Boat pathfinding bug?

When you're on a boat, it seems to me that the pathfindng becomes very dumb, much less effective than when you're on foot. Is this a known issue? The boat seems to try to go straight to where you clicked, and gets stuck on any protrusions in the path. Not a problem, but seemed strange because the a star (or whatever pathfiding) for regular walking works fine.

This is why you have to row, row, row your boat instead of just telling it where to go. I have found it to be a bit annoying in the past, but by now, I have gotten used to jus doing short, straight line jaunts with the boat. ... I get to see the scenery better that way anyway.

Yeah, it's a known issue. The pathfinding algorithms in general are cobbled together out of mostly spit and duct tape, and the boat ones are even worse. Even the land-based one does weird things sometimes, especially in combat.

The worst part about the path finding algorithms is these are the improved versions.

I thought a star pathfinding was already a pretty well documented, solved problem with many standardized implementations?

pathfinding shows up at worst in Final Gauntlet battle, many times my casters decide to take longer path to fireball Eyebeast and run out of action points.
