  1. The creature in that Corruption screen . . . I can't remember what they're called, but I remember killing a decent number of them in Geneforge 5. The Wyldrylm Rebel Lands are probably related to those Wyldrylm idiots from Jenell's companion quest. The ones that are disgruntled as hell because they wanted to reap all the benefits of being a part of the Pact without actually having to pay anything in return. (Such as being angry that they can't force people traveling the free roads to pay a toll.) If so . . . I'd kind of enjoy crushing them. I'd assume there's at least one other section marked as being in rebel hands over in Kellemderiel. Either Duke Gryfyn or his followers, if he was killed, were supposed to be encouraging Kellemderiel to leave the Pact. According to Avadon's ending, at least some people agreed with what they were saying.
  2. Yeah. It's really speculation for the sake of speculation . . . Based on nothing more than me thinking Nathalie develops a crush on you if you never tell her to take her ambition and shove it. *shrugs* If someone is THAT desperate for romance, with the scripting system of Jeff's games, you could just insert your own if you wanted to.
  3. I hope we don't have to see Zethron again. If I've learned anything about Avadon dragons, it's that every single one of them must die. Though I don't imagine the Pact would actually do that . . . It seemed to me that the majority of their enemies only continue to exist because the Pact needs Farlanders to hate, because that's the only thing keeping the Pact together. Hence that speech where Redbeard refuses to ever accept anyone else joining the Pact, no matter how genuine. The one where he gives the hypothetical scenario of a Khemmerian leader willing to secede from Khemmeria and rejoin the Wyldrylm. (The Pact seems like it could easily divide the entire continent between it's members . . . But then it's only remaining enemies would be each other.) Also . . . I'm fully expecting to hate the Wyldrylm if the people you meet in A1 that call that place home are any indication of what it's like. (Hell, Jenell was the companion I liked the least. Favorite? Probably Shima.)
  4. Just felt like seeing what some of the others on these forums thought about how many of the things you could actually influence in Avadon will be canon for Avadon 2. I'm already going to assume that the optional boss fights never happened . . . Which means we'll probably be seeing something of the demon Belloch and the dragon Zephyrine. (We already know Redbeard wasn't killed.) I'm hoping that Dorhal Stead didn't get wiped out. I think it's probable that Duke Gryfyn was spared, just to serve as an enemy to a loyalist in A2 . . . Even if that makes it more than likely that the PC tried and failed to kill Redbeard. While I'm personally hoping that the PC was loyal and managed to convince the others to stay loyal . . . I'm pretty much prepared to find out the entire party was killed for defying Redbeard. Although it would be interesting if the PC's companions managed to get away, and you get to meet them as important rebels that have sworn to avenge the PC of A1. (I just want to see them again.) A big part of why I don't think the PC stayed loyal is the simple fact that I don't think the PC of any Spiderweb game has shown up for any of the sequels. I personally wouldn't mind Jeff making up an NPC to represent A1's PC. Hell, I actually think it would be pretty cool as long as they were a powerful enemy. (If you decided to fight them, naturally.) ---------------------- And just on a tangent . . . I can't help but wonder if A2 might have the first attempts at romance in a Spiderweb game. I was probably reading way too into it, but I swear it felt to me that, so long as you're supportive of her, Nathalie was developing feelings for the PC. She'll embrace you when you find her during her companion quest, at one point you can have random chatter with her that involves her taking your arm as you enjoy a pleasant stroll whilst looking for things to kill, and where the other companions tend to stay loyal to you by saying you and them are doing the right thing . . . Nathalie says she doesn't care what you do, she'll follow you no matter what.
  5. Every now and then there will be a mention of the Shapers making many of their Creations sterile. Really, the only reason you have swarms of Rogues to fight is because every game has at least one group that's deliberately filling areas with them. (If not breeding capable Creations than at the very least a Spawner or two.) As for an enemy breeding capturing a couple of fertile, combat Creation and using them to breed an army . . . That might be tricky. While there really isn't anything that says this couldn't have changed between G1 and G5, and this really only covers the known Creations as of G1 . . . It seems to be extraordinarily difficult to do what you suggested. If you don't remember, the Obeyers in Pentil are explicitly trying to capture Rogues and make them tame. The person in charge of this says that the only Creation that they have ever been able to make tame again is the Fyora. Again, it's not necessarily concrete or anything, but that has lead me to believe that Fyoras are usually pretty damn stable. This doesn't surprise me though. Especially in light of the intro and outro scenes for G2, with that tiny little Fyora. While dogs apparently exist, and Outsiders might keep dogs around as pets . . . I've tended to think the Shapers use Fyoras as their equivalent to pet dogs.
  6. I should have been more clear. I wasn't saying that every single Creation you encounter in the games was made from modifying some pre-existing animal. Just that the origin of the Creation itself can be traced back to some form of native wildlife. The first Fyoras came about from the manipulation of some kind of lizard, but once they were made they don't have to modify lizards anymore to get Fyoras. They just make new Fyoras from scratch. I'm sorry if I was too vague or confusing about that. --------------------- As for horses . . . I meant the idea of a riding animal. I don't think the Shapers have anything they can use to ride or as some form of cavalry. As far as I can tell, all travel is by foot or by boat. As a quick aside . . . Ornks are supposed to be some kind of Pig-Cow Hybrid, right? That's how I've always thought of them but i just wanted to confirm if others saw them that way too.
  7. Discussion of game mechanics? Not on my watch. For this thread I want to talk about the life that isn't a result of Shaper shenanigans. We know that all Creations are created from SOMETHING. Indeterminate lizards for most of the fire creations. A lot of the battle creations apparently use humanoid stock but might also have been made by playing with apes, serviles, or even humans from a time before the Shapers said using Shaping on humans was bad. Clawbugs are just scorpions but bigger. Vlish . . . Maybe they started with a squid? No clue on the Glaahks. Or the Roamers to be honest. Atila from some sort of worm. Then the Wingbolt when they further modified the Artila and tossed in some bat features. The point is . . . All Creations are ultimately just a "normal" plant or animal that the Shapers tweaked. As I said, this we already know. What I was curious about is just how much do we know about the life that was native to Terrestia before the Shapers came to power. I'd already assume they don't have, for example, horses. I don't believe they have dogs or cats either. (Wild or domesticated.) I mean, maybe they had something like them at some point but Creations drove them into extinction? Maybe the Shapers themselves did, because making a new form of loyal being was easier than domesticating pre-existing animals? Anyways . . . Has it ever been hashed out what kind of non-Creation wildlife exists in Terrestia that we might be able to recognize? Has Jeff ever weighed in on this. Really, the main reason I'm asking is I actually want to do a little bit of writing. Specifically, something involving a Shaper visiting another land. So I'm trying to figure out what kind of things would make a Shaper ask "What the [censored] is that?" as well as what kind of things would make a Shaper ask "You have these too?" Maybe see some horses and think "Why didn't we think of that?"
  8. Alright. I sincerely hope this doesn't take any of the wind out of Chessrook44's sails . . . Especially as he's doing a video LP while I did a screenshot LP. (We even started at around the same time. January.) Anyways . . . I recently completed an LP of all 5 of the Geneforge games. I would now like to share it with you. During the LP, I let others decide what factions to side with throughout the series. I'll go ahead and list them out now. G1: Obeyer G2: Shaper G3: Shaper G4: Rebel G5: Alwan I should also warn you . . . I curse . . . A lot. So be prepared for that if you decide to check it out. Oh, and I hadn't played any of the games in the series for years. So I'm sure there were be plenty of misremembered details whenever I started going on about something pertaining to a faction I didn't side with. Without further ado . . . Please enjoy. http://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/lets-play-geneforge.246275/ ----------------------- Oh, and how crazy is it that I've been a member of the Spiderweb forums since 2007, and according to my profile this is only the 3rd time I have ever posted?
  9. I'm gonna do my own thing. I'm mostly concerned with what the various factions might me. Obviously there will be the big two. Shapers and Rebels. The next two are from my own ideas as to who is "good" and who is "evil". I'll be making this judgement on which faction can better care for those that comprise it. In this way I deem the Shapers good because their controls and regulations are better for the world in the long run. The Rebels are evil because of the indiscriminate destruction, intentional or otherwise, they're responsible for. I then continue with the idea of a sub-faction. If the Shapers are good, the alternative will likely be evil. So the evil Shapers would mean the return of the Barzites. If the Rebels are evil, what would be good Rebels? The return of the Awakened. Now we come to the 5th faction. There are two possibilities. First up is the Trakovites. If the ending where you create a horrible stalemate is canon, I can easily see them getting the neccesary support to be a game winning faction. It also helps you play an important role. You may not sigle-handedly win the war but you can still break the stalemate in a way that guarantees your faction's armies can win. My second idea. The Sholai. I could see them slowly but surely getting hold of Shaper texts and whatnot over the many years that have passed in-game. And, the Shaper-Rebellion War would severely weaken the Shaper lands but not the Sholai lands. It'd certainly be interesting if they decided to launch a full scale invasion. I havn't put much thought into the idea of lesser, non-game winning factions but it's got me interested. Anyone agree with my guesses? Disagree? And if there's already a thead discussing possible factions, I apologize.
  10. Personally I think interesting things could be done with weather effects. Say it starts raining while you're exploring an area. That opens up some possibilities as far as damage is concerned. Usin fre or acid aacks would result in reduced damage. Of course ice and lightning could do greater damage. It could even give "fun" areas. Areas where it always rains and the enemies are all highly resistant to lightning and ice. heyu'll wish o put more skill points in your melee abilities. Thus making characters sutied to slicing and dicing more useful.
