  1. I usually end up mousing over (or pointing, on ipad) to see what exactly it is I'm fighting. It's too hard to differentiate just by visuals.
  2. I've gotten the first one several times, in different places. I've found the trap door, but at times I couldn't find anything and had to reload. Is there a trap door for all of the empty spaces? I've got the bug maybe like 10 times throughout the entire game. (ipad version) I've had it happen on stairs and portals. Once, the bug threw me into a different room that I still didn't have the keys to get to. kinda cool, but I couldn't figure out what happened for a while.
  3. Interesting.. Surprised Scimitar loses relevance. Vahnatai, eh. I remember going into a vahnatai crypt and grabbing something. Sounds like I'll need to get back into A2. I'm guessing the whole series is going to be re-released with the new UI/interface? OMG avernum2 looks... well, I guess I shouldn't judge the book by its cover. I thought the latest version looked pretty decent. Does A2 even run in win7?
  4. I beat the whole thing, just wondering story wise what happens next in Avernum 2. I can go get it sure, but was wondering if it takes place on land, or is it still underground? In terms of story, is there a huge arc that spans the entire series? Or are they written so they're sort of modular? (skip avernum 2 and play 3, etc) I'm still curious as to how Kyass's project turns out, and where Scimitar goes with their revenge. I mean, Scimitar is okay in the context of this game since what they can do was limited, but it seems like if they get out of hand, they'd be over the top aggressive rebels. And Erika.. man, if she's let loose, that can be pretty serious too. Do these play out in Avernum 2? Scimitar + Erika.. that's bad news for the surface people man..
  5. oh, nice, those guys keep respawning? I went all the way through so I was kind of running out of things to do.
  6. I think the problem was that I flicked a switch and found a warp crystal first for some reason, and once I warped back, I couldn't pass the bridge anymore even if I turned the wheel. I hope I can get back in there somehow.
  7. ah, ok thanks. I did turn a bunch of wheels but probably missed some of the switches. I do remember the dark part, it was annoying as hell.
  8. Wrapped in spoiler just in case, wanted to know what was supposed to happen in this segment of the game. Click to reveal.. On the "get back to land" mission, I get to a fake land thing, and then kill everyone, circle back to Sulfras.. did I miss something or was the whole thing just to get to the trap? I felt cheated and beat the hell out of Sulfras, not sure if I was supposed to do that but it sure felt good. It seems like nothing really changes after the whole thing. Maybe I'm supposed to report to Scimitar in Bargha since it's their project? Or there isn't a conclusion to this mission?
  9. interesting. I had my 2 melee guys attack 1 golemn, thinking it'll die eventually but it seemed like the golmens cannot be killed. So perhaps damaging all golemns as fast as possible speeds up the.. uh, the "process" to the last phase of the battle? (I guess writing it out would be a spoiler) I recall it took a good 4-5 rounds (maybe even more?) before I got the last phase of the battle, which means quite a lot of aggregate damage from the golemns were I not using invulnerability.
  10. I just killed hawthorne and was wondering what strategies would work in that situation. For me, I used invulnerability potion and that made it pretty easy. (in normal difficulty) I tried with ward of elements, but 4 golemn fire rings would still nearly completely drain all the characters even at level 35, and with additional damage from the humans (guards/mages/etc), I think you're over powered. Killing the humans doesn't seem to be an option since you can't kill them off fast enough. So I'm wondering if there are any other strategies to get past that part. Invulnerability feels a bit like a cheat since it completely turns the battle upside down.
  11. oh duh.. I can swear the dialog said "you don't have the key".. oh well, I guess that's just the default response to a door you haven't met the criteria to open.
  12. Agree, it won't be nearly as confusing if there's some way to organize the quests in a comprehensible manner.
  13. Reading a walkthrough: http://www.gamesover.com/walkthroughs/avernum.htm Some content is outdated, but the storyline and quests are the same as the current version more or less. I think I see more clearly why I'm so confused about this game. I'm having a very difficult time figuring out which quests relate to what tasks, and what the logical order is to do them in. I think the main issue is that I got Grah-Hoth, revenge on the empire, AND escape from Avernum started at the same time, and it confused the hell out of me. The quest list wasn't too helpful because it was hard to understand which quests related to which mission. (task dependencies) Reading the walkthrough really helped. Before that I didn't even understand that the missions were supposed to come in a specific order. (well, escape would be last, logically) I felt like Avadon had much cleaner flow, where you go on an expedition one by one, and get the next one when you finished. The handholding cut down the confusion a lot. I guess it's a much newer game, and was designed in a different state of mind.
  14. Interesting, a serrated and wavy blade. Gotta be hell of a knife to sharpen. lol.
  15. what the heck is a serrated kris? I don't see that in the weapons list: http://www.spiderwebforums.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=252979#Post252979
  16. I must have skipped some text, I have no idea what key opens the vat chamber to get to grah-hoth. anyone?
  17. I see, the original was already designed in such a way. I guess more freedom of choice the more responsibility. It works the other way around too, I guess. If I knew I needed something from Athron, why the hell did I kill Athron.. right. So I killed her knowing there was a possibility of breaking the game.
  18. Ah, so killing Athron is a problem. The gamedesign 'safeguards' seem to fall apart towards the end. Quest orders start to get difficult to manage in game (I can memo it somewhere else I guess) and actions boiling down to pretty random searches, esp the brooches.. I'm still quite critical of the last phase of the game.. Why is Athron even kill-able if that eventually breaks the game? I did eventually find Rone's notebook. It really makes no sense that it's in the CUBICLE right next to his cubicle, which Rone explicitly refers to as CHAMBERS.
  19. I'm at the last portion of the game where I need to free grah-hoth, get passwords, find brooches and related subquests. I was looking for passwords, went to as Khoth, but he referred me to Athron.. problem is, I killed Athron since it got mad at me for trespassing. I did go over all conversation patterns with Athron before I killed it, and couldn't find anything related to a password.. Also, for Grah-hoth, I was told to speak to Rone. He tells me to find his journal in his chambers, but I don't see anything that's specifically labeled as Rone's room. So I'm stuck on that as well. But anyway, I'm more worried about Athron being dead. I also killed Pyrog or whoever the mean one is.. Wondering if I've screwed up my game. Lastly, I got all the dragonslayer parts, but not sure where to go from there. I remember seeing a smith that boasted he was the best in the world, but can't remember where he was at. I'm assuming I need to bring the parts to someone to fix the sword.
  20. I thought a star pathfinding was already a pretty well documented, solved problem with many standardized implementations? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A*_search_algorithm anyway, was just curious why it worked for walking and not for the boat.
  21. When you're on a boat, it seems to me that the pathfindng becomes very dumb, much less effective than when you're on foot. Is this a known issue? The boat seems to try to go straight to where you clicked, and gets stuck on any protrusions in the path. Not a problem, but seemed strange because the a star (or whatever pathfiding) for regular walking works fine.
  22. wow, in the middle of a fight will be tough. I've had cases where the system detects it, and tells you "can't place character" or something to that effect.
  23. btw, related to this, sometimes reviving dead players don't work, and I need to go out and back a couple of times, particularly when there are more than 1 dead player. This is the ipad version.. some sort of bug?
  24. ohh, so that's how it works. I managed to kill the slith anyway, but I kept thinking it was a turn thing. (slith takes a turn, then more slimes come out)
