Tenderfoot Thahd Krono
How do you copy Geneforge 4 onto another computer? Because I bought it and my brother wants to play.
Understated Ur-Drakon Sudanna
Nalyd is probably horribly wrong, but he's pretty sure that that's illegal. Maybe.
Unflappable Drayk John S
Edit: This is from the G4 license: "Non-profit distribution of the software is permissible without prior written notice, providing that the Software is not modified in any way, and the complete works of the Software are included in the distribution package." Hatchling Cockatrice Slawbug
You've got to be kidding. *facepalm*

You left out a pretty important word there, noticably that it reads: "Non-profit distribution of the unaltered, demo version of this software is permissible...." What the license actually says is that: Quote: You own the disk on which the Software is recorded but Spiderweb and/or Spiderwebs’s Licensor(s) retain title to the Software and related documentation. This License allows you to use the Software on more than one computer, provided there is no chance it will be used simultaneously on more than one computer. This License allows you to make as many copies of the Software in machine-readable form as you need for backup purposes only. I'm no lawyer, it seems pretty clear that you aren't supposed to be copying it to other computers, even if it is your brother.
Unflappable Drayk John S
Oh. Oops. I originally checked my A2 license, which doesn't say that (I checked that because I registered A2, unlike G4). I then checked the G4 to make sure the sentence was still there, but I guess I didn't read far or thoroughly enough.

Fledgling Fyora Ramu
So.... copying it to another comp as long as it is backup of the original software & provided no one else plays it is legal? That's good cause I can put it on my anti-internet comp for safety purposes.
Easygoing Eyebeast Imban
Uh, to answer the original poster's question, you'd copy Geneforge 4 to another computer in the same way you'd copy any file to another computer. Ramu's question is an explicit yes, although even if it was a no, only IP droids would suggest you comply.
Understated Ur-Drakon Callie
I think it's legal to copy the game on to any other computer in YOUR household. For example; if you're creating a BoA scenario, you need to test on a Mac and a Windows. Two out of the four computers in our house have BoA. I have a question about the legal stuff: I bought BoA and the Avernum trilogy. My little brother begged me to play BoA, so I put it on one of the other computers in our household. That's legal right? Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Technically, no, so long as you don't play BoA on them both at the same time.

Understated Ur-Drakon Sudanna
Fixed Your Typo. It's used humorously.
