—Alorael, who acknowledges that having a good shield takes a lot of the danger out of the archer, especially if it's a huge shield. Relatively few people fought with enormous shields in individual combat, though. Probably because they weren't fighting archers and a smaller, more maneuverable shield has an advantage against another swordsman.

    Darth Vader.

Can a guy with a sword survive an archer and kill him? Of course. But consistently? I'm very doubtful.

Depends on how close together they are. An archer loses time everytime they load, aim and then fire an arrow. All the guy with the sword has to do is swing a sword. That being said, I remember something about Roman troops taking cover from oncoming missile attacks by covering their heads with a wall of shields

  3. I'm a bit of a sci fi fan myself, so whenever there's a new Star Trek movie out, I tend to like it. That being said I've watched Next Gen in it's entirety as well as a couple ST movies. Did I mention Stargate?

  4. I feel obligated to post something at this point.

    Seconded.

By the way, the fact that there is a subforum called "Miscellaneous" is a travesty to the old board of legend. I can't believe I used to actually moderate these boards 11 years ago... back when I was 13. No wonder no one likes me... I was a pretty angsty kid.

If you can remeber misc, oh I feel so old

  5. At the moment, although this would be quite a topic I'd be interested in, I've had a long day at work and there's a few posts I'm too tired to read completly: but I'll leave this. Science and physics and stuff has been raised, but what aout the average Joe? Also, I did quite well with maths and science in high school, but I also have a religious leaning. Although being Christian, I've been doing a bit of curiosity research of Islam lately.

  6. It's one of those drinks that's much stronger than it tastes, though, and if you get drunk you're fairly likely to start trying to pillage monasteries.

Since I have longish blonde hair, I might actually look the part.

  7. One thing I really want to try is mead. Another thing I want to try is to make mead. Should be quite enjoyable.

I traveled to Tenerife in December, and bought two bottles of locally produced rum. One is fairly basic, though well known for quality there, and one is honey-rum.

Is that the one in Brisbane by any chance?

(Also, if "full quid" means what I think it does, please refrain from using it. Insulting another member due to your perception of their intelligence is not cool.)

That wasn't the implication, nor was it meant or used as an insult. It was moreso an "are you serious?"

  9. Tequila, tequila, tequila. Specifically, Tarantula Azure or Silver Patron.

Also, I just noticed the Oosquai tag. Clever :)

If I drink tequila, I regret it the next morning. I'm more of a whiskey man, either straight or mixed with soda. I'm partial to Jameson and Maker's Mark, but I also enjoy Jack Daniels, especially Gentleman Jack and Jim Beam. I also like good scotch, especially Glenlivet and Macallan.

Tequila, beer and wine are my pet hates when it comes to alcohol. When I was about 16-18 i was quite partial to bourbon, and occaisonally rum. Now I mostly stick to Jameson, on occaison I'll have rum, or something along those lines.

  10. Sugar out was my betet option. I rarely eat anything sweet, and the only time I'll ever have soft drink i if it contains alcohol. Giving up the alcohol wouldn't be a bad thing though.

  11. I lot all my ID quite a while ago. It' now at the bottom of the ocean. It was slightly irritating for a while being in my early 20's, and getting asked for ID all the time.

  12. We have a similar thing with coal seam gas at the moment. We have a bunch of guys, im not sure who, but they're running around, commandeering small parcels of land for it. Although they "recompensate", since a lot of them are on livestock farms, or are in areas where a lot of livestock are, there are complaints of the gas contaminating local water supplies
