Ineffable Wingbolt I_am_a_Minotaur
How do you get it to come and attack you?
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
Approach it. It'll start acting hostilely as soon as it can see you.
Magnificent Ornk Donald Hebb
Its acquisition range is somewhat more generous than you might expect- JV (rightfully) assumes that some dumbasses will probably meander too close accidentally, especially with how close that church is. Ineffable Wingbolt I_am_a_Minotaur
But what if it's never there?
Kyshakk Koan Lattan
It will eventually appear after you do some stuff.
Ineffable Wingbolt I_am_a_Minotaur
What stuff? I've killed the drake, the Vahinnitti, what else is there to do? EDIT: typo
Tenderfoot Thahd Minsc
it should be here when you've finished all the quests and the mayor of formello want to send you to the next town. (or maybe it's even here before)
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Also, sometimes it's in Silvar instead. So if you can't find it in Formello, check Silvar. Why do you want it to attack you, anyway? Pea Eye's quest?

If it's not in Formello and you can't get to Silvar instead, go somewhere several map sections away and then come back. Later, the easiest way will be to go through a pylon and then back into the town until the shade appears.

Magnificent Ornk Donald Hebb
...you can't kill it in the demo. I mean it- you quite literally can't kill it.
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
I think it would be possible, were it not for the fact that you can't find the way to stop its healing powers until well past the registration barrier. As it is, though, TM's right.

Magnificent Ornk Donald Hebb
Kel's wrong. The shade is one of those monsters (like Doricas or Rentar) who literally cannot be killed. You can pound the shade into what SHOULD be well below 0HP, but it will always persist (and regenerate).
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
All you need to kill them is a control rod, right? That makes them no longer unkillable. If you could get that in the demo, you'd probably be strong enough to kill them.
Magnificent Ornk Donald Hebb
Wasn't it the Onyx Scepter? Anyway, you need to get to Rentar Ihrno's lair to kill the shades, and that just ain't happening in the demo. Sorry.
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
I can't tell if you still think you're disagreeing with me. We're saying the same thing.
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Yes, you trade the control rod for the Onyx Scepter to kill shades, and no, you can't do it in the demo. I can't even think of any way to realistically get the shade down to 0 health before it regenerates back to full health. —Alorael, who now wonders why the plagues in A4 are relatively tame compared to those of A3. Sure, shades are bad, but they're not like Alien Beasts overrunning an entire province.
Magnificent Ornk Donald Hebb
I was saying that it's the Onyx Scepter- an old favorite. And that you have to get to Rentar's first fort.
Garrulous Glaahk the horned slayer
i tried the kill the black shade of ice by cheating and used divine fire and got it down the lowest and it simply didn't die
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
Which was what TM and I were saying. Unless you have an item that you can't get in the demo, you can't kill the shade.
