That's too bad. I am currently loving Avernum 4 right now and I didn't know that 5 and 6 weren't that good.

Most people actually think that A4 was the weakest game among those three, they are all very good games overall so nothing to worry about for you.

Avernum 4 stores it's save games in the installed Avernum 4 directory itself, A5 and later games store them in the documents folder, this could be it. (That's for the windows XP normal version though, I have no idea about steam.)

Clawbugs can survive pretty long in G5, you can get them very early too.

Basically depends on whether you can handle the First Trilogies engine, I personally find it very crude and uncomfortable after playing A4,5 and 6, although I had no such troubles before playing them .

It's a good book, except that you have to take the last chapter or so with a grain of salt. Hawking explains some stuff there that essentially nobody but he believes in, but he still gives the impression that it's as well accepted as the stuff in the previous chapters.

Nah, Pyororoamers are pretty much useless. Among the unstable creations, the Corrupted Thahd and Shock Trall in G5 are really good for certain fights, among the rest I don't think I've ever needed the unstable vlishes, kyshakks and Wingbolt varieties however do huge damage and the kyshakks do a big boom on dying so according to situation they can sometime be useful.

Right now I'm with G5 for the first time and I was expecting for Mehken to stay a little longer...

You shouldn't really take her though, turning her in gives a big reward.

You can get Mehken for the initial part of the game in G5, she has a bit of personality too.

I think that's the wheel you need, you would have probably got a different message the first time you opened it which you probably ignored.

There's no side entrance, with the boat you go to the place south of Cotra, fight a few Golems, turn the wheel and then you have to go all the way back to the Mertis and use the initial entrance you found.

In the earlier games an agent, In G4 and G5 an Agent/Infiltrator or a Servile. Guardians/Warriors can kinda do singleton too but it is rather tough and possibly annoying.

You have to first try to take the people camped outside Dranlon to Silvar, in the middle of the journey you will be attacked by the raiders, their leader drops an amulet that you can use for safe travel through chitrach cave, also the tunnel taking you to the raiders does not appear unless the above has hapened.

Also it has a LOT of side quests, so you will enjoy it.
