Regarding the volcanic vents area in the Northern Isles, when the portcullis slams shut behind you, you can just *pass through it* and avoid the nightmarish gauntlet of volcanic vents dealing out 60+ fire damage. Once the volcanic eruptions die down, another entrance to the crystal cave is created near where you first come in. And there's nothing to stop you from going back through *the incorporeal door* and crossing the gauntlet, which no longer deals out 60+ fire damage. The glitch works out perfectly.
