Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
Or is geneforge 3 the best of the series? It seems to be the longest game, has the best plot I have seen so far,has a neater system then 4 and 5,and is HARD.Just the way i like em. agreed? Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
Around here, I'd say it's just you. On these forums, at least, most people rank G3 lowest of the five games (though G3 does have its defenders whenever someone makes a poll on the subject). They dislike the plot because they feel its too similar to G1 and G2, they dislike the lack of freedom to choose factions found in earlier games, and they dislike the boat system which complicates movement throughout the game. I've only played 1, 2, and 3, so I can't comment on 4 or 5 beyond the demos. I didn't feel G3 was any harder than its two predecessors, overall. I definitely concur with the popular forum views that the boat system was annoying and that I missed the ability to choose my own path (as in G1 and G2). I agree with you that interface of G3 had improvements over the first two games, but I don't know that it's meaningfully better than G4 or G5. Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Dikiyoba thought G3 had the worst interface in the series, between the boats and the combination of old encumbrance plus new inventory. It was bad enough Dikiyoba never got past the demo.
Hatchling Cockatrice Mea Tulpa
Triumph's summary of board opinion is spot-on. Generally, G1 receives the most praise due to its originality and engagingness, and G3 receives the least praise due to its recycling of stale content, the boat system, and the forced choice of 2 factions (although that last point has its defenders). Of the others, rollicky G2 and gritty G4 usually get rated somewhat higher than G5. But nobody here agrees about all Spiderweb games, so if you love G3, that's great! Have a blast with it. Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
Hmm. I found the new inventory system preferable to the old, mostly for the fact that one could see all of a character's items at once. New encumbrance was the real breakthrough, though. As for me, I prefer G4. The opening sections remain (along with a few of the more noteworthy scenes from A6) my favorite things from Jeff Vogel's corpus. Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
just for the record, [snip]. I think i said enough... Hey,do you think that geneforge 1 through 3 remakes would be nice? They could use the geneforge 5 system, and finally get some looks from those graphic-only players. Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Jeff knows his games are easy to pirate. There's not a lot anyone can do about it. We just can't talk specifics about it in case it inadvertently encourages someone to pirate one of Jeff's games. Dikiyoba.
Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
which is why i did not talk specifically. So,geneforge remakes???
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
Jeff has never said anything about Geneforge remakes (that I know of). He has said he wants to redo the early Avernums (I assume that means 1-3). And he's got a new series in Avadon. I expect that those will occupy his efforts in the foreseeable future. Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
avernum remakes sound quite nice too,and as for avadon-there is still hope. After all, people havent keygen-ed it yet.

Jeff said, a long time ago, that he does eventually plan to give the earlier Geneforge games (1-3, I assume) a facelift. That's somewhere in The Vague Future, though. Jeff's revamped the anti-piracy controls on Avadon-it's totally different now. We probably Shouldn't talk about specifics, but suffice to say, people who are looking for keygens are wasting their time, because they won't find any. Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
Well, that sounds very promising, but every system can be cracked...its just a matter of when. Its quite sad, really. BTW, i belive that not discussing cracks, torrents and serials means that we cannot talk about using them. Just mentioning them like I did does no harm, see: crackkeygentorrentfullgameforfreeandotherillegalstuff. no offence.
Magnificent Ornk Student of Trinity
No offence in turn, MMXPERT, but you can't just say 'no offence'. This stuff is Jeff's livelihood — his family's home and savings. If all the people that have pirated his games had instead paid him for his work, he'd have a bigger home and more savings. Or a nice family vacation for his kids, that he can't afford, when he otherwise could have. He's resigned to it, but it's not exactly funny to him, you know? Put yourself in his shoes, and maybe you'll see the point. So, even if talking about pirating games on his own board wouldn't actually hurt him, it's pretty rude. Please lay off. I point this out because I'm a moderator. I shouldn't have to.
Ineffable Wingbolt Necris Omega
... Honestly, I dunno why, but I'm having a hard time picking out a favorite Geneforge. Unlike Avernum, I've not played through them a GAZILLION times (okay, well maybe five) and they just don't stick with me. For SOME reason I couldn't even be buggered to finished the last Geneforge. I don't get it, I don't know why, but... it just didn't click with me. I... guess the prospect of going around and killing the High Shaperate just didn't thrill me maybe? I'unno... I love the quirky uniqueness that is Geneforge. Really, I'd probably enjoy it more now that I've since learned to play since Geneforge 1, where I was pantsifyingly frustrated at the end game. Too attached to my first shaping doodles to smush them back into the play-doh jar of creation to make the more advanced and powerful creations... Curious Artila Tomas, spying on Yves mushrooms
My personal favorite is... can not make decision because i like G2&G3 equally In spite both are very different: G2 sandbox style and G3 story driven. Articulate Vlish Tuldrac
G1 and 2 are my favorite. I played all the way through 3 once... 4 and 5 I havent played apart from the demos yet. Overall though g2 was my favorite, it's the story and the characters that make the game for me, and it's story blew my little mind at the time. Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
exactly my point, we shouldnt go about yelling how to crack games and use keygens, but saying the word without anything related to actually using those is fine, right? Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Originally Posted By: MMXPERT but saying the word without anything related to actually using those is fine, right? Hatchling Cockatrice Mea Tulpa
Just so things are totally clear: Dikiyoba and Student of Trinity are both board moderators, as am I. They have been quite gentle in encouraging you to stop talking about this stuff. The policy is indeed that there is no discussion of cracks or other piracy methods on these boards, however benevolent the discussion may be. You don't have to agree with it, that's just what the policy is. You can check the Code of Conduct. (I just edited it to make sure this point was clear: it previously said "solicit or distribute," and now it says "solicit, distribute, or discuss.") Anyway, please consider the warnings you have already gotten official warnings; further discussion will result in a ban. I don't mean to be harsh, this is just what the rules are here. You are very welcome to stick around! Anyway, I think this thread is really to go to bed.
