Garrulous Glaahk Davies
I downloaded the demo version of this game, installed it. When I go to run it, I get the Avernum requires the monitor to be set to 16-bit color etc message. After clicking okay, I get this: Unhandled exception: c0000005 At address: 0040293e And the program closes. I'm using a Windows 7 running netbook. What should I do? Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
What resolution is your screen? Also what GPU (video card) does your netbook have?
Garrulous Glaahk Davies
What resolution is your screen? Also what GPU (video card) does your netbook have? 1024x600, and it has an Intel GMA 3150, not a separate video card. Even when I change the resolution to exactly 800x600, the program still won't start.
Understated Ur-Drakon The Almighty Doer of Stuff
System Requirements:PC Running Windows 98 or later or Macintosh running System 10.3.9 or later. 50 MB free RAM. 200 MB hard disk space. 1024x768 screen resolution with 16 bit color (Windows) or 32 bit color (Macintosh). Avernum 4 runs natively on Intel Macintoshes. Your resolution is too low. Sorry, but netbooks aren't for playing games. Unless you want to play SkiFree: http://ski.ihoc.net/ I love SkiFree. Garrulous Glaahk Davies
But I can get Avernum 6, Avadon and Avernum: Escape from the Pit working just fine on it! I purchased the last one and am planning to purchase the other two as soon as possible.
Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
Geneforge 5 and every game after it, including A6, Avadon, and A:EftP, support multiple multiple resolutions. A4, A5, G4, and possibly G3 run only at 1024x768. The dialog at the beginning of A4 says 800x600, but it is a holdover from older games with the same engine. When these games were made, netbooks did not yet exist, and the idea that a computer screen with fewer than 768 vertical pixels might be made was laughable. Garrulous Glaahk Davies
Shoot. Well, G3 runs fine, I can at least report that. There's no emulator software that I could use to trick the game or something like that? (So I can play the start and the end of these series with no problems, but not the middle? Boy, you really do have to check your sanity at the door here.) BMA
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
you can't increase screen resolution and A4&5 don't have option to run those in window (nor orig. trilogy but those use smaller resolution), when I 1st time played Exile 3 on mac I couldn't see bottoim row where were cast icons etc so party was totally physical party due no idea about shortcuts.
