  1. Having played through the whole damn game on torment, i didn't want to lower the diff level. Although, according to you guys, it doesn't really matter. So I balanced things a little. I dropped the stats on the souljar script, he's lvl 28, i dropped them to 10, got rid of some resistances (jenell the shaman promptly took her proper place in a side room taking them down with her pet drake.) They were still pretty hard to kill, but it was manageable to do it with Nathalie and tankman helping me out (i played as shadowwalker) and shima in the other side room. The fight could be left how it is if there was a limit on the soul jars. 4 would be adequate. Enough to show he knows what he's doing and explain why everyone else got their ass kicked. How much soul does redbeard have anyway? last time I checked, he was pretty soulless, not fricken Ray Charles. btw jeff, if you're reading this, I resent him dying from a heart attack. I didn't just spend all day hacking at his face for him to go out because he didn't do enough cardio. It was pretty obvious for me that there would be a fight, reason for me to do the character quests and ensure loyalty for myself, a very much in character thing to do, me playing as a power-hungry shadowwalker that wants avadon for himself, because of both ego and morals. The only quest i actually had moral qualms about was shima's. seemed to me like redbeard got that one right, politically speaking. That and not killing the duke. I figured sparing him would force him to side with me as keeper. no such luck, bastard kept cozying up to the tawons. Only regret from this playthrough. while i'm at it, did anyone else notice similarities between the nations of avadon and real cultures? The Kva totally had an ancient israel vibe going on. The Tawon empire reminds me of present-day russia. I could go on. peace

  4. Oh yeah, the darkside loyalists, did anyone finish the game without killing them? I had a feeling that the non-intervention of the empire in upper or lower avernum had something to do with this, and that they might pull an assassination attempt at some point
  5. The spiders didn't even notice when i stole the egg... bug?
  6. Yeah, gladwell's quests are probably the most influential, and the most beneficial to avernum, if you ask me. Melanchion's quests are also very important, there's 4, two of them define northern avernum, one defines the abyss, and the other one I can't remember what it was what you do with the abyss is secondary but still influential. Gladwell and Melanchion will both have quests for you here, and both will influence the ending of the abyss. You can't kill starrus, this is a big big big spoiler so if you're just trying to see what options you have don't read it Click to reveal.. Gladwell can. If you do all his missions, he'll will the power struggle vs starrus easily, if you don't he'll lose. I say he's better for avernum because he can do a much better job of protecting avernum The fang clan is minor, but yes.
  7. nope, feel good? how do you go about failing anyway, did your spec ops team get whacked or something?
  8. No, that's not what happens. If you do ALL the gladwell missions, he's the only one strong enough to counterbalance the dragon, and he replaces the king as the ruler of avernum. if you dont do all his quests then when he tries to take over he gets slapped. Did you get erika's tower for him? if not, that's what's missing (in addition to whichever mission you may have not done before that) my favourite ending, kill melanchion and let gladwell rule unchallenged
  9. heh, I actually did get to the eyebeast, but it was a bug. my party was all beat up, and his summons were still around, so i ran in there to get out of combat and revive them, when they came back for my tasty rump, i had to do it again, and whoops, I went out of combat on top of the platform i had enough time to regroup and heal etc, so it wasn't too hard. the into combat/out of combat exploit has been around since A1, back when people used it to get into motrax's horde
  10. i thought it was kind of funny that, while melanchion was hostile, his worshippers weren't, so when he does the first fireblast thingy, he kills almost all of his dudes, even though they're all buffed cause of me but yeah, one wonderful spell for this situation is the third cloak, the one that protects you against the elements, and dressing for the occasion, meaning maxing out (90% is max) fire resistance with items/the resistance skill. His melee attacks are suprisingly weak, his mom hits harder than he does
  11. really? which one are those? i took my first hit pretty early in the game (the golem quest) so I must not have noticed.
  12. yeah, i'm still curious about what happens if you don't clean out the hideout, do they eventually pull off the assassination and attack the weak, gladwell-less avernum? or do they just die off?
  13. yes, this pissed me off too, but to answer your question, the one thing that really makes it impossible for you to just bum-rush him mindlessly is the death curse: without the basins in the north to cure it, no matter how resistant you were to him, you'd take something like 6k damage when the death curse takes its toll. going down is not an option because the worms respawn and i assume that since you aren't finishing the anvil quest you can't fight 12 worms and the haakai at the same time trust me, I tried
  14. you can try to kill melanchion. that was pretty hard.
  15. what about summoning spells? are those worth upgrading? it kinda pissed me off when summon aid gave me a fricken' worg, but then again, sometime's I'd get a pustulant zombie.. I always bought the highest levels of all spells for my designated mage/priest.
  16. i'm kind of curious now.. it's way too late for me to change these, but what happens if you don't eliminate tenevra? the scourge? what happens if you leave both alive? do they both invade you if you leave them alone, but cancel each other out if you don't? it's exam season, i don't have time for another replay..
  17. you can't kill the king i greased the dude in one hit, didn't even get a popup text, he just crumpled up like the tutorial rats
  18. Click to reveal.. well, this is disappointing, the king stays in power and nothing else changes. i suspect avernum is stronger with gladwell, but that's just me. there it is
  19. damn you randomizer, i just finished those are the same events I have but yeah, that's what happens. i'm gonna take that save and kill gladwell now and see what happens. btw, i just noticed, the variables that change the game, if I kill gladwell now, i will have murdered everybody i can ... hmm, you think I can kill the king? this demands investigation... does anyone know what happens if you kill the scourge but not tenevra? IE, can I trade the northern neighbor from slith to vahnatai? seems like a superior outcome, unless they decide to fight gladwell
  20. hmm.. now that I think about it, I wonder what happens if you kill melanchion and not gladwell, removing the problem gladwell solves. does he take power by force?.. I must investigate. anyone have a problem with me posting the answer here?
  21. i just finished it, and i helped gladwell all the way and didn't kill him. I must say, i was pretty satisfied that I did. He may be a manipulative [censored], but I wouldn't want avernum paying tribute to melanchion. screw that.
  22. I used to have trouble with money, then I figured out how to edit the item file to make stuff i have worth 30000 gold. cheating? definitely. should i just use the editor instead of buying skills off trainers? maybe, considering i have them all (and the list of how to get them, yay forums). was it fun figuring out how to do that? hell yes
  23. oh yeah, i remember that. so, i just went up to erika's tower from the loyalist hideout. the golems got all of my party except for my fighter. and i just soloed the haakai. with broken demonslayer. take that, captain i can't solo a haakai with demonslayer woot (oh yeah, i didn't have to reload) (yes, i know the tower colony's haakai was far superior, let me have my moment )
  24. i dunno, wouldn't have grah-hoth pulled that little trick on the original band? something in the back of my mind tells me demonslayer has been broken before, but its probably just all the times it's been lost
  25. I'm gonna try not to rant and just ask if i can get my demonslayer fixed. but GODDAMN! what is WRONG with avernite adventurers these days? seriously, a group gets the orb of thralni, fricken flies up the river and doesn't even make it to northern avernum, and somehow manage to BREAK THE EFFING ORB OF THRALNI IN THE PROCESS!... jesus. then there's an [censored] who tries to solo a haakai and fails miserably... while wielding demonslayer.. i mean come ON man, i had to kill the fricken shadow, impaler AND manburner to be made a captain, what the HELL did YOU do to get there? play solitaire all day at the food depot? anyway, avernum ain't what it used to be, is it? i guess that's the point of A6.. can I get demonslayer fixed or do I have to run around with a 1-3 demonbane for the rest of the game? I tried that craftsman by the tower of magi but he cant do jack, there isn't even a dialogue option for it.
