Gender choices for male sorcerer, male shaman, female blademaster, female shadowwalkers

I would like to be able to buy Avadon and role-play as a male sorcerer, but it appears that the classes are gender-limited. I hope that Spiderweb Software expands Avadon so that there are choices for both genders in all classes. That would be great! Any thoughts if this is a good idea and if there is a chance it could happen?

For the first game, time and money constraints kept the character gender options limited. Jeff has suggested that that is likely to change for the sequel.

There was a medium-sized stink about this when the game first came out. Jeff more-or-less stated that if Avadon did well, he'd change it in the sequel.

 

Frankly, if it bothers you that much, you could always find the sprite sheets for the Sorceress in the games data files and replace them with a male graphic. It's a decent amount of work, but it can be done. Of course, that has a side effect of making all the sorceresses in the game male, which can lead to some gender confusion when Nathalie becomes a guy referred to be female pronouns, but that's just the price you pay.

It's not like there aren't a plethora of male warriors depicted as women already.

I seem to recall that he changed the chitrach graphic post-release in A4 as well.

Yes, but that was an extreme case, and the replacement graphic was also provided free of charge by a customer.

It also didn't require altering the engine to provide a choice between male and female graphics.

 

—Alorael, who supposes Jeff would probably happily provide a way to switch sprite sets with a separate installer-like thing if someone gave him free sets. With the level of animation present in Avadon, though, it seems unlikely to happen. (That's a challenge!)

I wish the strong Conan look of both gendre in Avernum will come back for Avadon sequel, gosh that warrior girl was cool, wasn't she?

bit off-topic: some Dhorla Steads Shamans gave quite manly death rattle, doubt they are only. Some archers gave quite womanly death rattle.

I think financial limitations leading to graphical limitations are to be blamed. Hopefully, all this will be straightened out in Avadon 2, where money should (hopefully) be available for these graphics.
