  1. wow, no portals in the original. must have been insane. Yes, the "go get parts" scenario is very 90's, though it's still used as filler material. I'm not so irritated about the amount of work, just was a bit let down because everything else was awesome 'till this point. It was like reading a book.. then all of a sudden it turned into a formula game. anyway, not to take away from the writing and the game design of other parts of the game. I also played Avadon and it was great.
  2. I'm getting to the release grah-hoth, find the passwords part of the game and can't help but to feel like all the quests are strongly gravitating towards finding things spread out across the map. Finding brooches, passwords, keys.. I mean, the progression was great 'till this point, but it definitely feels like this part is artificially made longer with travel time and lots of searching, which is okay, but not the best gameplay in the world.. eh, but oh well, it's kind of classic rpg anyway, just felt like a sudden change since the parts leading up to it had a good balance of new locations, new people, new enemies, story line, etc..
  3. I seem to notice the efficiency hit more on the priest, esp if I need to use divine fire or group heal a lot. Even on the mage, I remember various attacks being slightly cheaper than priest attacks, but arcane blow is expensive as hell, so it's easy to run out in a boss match. (I'm in normal mode) So I invested in magical efficiency (4 points currently), but it seems like the more expensive spells will drain energy very quickly anyway. I do get a feeling that though it may help, you'd need a significant amount of points for it to make a huge difference.. so I currently have more points for spell craft. In aggregate though, they have the same effect (increasing total damage or cure / charge) I guess it depends on how the probability is calculated for magical efficiency. Maybe one helps more than the other. But spell craft has an absolute effect for total damage/charge, as opposed to efficiency, which effectively extends your charge capacity. at least from what I can see, these should apply for a scenario where you cast 1 spell 'till you run out. spell energy capacity = E, spell damage= d, cost of a particular spell = c level = L for each skill spellcraft: total d = (d * 1.02 * L) * (E / c) (it's 2% gain per level right?) magic efficiency: spell recharge expected value / turn = S total d = d * ((E + (E / c) * S) / c) So we'd need to know how the spell recharge is calculated for magic efficiency to figure out S. Of course, this is just judging from what I can see. Anyone is welcome to correct if my understanding is wrong.
  4. so I guess the damage type is energy, just like spray lightning.
  5. I'm getting killed with lightning a lot. It's the lightning status, and not the energy damage. (like acid) What type of protection helps with lightning? I'm not too sure what the correct strategy is in dealing with it, other than to mass cure. Also, are there player side spells that can do the same? Seems like most higher level enemies resist acid, but would be nice to be able to give them some form of status damage. (since I get killed by it a lot and I'm vengeful, lol) Like a swarm of lancing fungi with a couple of eyeball monsters, those give me lightning like crazy.
  6. hmm, I must have dropped out from the main quest line at some point. I think I missed some cues from the text.
  7. I've been playing for a little bit, just level 15 or so, and finding that it's very easy to fall into locations that are way beyond my level. But considering the old school game design aesthetic, I can understand the enemies not scaling to my xp. I sort of appreciate that. But, at the same time, I find it very difficult to find places that are suited to my level/xp. The only way I can do this is to go to every location until I can effectively fight enemies, and even still, I encounter enemies (groups) that seem way beyond my level. I understand not scaling encounters to player xp, but are there game design cues that I'm missing that would guide me to where I'm supposed to be?
  8. will try, thanks. playing on the couch with the iPad is cool, but the UI gets a bit tedious to navigate.
  9. I started playing on iPad, but want to move over to PC... is there any way to transfer the save file? Are they even compatible?
  10. My guys get wiped out very quickly with multiple corruption spells, is there a good strategy against corruption other than using recuperation gem? I'm level 19, and going with Shima and Natalie, who have about 190 health. But with multiple corruption and a bunch of dogs biting at once, my party can be wiped out in 2 turns after I beat the first pack. (and then 2 more of the big red dogs corruption throwing dogs come out)
  11. I had some trouble going with Shima and Natalie. My trick was to use the teleporting scarab to bring my guy right next to Mortiz'Kri and beat him up. I also had the wand that brings enemies close to me so that helped too. Moritz'Kri runs around too much.
