  1. I really want to edit in the Girdle of Might. I swear to god I never sold it, because I was waiting to get it, but I have been to the place where allegedly it was supposed to be, and it isn't.

  3. "Blades of Geneforge". B.O.G. *snickers*
  4. Oh I love having a character with Nimble Fingers and high Tool Use. I get them up to 10 asap at the start of the game. Then keep adding. There are quite a few Level 16 doors in the early stages. Then the next useful threshold is Level 20. By then, you hopefully have the +1 Tool Use chain. Now I need Level 25, even 28, for the more recent doors. I also have the Tinker's Gloves, so that helps get another +2. I love the click of unlocking a door. I could hear that sound all day.

  6. Both priests and mages are so useful in Avernum. High level priest healing spells are just vital as is Repel Spirit - but in this game you really need Dispel Barrier, a high level mage spell, as well (not to mention all the great offensive stuff). I recommend getting one of each, and giving your priest a level of mage spells, so they can cheaply cast Bolt of Fire (2 energy, as opposite to Smite, which is 8). Alternatively you could have the priest do some archery for you, but it makes more sense to me that they have Bolt of Fire at least.

I just went and got it after the first play through. I'd rather wear nice light chain or magic leather than bother with a heavy, expensive, bulky breastplate.
  8. Opalias: some of the more basic herbs are used for complicated potion recipes later on. I'd hang on to them for now.
  9. Generally speaking, there is rarely anyone selling stuff that is better than what you could otherwise find at the same stage in the game. The exception might be the guy who charges you 1000 to make you a client, who then makes Warrior's Cloaks and Runed Helms and stuff (which you won't find by that stage, nor ever in multiple quantities). Buy a Fine/Blessed/Steel anything is never worth it. Nor having Blessed stuff made. So much better to get stat-enhancing gear, and especially acid/poison weapons.
  10. Stuff to keep in bulk: Fine leather Fine steel Gold bars Focus crystals Mandrake Graymold Emeralds Wine Bags of meal Chitrach claws Icy geodes Swamp nodules Molten lava lumps I would also horde potions - you really can get by without them for much of the game, but Energy potions become much more useful later on.
  11. Oh yeah - don't forget, with some Fine Leather and stuff you can get: Runed Helm Warrior's Cloak Enchanter's Robe Treated Leather made up for you. Oh - and I just found that Oliver, in Dharmon, is selling: Cap of Thoughts (+3% Armour, +1 Magery, +1 Magical Efficiency) Airy Vambraces (+4%, +5% Stun, =5% hit, +1 Gym, +2 Quick Strike) Thrusting Gauntlets (+4% Armour, +1 Blademaster, +1 Lethal Blow) Girdle of Might (+2 Strength) Aranea Silk Tunic (+6% Armour, +8% Fire Resistance) and Haldeman, in Dharmon, is selling: Archer's Cloak (+3% Armour, +2 Bows, +2 Missiles, +1 Quick Action) Spectre Robe (+10% Armour, +5% Energy, +20% Stun, +20% Mind, -4% Fire)
  12. Thuryl - that's sort of what must have happened. One character is the pre-configured mage, the other is a priest whom I gave one level of mage spells to during character creation. The priest - though she already had one level - was able to buy two more. The mage was only allowed to buy one more. So does anyone know where any places are to learn more Firebolt (ie tomes?)
  13. No - no one was unconscious, ever. I can't buy any more Firebolt. Which is odd, because I thought you were allowed to buy +2 levels of every spell, even if you had already found a couple of levels. And presumably my Mage started off with one level, so I'm not quite sure what's happened. If anyone knows where the Firebolt spellbooks are located, it would be very useful.
  14. Not sure how this happened, but my Priest has Level 3 Firebolt, but my Mage only Level 2. Anyone know where improve Firebolt tomes are?
  15. It seems that Avernum 4 presents more moral dilemmas than ever before, in terms of (friendly-ish) people and things that you have to kill to finish quests: 1. Crain Poor guy, but how else to finish the quest without killing him off? An option to lie to Thorious and pick up the reward would be nice. 2. Non-hostile Araneas How else to get that Nullity shield and a Terror upgrade without full-on murder? Poor little spiders. They may not have been GIFTS, but they were very quiet and peaceful. 3. Cerebrous worm It wasn't his fault he was weird. Or that he was an experiment gone wrong. Such a lovely, gentle creature: but he still had to be slaughtered to clear a quest. 4. Gremlin The last of his clan. Killing him felt almost like genocide. 5. Dharmon mine mage No way to sneak past him without making him mad, but the stuff down his mine is just too juicy to ignore - if only you didn't have to kill him when you claim-jump him.

  17. Hmm... this could all be worth its own thread.

I feel like I'm generating bad karmic energy on principle or something. The funny thing is, when I beta-tested, I don't remember having to kill them, but I think I remember finding that spell room. So either my memory is really bad, or perhaps he did change something? Probably the former
  19. There's another Nullity Shield on an Aranea in caves south of Camp Samuels. The problem is they're friendly, so you have to murder them to get it. But when you murder them, you can also get past the one blocking the passage, to learn more Terror. I can't see another way to do this.

You know what - I worried about this at first, when hearing the GF enging was going to be used. But really, the setting is totally Avernum. You don't feel Geneforgey in the least. All the names, the monsters, even the colour scheme. You won't be disappointed.
  21. Quote: I would highly recommend against purchasing this game - practically anything else in Spiderweb's repertoire is more deserving of your hard earned cash than Avernum 4. Erm... so have you actually bought and played it yourself? Or are you basing your opinions on zero knowledge whatsoever?
  22. He's not easy, it just took me about ten trys on a regular four-party playthrough. I finally won when for some reason he went into the altar room at the side (I had opened the door) and got blocked in there by some shades I summoned, leaving me clearer to fight the demon. You have to be careful with summoning though, because he fires out a lot of charm spells. For this reason, keep your priest well back, because if she/he gets charmed, it's all over. It's not a bad idea to send out one character exploring and pick up the *item* on his body/coffin in the corner - it's useful during the fight to stay alive.

  24. Oh it is so worth registering - the game gets better and better later on. Really great eq to be found
  25. What item number is an Invulnerability Elixir? I need to cheat one in to get through this crazily difficult battle.
