Tenderfoot Thahd hartonfamily
Hey all - So, I had never played any of the Geneforge games before, and am totally digging it. Problem is, now that I have much more of a handle on how to play the game, I've totally messed up how I should have created my character. I saw from a previous post that there is a 'retrain' option, but right now my character is a Guardian, and I'd much rather have been a Shaper. Is there any way to manipulate my save file into making my guy a shaper? Then I could use retrain to go back to square 1 with a better build? I'm like, 15ish hours in I think? I've cleared everything up to the Tombs which is where am at now, and I'll be honest, I like the game, but def not enough to just make a new guy from scratch and re do all of this. Thanks in advance! Well-Actually War Trall alhoon
I don't think it is possible to be honest. However... the game is quite forgiving on builds.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It might be possible, but I can't see where it is in the save game files. You really aren't that far in the game and it goes faster since you know what to expect.
Tenderfoot Thahd hartonfamily
Yeah, I retrained and outside Leadership/Mechanics I put all my points into creations / essence mastery. It's just way annoying that I have less points then I would have if I had just been a shaper. My original idea was to have a heavy melee MC and just put points into the Fire Summon, I figured that way my points wouldn't be spread around too much. And I loved the idea of a Knight w/ some basic healing and a pet. But, since when you die the games over, being anywhere near the action if its actually a 'real' battle is pretty bad, so all my points in melee/strength/endurance were just completely wasted. It's fine I guess, and I can always set it back to normal if I would need to, just frustrating.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Guardians even without pets are fairly powerful. Their flaw is except for a few missile weapons: wands and crystals, they don't have an attack that can hit several foes at once like agents. Curious Artila grod_the_giant
I'm not on my home computer so I can't confirm this, but I *think* if you look through GFitemschars.txt there's a section governing the health, energy, and essence progression of each class. If you adjust the Guardian values for those to match the Shaper's, you should manage okay. I'm pretty sure you can also adjust what sprite and portrait you use in the same place; I know the last time I replayed GF 5 I played a Sorceress but edited her to look like a Shock Trooper. (I'm a fan of the theory that your GF5 character is actually your GF4 character after messing around with the Geneforge too much, and I played a Shock Trooper there)
