  1. I know you need to be logged in as an administrator to install most programs in Vista.

Try that as well and see whether it works.

On the other hand, I got that same error a lot when my old XP computer was failing, it could mean the network card is not working properly.

Can you download from other sites on the internet, or is the problem just with Spiderweb's site?

  2. Do you play games with lots of programs running?

Like internet, instant messaging, music player, etc? You could try closing all programs you don't need open and try the game then.

I know on my previous XP computer, whenever I ran Firefox it would sometimes run at 100% CPU Usage, which would make the computer very slow.

That's funny, I have Windows Vista and I install all my programs there and I never have a problem.

Maybe you're doing something wrong? tongue

I agree, that would be very cool. To see how the wizards drove back the monsters and created the moss. Maybe see the Castle under construction?

Dual wielding would be cool, interested to see how that works. I love the added functionality of the map, so useful. And mousing over items to see information? That is great!

Wait, Exile 2 and not Avernum 2? Did something happen in Exile that didn't happen in the remake? I wonder if this points to war between the Empire and the Avernites....

This game sounds awesome, and I can't wait to see screenshots. If Spiderweb Software had a pre-ordering system, I would have ordered it already. smile
  5. Further to reinstalling the game, make sure you click on the game shortcut and change the compatibility mode to Windows XP.

Also, it might help to run the game under an administrator logon.

  6. I had the same problem on my Vista computer when I played Avernum.

    1. Right click on the game shortcut

    2. Select Properties on the pop-up menu

    3. Select the Compatibility tab

    4. Check off the box marked "Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for" and select Windows XP from the dropdown menu.

    5. Hit ok and you're good to go.

Let me know whether it works!

Note you will probably have to do this for all three of the games.

  7. I don't know whether this is going to stay the most annoying area for me, given as I've only played G1 (not finished yet) but I'm going through the Mines sections right now, and oh my god I hate pylons.

Plus there's lava blocks that burn my party horribly. And the pylons spew acid/poison damage at you.

Trying to keep my creations and me alive is pretty hard, I have to cast heal and I'm using up curing pods like crazy.

Methinks I should have finished the whole bottom area before trying to attempt to get through the mountains. frown

  8. I would definitely try all three of them, it's not like it will cost you extra since you have them on CD.

The quest logs for A2 and A3 definitely make the games better in my opinion!

The Avernum games definitely have a lot of talking to do, and lots of running around all over the map.

But there is also lots of fighting. smile

  9. Why would you restart your computer?

Like Ishad Nha said, if you bring up the Task Manager you can shut down BoA from there.

On Vista you still push Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

  10. Well I tried the Triple Valley scenario last night and it worked fine on my computer.

The only bug that occurs is when a dialog box pops up it minimizes right away, leaving me clicking on my screen and having no clue why the game isn't working.

I have to push the START key to get the Windows Taskbar back, which shows me that BoA has two open windows at which point I can click on the dialog box and read what it says.

But no hassles with the Data Execution Prevention, so I really don't know what the problem is with your computer Ackrovan. frown

Like I said, just try reinstalling BoA and maybe that will fix the problem.

Also, I am logged into my computer as an administrator, is that what you are doing? Or if you're not, could you?

  11. Well, try reinstalling BoA, in case a crucial file got deleted.

If you have the game on CD then your copy will still be registered, if not then save your registration file (whatever that is).

I'll check The Triple Valley scenario later on tonight and report back.

  12. If you've added BoA to the list that Data Execution Prevention doesn't monitor and it still doesn't work than I don't know what to tell you.

I have Windows Vista as well and it works fine for me.

I would try reinstalling BoA in case the DEP deleted a file or blocked a file somehow before it was told to not monitor it.

Did your antivirus program pop up any warnings about BoA or try to block it somehow?
