  1. I think that 4 or 5 is my max. After that I lose track. I also wont go beyond 3 members if its create your whole party. In Avernum I used 3 and 2 most of the time. When you create a whole party the focus is more on tactics less on character roleplay. Then again they all are on tactics, heh.

I think what makes a difference is if there is a tangible name and role attached to a member. If the game has set characters with their own personalities then its easier to know whos who and whos good at what.

I still have a incredibly tough time doing 8 man parties. I am not sure it is possible for me to get through.

Has anyone a preference to their party limit and what works for you.

  2. You are probably right. However, Spiders and Sharks are among the scariest things. I wont face a giant spider but put Samurai with highest sword skill against me and I'll find a way to defeat him. Seriously, I'm spiderweb trained as are everyone in this forum. Once you get past these games you gain clout. Once you get past on Torment you gain spiderhood. I'm not close to that level. Not even touching it, heh.

  3. Your missing out on The Quest. Its a single player first person turnbased rpg. It looks like daggerfall only was made now. Its deeply challenging like Geneforge and has an excellent storyline. Everything you do in game has an effect on later on. Ive never seen a game that came so close to good and evil. It throws turning thoughts to you and yet for me it reafirms my belief in good. I've played through it 3 times so far each with a different race. It has Avernums free choice with your skills and stats. So you can use light weapons and anyone of the 7 magic schools, or just be a fighter that pays for his repairs with mercantile skill.

Geneforge, Fallout and the Quest are my favorite of these games. Geneforge and the Quest get most originalty :)

My favorite stat is personality because it gives more dialogue options.

  4. In Geneforge there isn't really good or bad. From each factions viewpoint they are the good ones.

Also I'm usually as good as possible in games, unless being evil is actually fun. I really had fun being evil in Soul Nomad And The World Eaters. Because you can be so evil that even the demons are scared of you.

The interesting note is that big dog lover here so it would seem natural that I ally or support creations. It's harder to see that though as I find it hard to hug a Vlish or Clawbug. In fact thats kind of scary. However, a band of roamers and might come close. Its just hard to see them as nothing more than monsters rather than dogs or pets. I mean if someone brought a pet tarantilla into my house, I would step on it right away whether they liked it or not. An animal or creature like that is not a pet and will bite anyone. You cant tame a bug. Thats just my theory on it.

  5. I hate puzzles in Rpgs. I really do. They are the bane of my existence or something like that. When they put a puzzle into a combat situation that is cool and might even make sense. When they put puzzles in a rpg outside of combat-Hello! Does not make sense. It not only holds the gamer up but it detracts from the game. On top of that if you liked one or even two of them, they get old after that-and real fast.

  6. I am talking of the vile ones to the touch. A character named Dorn in The Sword Coast rpg Baldurs Gate 2 has some of the most ridiculously pointless and ruthless stuff out there. The first quest you get is to slaughter a group of people at a wedding. When the lot is finished, he tells me to slay the bride and new born child. Thats some pretty heavy stuff. I can understand evil and power. I did that before but since when is it that random and pointless. Understand that the people that do that kind of stuff are the 1% of population. There's a lot more people out of jail than in.

  7. I really don't understand it one bit. I dont have a problem with if a character steals or cheats but alot of the things that they expect you to do in some games is just plain terrible! I can get away with some of the Geneforge stuff but there were times when I just kind of felt bad for some creatures. In Geneforge 1 a character was upset because I joined takers and he said something like why do I keep believing in you when you are supposed to be the good one. I always play neutral or good in playthroughs and thus joining the takers was only a facade to get close to you know who. I was still good or neutral.

But really watching some of the things that are on games nowadays (GTAuto). Who would want to play as some piece of garbage like that. You dont have to be good and you can always play neutral.

I am not trying to say that doing that is negative to health but just why do people do it and what do they get out of it? That would be like a game where you can be Emperor Hawthorn and put ambushes on the good guys with Nephars, Dragons and Ian Holm. You kill the good guys and the world gets even worse. Its sick!

  8. If you are primarily using magic and range attacks, then ignore the first two waves of summoned monsters because they can barely hit you and do little damage. You can let them flail at you while you concentrate on the boss.

You know what I did. I cant believe this worked. I started out fighting the first wave and destroying them with melee and magic. From there I wasted some time and finished off the second wave while still fighting the demon lord. By that time he threw a bag of salt at my priest and banished them to the right. It was just my fighter left. Eventually I dont know how this happened but that aoe lightning spell worked wonders and pushed the enemies back into corner on left. My priest got walled in there with 25 enemies !! For some reason the enemies couldnt do almost any damage to my priest who was in the corner sandwiched in like fluffernutter. My fighter snuck into the button area and got into pressing it. Grah hoth was alone while 20 enemies pulled a newark on my priest who was stretching.

Ranick, my fighter, snuck behind grah hoth and poked him in the eye and he followed him into the corner. Ranick worked his blade while hasted and eventually Grah hoth cried because his forces couldnt hurt my priest. Ranick finally executed the duelist's advance (mysterious maneuver) and finished off the cry baby.

Tobarr my priest died at this point as i was just skipping his turns. I resurrected him and pressed the button and got out of there. This time was easier with a party of 2. My party of 3 had more trouble with hawthorn. I guess hawthorn is tougher.

  9. Is there a specific magic damage that works good against Grah Hoth. I tried smite spell and that does pretty good. I came a bit unprepared though. I'm going to come back with a cloak of melee or cloak of spells. Do you think melee will help more. I do 115-460 damage on regular hits with my sword for fighter. My spellcaster doesnt do nearly as much. Problem is I dont know which one would be better. Melee one might be good cause thats 40% damage bonus but thats if I am in range. Spell one might be good but wont do as much damage unless I crit which is high on my spellcaster. My spellcaster causes more criticals than my tank but more damage on tank is better?

Too many choice, heh but I like it.

  10. Yeah this guy definitely doesnt fight fair. But for once an actual fight where the main boss actually requires strategy. Everything was going well with my party of 2. I fought to get to the button on the wall and managed to get my priest into the alcove. Im blasting him and eventually my fighter started to get terrified, charmed and attacked all at once. It was kind of funny actually to see how many creatures on the screen all swarming my fighter doing next to no damage to him while he is stunned, terrified and charmed.

So finally Grah Hoth said that he banished pest and my priest is out of his hiding place. I was actually laughing at this point because something bad is bound to happen. Eventually my priest died from swarms.

I'll try and come back when I got my mental resistance on my fighter.

  11. I would say do nothing. If you do something you are either going to get beat, hurt her. If you care about her rather than you being with her you will know that there will come a time something will happen. If this relationship doesnt go anywhere with her current boyfriend which is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE you are more lucky than you think. You really dont want to hurt her if you care. The rebels that control their fyoras do so with compassion. Wait that doesnt belong there.

Its true guys have to be strong, but being gentle caring, humanistic and realistic is better in today's world. If this was 2000 years ago I would say get up snatch. That's not how hands do things today and might be for the better.

  12. It says in the manual-It is not uncommon to have a party with no melee fighters. The game is just not meant for pure melee unless you attack when it is possible to get into distance. If you make a melee warrior, place some points on both dexterity as well so you can hit with ranged weapon. The shadowalker is good because he can get into melee distance and attack with poison, shadowstep and get out of there stunning them and then pelting with ranged weapons. The game is very strategic and has the most pluses when you use marksman and spellcasters as your damage dealers.

Sevelin is a tank/marksman. With left column his critical chance is high and he gets really good Aoe attack. For blasting Nathalie is very good. Jenell is good for healing and some of her aoes are awesome. She can also be useful with wolves and such. Shima is good but he doesnt get as good as Sevelin does as fast. Later on he is great getting 2 attacks when hit sometimes.

The fighter classes are good for taking the heat and can take a lot of punishment. Shima and Sevelin are hardy chars. When you have 2 spellcasters its good for damage but its harder if you get through if you get hit a lot in long fights.

Both Shima and Sevelin with your shaman should be a good mix of aoe firepower and veracious deadly force with their combat skills. They should protect you well. The good thing about this is that Jeff decided to let you retrain your character/characters right before this fight in the hunting building.

This was a brutal fight and when I first attempted it, It took me 5 tries to get it right. Once you get the tactics it should come naturally to you. But it is never easy. There are still times when I get caught off guard and dont pay attention, the game serves me a nice warm dish of defeat. But if it didnt beat me for slacking off, I shouldnt be allowed to get further.

  13. Drinking booze makes you psychotic, see pictures of Sarah Silverman at a comedy club, dangerously angry, see images of bugs being reborn and other weird stuff. Best to be avoided if you ask me. Oh...you referred to Avernum 1st Trilogy? I think it just makes your character uncoordinated and prone to wiles.

  14. Done and I hope this helps. The library's usefulness was about a 4 out of 10 until recently. My printer is gone and I always used to purchase the hintbooks for spiderweb games. The hint books dont get mailed anymore so I can either wait 1 hour for crappy printer at parents to print it out; or can go to library and print there while surfing the net. Yeah, the library pretty much rocks now. Plus they just released some new movies we can rent there too so its pretty clutch.

  15. I liked avadon 2. It was more fun than the first. The tactics improved. I learned the system a little bit better. I only have one regret: The last part where you run towards foresight fort. I thought that the respawning enemies was ridiculous. I had a tough time and spent almost an hour 10 minutes trying to run through and respawn party. Jeff did that with Hawthorn in Avernum. I avoid that quest. I prefer Geneforge where you dont get locked into that. Otherwise was a great game. Better than first. I especially liked Miranda fight. It was very unique and havent seen that one before. I was hoping that Miranda just became main bad guy oh well.

If and when replay, I am giving main character shadowalker and teleport stone. Problem solved :)
