didn't consider him much of a threat. And I hate killing dragons. They're an endangered species, after all.
  7. I kept my acid bow for a quite a while even though I had stronger bows because of the damage dealt over time and being able to hurt highly resistant guys.

  9. Erika was by far the most awesome wizard ever. I will never forget the epic battle at the end of Exile III. I loved her passion as well. I wish I could have found a way to get into her tower in A6. Since she wasn't in A6, though, I'd have to go with Solberg. His dialog was interesting and how his character was viewed made sense. Not sure how he recovered from A5, but, whatever. X's description was interesting, but he wasn't very developed. Honestly, I thought the anvil dropping idea was completely retarded. Lark was nice and has the best/hardest quests, but she doesn't seem very powerful. More of a hoarder than anything. Someone mentioned Linda, however. Curse the day she was born! No character have I hated more than her in all the Exile/Avernum series. Her absolute stupidity, insane arrogance, and recklessness combined to make a thoroughly putrific woman!

The quality of the translation would need to be far above what Babelfish or Google can do. I'm curious to know actually how much dialogue is actually in a single game, say, Avernum 6. Would it come out to similar to a novel? While I don't think it is quite analogous, I know of one open-source game that has an army of translation volunteers. Battle for Wesnoth campaigns have been translated into almost 50 different languages, all by volunteers. Most of it isn't quality work, but I think for Spiderweb, beta-testers could help sort out the errors during beta-testing. I wonder how much professional translators cost?

    I've been wondering if Spiderweb Software has ever thought about translating their games into other languages? This would lead to a wider audience, but I imagine it would be difficult to implement. Spiderweb's games contain a lot of text, so I can see how it might be a difficult undertaking.

  14. So I finally beat it. I would advise anyone else who has difficulty with this to focus all attention on the sparkling blue pillar. If you damage it significantly, it only takes three rounds to beat the trap. After that, it's easy.
  15. Although I think achievements are stupid, I do hope you get on Steam. Great way to increase your audience. Lots of indie games on there already.

  18. I think battle disciplines are ok, but I was a little annoyed with the last one, Battle Frenzy. It seems like a glorified haste potion that uses 12 Fatigue! I didn't notice a boost to my damage. Has anyone found this useful?
  19. Maybe I'm too low of a level to survive this yet. I've tried half a dozen times and can't survive more than 15 rounds. I just wish it would give me some indicator that I'm getting close.
  20. I'm trying to think what I sound I could write to describe the shuddering feeling of horror I get when I think of THAT game. I pushed myself to play it because I got in on the CD from Spiderweb oh so long ago. I'm not sure what exactly made me hate it so much, but I don't want to remember.
  21. Approximately how long does this take? I've been hitting the blue pylons for about ten or twelve rounds and nothing has happened except me getting killed by the shade. Or one of my guys gets scared and runs away and I have to start all over. I did notice a little text that said the shade was getting hurt a couple of times.

  23. How do I make a wand with a ring or necklace? I haven't encountered any that require them.
  24. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the game now, and I'm wondering if there is a use for all the non-magical jewelry I've been collecting. Is there a point where someone can turn them into something magical, or am I just nostalgic for Geneforge? By the way, this is a really dead forum.
