  1. Even though the odds are against me, i still have 1 advantage that a party of four doesnt have. That is that i can level farm my character with side quests until he is more than able to go against a normally impossible opponent. This char gains exp extremely fast, ill come back when im ready. I did this in baldurs gate 1 and it worked, it might just work here too.
  2. Im sorry if i wasnt clear before. I want to solo this game or a avernum game, even if its on easy. Ive always wanted to do it. The only ones i could possibly want to do it for would be 4, 5 or 6 as the older ones are a little too retro. I beat avernum 4, but still really wanted to solo one of these games. Would 4 be any more "forgiving" than 5?
  3. I cant cast acid spray and daze, im a priest. I dont have any wizard spells. I do have haste potions but he slows me down and gets to attack me twice with firebolts, summoning monsters to swarm me. This is even harder than geneforge 1, which is hard to imagine almost. Edit-I use battle discipline but i dont do enough damage. I have 10 bow skill, 5 sharpshooter skill, bless, protection and haste and still so hard. The difficulty change didnt make a difference either. Normal is the same as easy it seems.
  4. Im having a lot of trouble just fighting the regular mages in avernum 5 near hrickis layer. The apprentices are even beating me using cheap tactics, slowing my character when he has haste. My archer/priest character should be killing these weaklings in almost no shots. Why do mages of all people, have such obscene life? It makes no sense.

Its singly one of the most powerful spells and you get it at lvl 3 i believe. Each level of priest you gain, the undead grow stronger. The undead in that game are extremely powerful and can tank better than your party sometimes as you dont need to worry about them if they die. I usually mix cleric of mask (sneaky), with rogue for a nefarious combo.
  6. Ok, just a minor relapse. Im playing a bow user, and the battle disciplines dont appear to be working. I have a skill of 6 for bows and thats it for weapons skill. Shouldnt the first skill be given to me? It states in the manual that bow users can use the battle disciplines.

I am enjoying the Avadon demo, but I'm worried that the game will take the turn that Avernum 5 did and lump me into quest blocks. I enjoyed the demo of the game too. However, I found that as time went on, although the experience of the game was ok, the skill trees, the linear boss battles and the fact that i couldnt get to certain areas without someone's approval, crucified the game for me. I dont mind if a game is linear, but when i have to ask permission to get to a new area, something to be improved. Along with the boss battles being obscene as there is a set way to defeat the major bosses. That i dont like either. Bosses should always have more than one way of being defeated. I still gave the game an 8/10 which is high. Just dont think that it was one of the better spiderweb games.
  8. Im probably going to stick with melee for the most part of this hybrid build as I dont think ranged weapons will last with the priest build if i get surrounded.

Post #584 I dont know, ive always found almost all of my roleplaying games to be much better solo. Even icewind dale 2 was much more exiting with my rogue/cleric as the only guy there. When i play with a team, there is always the weakest link, and that link causes the rest of the team to fall because of losing them weakening you until you lose. With 1 guy as the team, you automatically only have to plot how he's going to react and plot whether you can or cannot win this battle. Thats probably why i like the geneforge series a bit more.
  10. Oh cool. So thrown weapons are better now than bows.
  11. What is an anama priest/tank character? And can an archer/priest manage? I kinda want to try that one a bit more as ive played melee for quite a few spiderweb games.
  12. I managed to beat a4 and was not very impressed with the storyline as much as i thought. I was hoping it would be more "epic", but hey it was a fair experience. I read somewhere that a5 is a much better improvement for the later series. I was wondering about that actually. I downloaded the demo and checked it out a bit, it seems like this battle discipline system is pretty cool. The ap point system is very much like avadon too. I was wondering a few things. I already figured out that a4 is unsoloable, however, with the battle disciplines, would you be able to solo a5 with a character. I was thinking of maybe using either- A-Solo Fighter/Priest that buffs the **** out of his melee attacks and anihilates the foes. or B-Solo Archer/Priest that follows the way of one shot, one kill, buffing herself using battle disciplines and the occasional spell and heal. Would something along either of those be effective to solo. I hope either one could as the storyline for a5 is much better than the previous.

No, I meant making bows as my attack when i am far away and can pick off some low enemies, when they close in, my already more than decent melee skill will take care of them. I am only suggesting this because my thief character has a tough time keeping up with my slith polearm user who romps around destroying almost anything. Thieves are essentially useless fighters in this game, unless i am playing it differently. I might need more defensive skills.
  14. Well, im glad it challenges me, though my char is lvl 13 and will switch her focus to bows, will that really hurt me? I doubt it will as ranged weapons have such a low cost for skill points. I can probably get to 8 skill with bows in 5 or 6 levels.
  15. jeez, the difficulty is warped. First its easy, then ridiculously hard, then middle. It doesnt seem to make up its mind. And to top it all off, i learned the hard way that melee is broken in a4. The point cost for skills is 4 at start, whereas ranged weapons is 2, and magic is 4 or 5. I would say now that i am at the honeycomb caves, that i might have to switch over to bows as melee is useless and more than 1 melee character is unneeded. Hopefully when i get done with avernum 4, 5 at least remedies this problem. As it stands in this game, Magic reigns supreme, then followed by ranged weapons like bows, (thrown if you can carry them), and last goes to melee. I dont know why jeff did that.
  16. Cool, i thought that was what he meant to do. I played divine divinty which said something similar-fight monsters at low levels, at higher levels, solve quests. Makes sense.
  17. I am currently in the city cotra and have been doing many quests to destroy bandits all throughout that lower right region. I dont know if i am moving too slow through the game, but i am getting barely any experience, maybe 4 per enemy which isnt very good. My parties levels are 12 and 11 range. Should i move faster through the game as i am not gaining enough exp?
  18. -So which would make more sense. Im thinking that good constitution would make the most sense as it gives 10% bonus to physical, fire, energy, and poison and magic attacks. Whereas tough hide just gives 10% to melee. Fast on feet might be good too though cause it gives 10% bonus to be hit and 1 extra ap point. To be honest though, the way i see fast on feet and quick strike is this-Fast on feet is almost useless compared to quick strike as you can actually improve the chances of getting an extra 1 or 2 ap on quick strike whereas fast on feet you cannot. -An extra 1 or 2 ap (every once in a while) is useless in my opinion as it cannot be counted on. As soon as it is 50/50 and up, then it can somewhat be relied on. I might just go with the constitution one, is there a hard cap on physical resistances and resistance in general?
  19. im not sure if i should restart my rogue as i picked strong willpower as my trait for my rogue. I have yet to have noticed anything great from this. I probably should have picked fast on feet or nimble fingers. Nimble fingers would probably be the one i picked to save skill points and not have to worry about it.
  20. Thanks for that. Im not brave enough to go on torment anyway. I probably should have chosen nimble fingers as a trait instead of strong willpower for my rogue, but aw well. I wanted to make him a fighter that wouldnt succumb to the mental influence of mages but as im reading the posts, besides the almost unfair divine touch, fast on feet and the others are better choices.
  21. I have been almost finished with the demo and am awaiting my order. The only thing that puzzles me is that i have been sinking points into skills like dex and defense for my rogue character and i have to report they do nothing. My rogue character gets hit just as much as my other characters which doesnt make sense as i have been sinking points into those skills. Is there something i am missing about defensive characters cause it is kind of annoying. I figured that i should have at least one character that doesnt get hit all the time. Makes no sense.
  22. Thanks, i actually just noticed it. Now i am just waiting for the number to be sent to my email.
  23. I want to purchase avernum 4, but my bank is revising my current debit card. I will get it in a day or 2. Can i pay by paypal, i have a good score on that account.
  24. When you say limited in number do you mean that there are only set packs of each like 6 javelins you can use to attack and after the 6th is used, they are gone? Are there any thrown weapons (razordisks?) that arent limited in number. Edit-I'd like to use thrown weapons a bit and have more focus in melee. That was how i played my agent in geneforge 1, meleee/ranger (magic). Im still not sure.
  25. I have been doing a very interesting party so far. I have a slith tank with spears and high damage absorbing abilities, My human shaman that can cast both priest and mage spells and swing a sword if he needs to. Those two characters are set and good, however, i also have a character that is a custom made char that is closest to a thief. However, i am starting to question whether i should switch from mastery with swords and finesse and add some ranged capabilities. I already have a tank and a spellslinger, i figure why not have a character that can fight up close a bit, and throw shurikens or shoot arrows when he cant get up close. Would that really be too much of the jack of all trades mentality and could i do it, or should i just stick with a thief/finesse fighter approach?
