Challenge- Spell Sword

Ok; as long as we are doing interesting and mostly pointless challenges I propose... the spell sword

 

Rules:

-you must play an agent

-you may not use any weapons with the exeption of swords

-you may only use magic that affects your character and only your charactor

-no battle magic

-no shilds or heavy armour

I believe that you have missed the point with variant challenges. It's not meant to be "pointless."

 

It is meant as a test of skill. Do you have what it takes to play by self imposed restrictions to make the game more difficult intentionally, thus bringing true skill into play?

Melee Guardians are tough enough; a melee-only Agent seems kind of crazy, at least at higher difficulties.

I'll still argue that melee-focused Agents are no harder than melee-focused Guardians, if not easier. Daze is really useful and more than makes up for the reduced HP supply and the lower QA and Parry scores.

Yeah, but the rules of the challenge as Harlequin presented them forbid any sort of spell cast on someone other than yourself (i.e. no Daze).

indeed. I think I got confused by the redundant "no battle magic."

 

in that case, all you're really doing is running a guardian with weaker skills.

No, I dont agree, the focus would be on spells that augment the character, rather than brute force.

It seems like bless and shielding have a ceiling as to how strong the effect is, although they (and speed) certainly last longer with better skill. By halfway through the game a guardian will be nearly as capable as an agent at buffing.
