The Final Spire help

I'm in the Hand of Water Sanctuary, and it's flooding. My vahnatai and slith friends just drowned, and I'm supposed to go somewhere to avoid death. Where do I go?

The runes to the north.

I step on it and nothing happens.

If I remember correctly, you can't do it in combat mode.

Yes, there's a combat block, but even when I end combat and walk over to it, nothing happens.

Grab the emeralds, and cast your shielding special spell (special items, can't remember the exact name offhand), THEN step on the runes. Hurry!

Okay, new, separate problem (hence the double-post).

 

I'm in Okarion's Tower. I've pretty well searched the bottom three levels (except a few unopenable doors). When I go to the fourth level and try to move forward, I get a message that it would be bad to approach Okarion without any defenses.

 

What do I do?

Alright, go into the library, kill Eltus, and search the desk. If you can figure out the puzzle, it should be pretty easy.

You need to fix the amulet. Two halves of a medalion and a chain that you should have found in the tower. You're told how to fix it in the library. Bottom floor south doors. I hope you didn't drop your ember flowers or purple berries cause then you'd have to start over/go to an earlier save and that would suck.

The Okarion fight is baffling me. I can't tell if I'm doing anything, and he seems to kill me rather faster than I can heal myself.

 

EDIT: Ach, well, I cheated my way through the darn thing, but it would still be useful to know what I was supposed to do.

Just use the special spells until he's dead. That's all there is to it. I don't know how Bain calculated the hp to take against him or if it's just a timed fight. I don't really feel like looking.
