Chittering Clawbug Khyryk Eye
Is anyone else facing an unopenable gate after killing the black wight in the tunnels northwest of Harston? I can sort of see what's behind it (some coffins), but can't find any means nearby to open it up. Would appreciate your suggestions.
Magnificent Ornk Ephesos
You can't get out of the chamber through that gate... look in the southwest corner of the room where the wight was, and look for a button along the wall. You'll find a passage that drops you out among the coffins, and from there you can open the gate the same way you opened the other one. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Otherwise you have to wait until you can get a boat and come around from the other side. Of course then you delay getting the best sword for the early part of the game.
Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
It is possible to take the long way around the room, and run behind the wight to hit the switch to the secret passage to the crypt you can see behind the gate. The highly unpleasant wight will probably haste or move before attacking you, giving you a chance to run through. It's not easy, but it's possible. It's also well worth it if you are prepared for more tactics above to secure the best sword in the early game, which is well worth it if you are running a melee fighter. -S-

Wait, what sword is that? EDIT: Nevermind, went and looked at the Items thread... just a Waveblade. Not really all that great.
Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
Still, it's a significantly better sword than you'll have for quite a while, even though it is "just a waveblade." I found it well worth the effort to secure about 2/3 through chapter one. The only problem is that melee always feels weak, if you have a pole fighter alongside. No sword can resolve that. -S-
Hatchling Cockatrice ex post slarto
Except for the Flaming Sword. But yeah, melee is still weak, and pretty hard to justify using.
Kyshakk Koan wxxqut
So, basically the worst thing you could do is have a human melee chracter. My favourite.Guess Il have to change my tactiks when A5 comes out for windows.
Chittering Clawbug Khyryk Eye
Thanks Ephesos! I found the buttons. That was devilishly tricky. I have no use for the waveblade though; my warrior is doing a lot more damage with a spear...
Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
Laki - I used a melee fighter in my party of four on normal and found him quite adequate. He was my front man, and didn't die as often as my slith. The flaming sword is pretty cool, and there are a couple others worth carrying around and swapping out. If you like melee, unless you're playing a torment game trying to min-max everyone, have a melee fighter, and enjoy it. You'll do fine. Consider it a bit of extra challenge thrown in. -S-
Ineffable Wingbolt Dahak
Is it safe to kill the Black Wight before getting the mission to kill it and bring back its head?
Chittering Clawbug Khyryk Eye
yeah, after I got the mission I was worried too, but then I went back to the room where the wight was, and got the head just by walking into it. Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
Yes, that's it - you'll just have to come back after getting the mission to actually get the head, so you can't botch it up by doing it too early. -S-
