  1. I really miss the fact that gain a level in a spell was a remarkable event. That level 3 of a spell meant more than just an extra 2% damage.

It isn't Direct2Download or Joe's Discount RPG Shack. Steam is as legit as the iStore.
  3. Has anyone had issues with Steam, or does Steam version seem to be running just fine?

You can play on Mac or PC with the steam purchase, and if you lose your game, you log into steam the game is there for redownload. Steam is actually a pretty useful tool, plus you get Achievements, which really don't mean much but can be fun to share/compete with friends.
  5. If it was even $10 here, and on sale for $8 on steam I'd buy here. But a $13 difference I can't pass up when I'm saving for a wedding. Unless you miss out on things in the steam version. The editor or something, or the ability to edit files? I know you can mod other steam games.
  6. I understand how you feel. I probably won't purchase Avernum. When you make me wait for a PC port, charge a lot more than an ipad version, and are just rehashing a game that was itself a rehash? Meh. I bought Avadon when it came out for PC, and the iPad price didn't bother me because it was a while later. But to release the cheaper version BEFORE the more expensive PC version? Sorry Jeff, you've lost yourself a customer.
  7. I'd be curious to see how Avadon sales broke down by platform, especially with the addition of ipad and steam sales.

  9. There was a thread about this a while back, but it seemed like maybe we could use an updated thread. Any good RPGs out there? I just got done with Bastion, which is a great, if short, action RPG. It has a "home base" set up, where you venture out to different areas. Cool interactive narration. If you walk north it might say "The kid decides to walk north for a while, doesn't find much up there though." Available on Steam and XBL. I just find it harder and harder to find games that interest me. I was playing Anno 1404 a.k.a. Dawn of Discovery, but those wide open RTS/city builders are only entertaining for so long for me. I need a story to drag me along. Avernum 3 is probably my favorite Spiderweb game. Avadon was okay, but dragged you along by the nose. Plus character development was pretty flat with the skill-web with its arbitrary prereqs. Anyway, I wandered offtopic. Good games to play? I've played most of the classics. Not any Ultima after 4, but those are hard to get into and have no choice when it comes to character growth.
  10. What I hated about Avadon skill tree was the seemingly arbitrary nature of it. You need to raise a party buff to increase a stat bonus to increase an attack. Or you need to raise a ranged attack to raise a melee attack. It wasn't really a skill tree in the sense that you started with a base skill, the trunk, and worked your way up branching out in different directions to specialize that base skill. It was more a skill web with seemingly random connection designed to do nothing more than require you to raise low level skills. I would prefer something like the Diablo skill trees if you have to go that way at all.

But it just seemed like a bunch of loose ends that needed to be tied up. Seems that you've missed a very important thread Click to reveal.. Heart Miranda was pulling your strings the whole time. She was working with the Tawon Empire along with Shadow Tarkus. The Tawon were also behind ogres, titans, wretches, etc... They were grooming you, showing you the corruption of Avadon with the missions. Miranda was pairing you up with companions who might betray Avadon, who had cause to be resentful. She was sending you on missions of questionable morality. And Tarkus was there to point such things out to you. They were working together to turn you against Redbeard. That ties up pretty much all the loose ends.

In those games, you can scroll across the map and click where you want to go. In Arcanum you can't really do that and have to constantly click to cross and area. That's my big complaint.
  13. I've played most of the older games, just didn't mention them. Planescape: Torment is my favorite game of all time. I've been PC gaming for a long time. I miss the Quest for Glory series. Not quite an RPG, but close enough.
  14. Well, Avadon is done and I probably won't replay. It was nice, but it doesn't seem like it would be all that different even with making different decisions. Next game on the horizon is probably Elder Scrolls V in November. That's a long time away. Any suggestions? PC preferable. I've tried to play some retro games, Might and Magic series, Arcanum, but couldn't get into them anymore. Arcanum seems cool, but the movement speed is painfully slow with no ability to scroll to the other side of the screen and set a way point. Such a small thing, but such a major annoyance. I like RPGs, but get picky sometimes. I like Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age: Origins but not 2, Risen was ok. Haven't tried Witcher 1 or 2 but I've heard they are annoying and cliche. Two Worlds 2 was boring. Love Elder Scrolls 3 and 4, and Fall Out 3 and New Vegas. I liked Avernum but could never get into Geneforge. The story was cool, but I hated that I was constantly having to remake my party. I hate too many options for party members. I know that's my personal nitpick. But I end up obsessing over the best choices and then you get access to a new option and have to obsess all over again. Okay, well, I appreciate suggestions.
  15. What scripts do I change to make this easier?
  16. Yeah, this is different than Avernum. I don't know for better or not, just different.
  17. You can't find him until later when more areas open up
  18. I went Sorceress. I maxed out lockpicking with her, so I take who I want based on the area I am going to mainly. That is, I take the character who is from that area or nearby, and someone to balance out the party.
  19. I just tried it, I'll let you know. Not sure how far into the game I have to get to find a secret door though.
  20. Is this good for the Windows version too? The file is in Avadon Files/Scripts

    48÷2(9+3)=?

From the link I posted: "When you have a bunch of operations of the same rank, you just operate from left to right"

    48÷2(9+3)=?

Yes, PEDMAS clearly states the order that you would approach this. Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication AND Division, Addition AND Subtraction. Parenthesis refers only to things INSIDE parenthesis, not things next to each other in parenthesis, that falls under multiplication. When dealing with things of the same rank, like multiplication and division, you go left to right. So you get 48÷2 = 24 24 (9+3) = 288. That's the only correct way to interpret this, and if you put it into a graphing calculator exactly as shown or into google, that is the answer you will get. Now, that may not be how someone writing it might intend it to be interpreted, but that doesn't change the fact that this is the correct way to interpret it as written. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/orderops.htm
  24. Yeah, there was that fan translation. But it was never finished. I remember near the end of the game finding gibberish text.
