  1. Well I've been playing Jeff's games since the first exile and I'm a programmer. I'd say that a "feature" that regularly makes the user angry is worth a bit of time to fix. When I'm outside of a city and I click on another point outside of the city I shouldn't end up in the city. It shouldn't be the users job to outwit the route planning algorithm. This has happened to me many times and it's irritating.
  2. But I'm not using the game on a touch screen. it's not even out for the iPad is it?
  3. Generally speaking the algorithm for getting to where you click the mouse works very well. But I don't like its behavior when leaving or entering an area is involved. I have many times ended up in a city when I'm trying to go from one non-city point to another. If I wanted to go to a city I'd click on the city. I'd suggest that if the end point, mouse click location, is >some small distance from a city, cave, etc, that the algorithm treat cities caves etc as inaccessible terrain. Since the player has to exit the city and replot his path anyway there's no advantage to including cities, except perhaps for computational efficiency. Also I was fighting Lord Chuckles near the entrance to the gremlin area. I clicked on him to get one of my fighters to attack him. The route planning algorithm took my fighter to the exit area and my whole party was suddenly outside. Since I was winning that wasn't nice. When I went back in no Lord Chuckles. I didn't bother to search for him in that maze and I fortunately had a recent save. Must be a good game that I can be bothered by little things.
  4. Thanks! I missed smite because I lured the drake out of his lair to fight him and I only searched the lair.
  5. 1) There's a hidden switch in sulfras lair but it seems to be inaccessible due to a statue am I missing something? 2) What is the gap drake? I killed a chasm drake but didn't find the weapon named smite there. According to the women in Blosk I'm supposed to find smite when I kill the gap drake. 3)It would be nice if quests were organized or labled by location. Even better when you enter an area or town where you have a quest the list of quests would appear in a pop up window. Avernum has so many quests it's a pain to remember what you're supposed to be doing where. Thanks for any help!
  6. thanks! By the way how do you attack the dragon? I've tried and I can't figure out how to fight it. It shows as a friend and I can't figure out how to get it into combat.
  7. I've been told that I need to get my stuff in order before entering a trap door. I still don't see the deep woods. Is that right?
  8. I've got the Hand Gavin quest but the Beraza Deep Woods don't show up as a destination. Help! Thanks!
  9. boy I'm dumb. yeah it was there. don't know how I missed it. thanks!
  10. I did that but there is no scripts folder. I looked at the individual files and there doesn't seem to be one called avobjsmisc.txt
  11. Is there anyway to get past these runes? Thanks.
  12. I was planning on using the cheat to make secret switches more visible but I can't find any folder on my mac called Avadon and no sign of a scripts folder. I even made invisible files visible and looked in the app itself. Thanks for any help!
  13. There appear to be groups of 4 sliths that respawn periodically at the west and south bridges. when I finished the game I went back and used the editor to get my characters up to the max in all stats. I then went exploring in those areas were respawning sliths made it really untenable to go before. By the way is there anyway to get into the upper level where the slith archers are right to the south of the river below formello?
  14. Do you have to fight the whole town? The only entrance I see is the one in the supplies room which is blocked by one of those orges. Thanks
  15. I've been having one character collect all of my spiffy potions. Now that I'm going to kill the dragon I'd like to distribute the potions between the characters. How do I do that? Thanks!
  16. The other option is to go into the script file and assign the items between the code= and break; associated with the dialog for the completion of a quest to another dialog item. That way you can get credit for the spider quest--yeah they are nice--but not have to steal the egg. You can do the same for the spire mayor quest too.
  17. I tend to role play so running good characters I didn't want to help Gladwell but I did want to see what was under Erika's tower. So i went into the patricks tower scripts and changed them so that I got the rewards of the intermediate quests--I'd done the first one because it didn't seem to harm anyone--[i guess I used a charm spell on Gladwell... ] and set it up to start the last quest in Erika's tower. That went well and I killed Gladwell afterwards--he seemed to be bad news overall. He didn't seem to leave anything in the way of items however which was a bit of a let down. This being able to change the plot is great!
  18. X got rid of the haaki with his great spell. I went to Kelner and he said he'd unlock a room upstairs where I could learn a spell but I don't see any rooms where the demon was that have spellbooks. What am i missing? thanks!
  19. Jeff I think these are, except for case 2, suboptimal solutions. For case 2 I'd expect the slith to leave and not come back so the game works reasonably there. For case 1 i was able to complete the quest without fighting the little demon monsters. I still completed the quest because I got the papers. In this case running made the quest a lot easier. Seems strange For case 3 the question is since I cleaned out the nest shouldn't that count? Also if they killed all but one of my party who survived only by running for his life would they really abandon their nest? For what it's worth I'd recommend that case two under the portal should be changed to have the demons hang around--hate to fight them but more "realistic". I'd recommend that case 3 the scuttlers hang around to be killed later, they're not that smart. Anyway great game.
  20. several times I've run into combats that I only survived by getting one character to run away from. Most of the time when i go back the creatures are still there and I can fight them. but on at least 3 occasions they disappear. 1) documents under the portal quest: I was swarmed by the little demons that came from the room before the room with the scrolls. i managed to get one character out. When I came back the room was empty and I was able to get the scrolls after fighting the two guardians in the room. In this case the lack of returning monsters was good 2) came across the manburner projection supervising a demon event in the north eastern corner of avernum controlled lands. Was overwhelmed. Got one character away. came back ready for a fight, no one was there. Don't know if this hurt me in any way--lost treasure etc 3) scuttler cave for ft monastery: Went in was ambushed got one character out. came back cleaned the place up--although the ambush scuttlers were gone. Went to the fort the commander doesn't recognize that the scuttlers are gone. lost a bunch of gold I can understand from a "realism" perspective why event 2 played out as it did. But events 1 & 3 should have left the monsters hanging around, especially in the case of event 3.
  21. turns out the Ft. Draco script doesn't work. But the scripting language is sufficiently clear that i was able to modify one of levits dialogs to fix my problem. Thanks!
  22. No i did go in through the cave. I'd found the entrance before I did the formello quest. I have fixed the problem by editing one of levitts dialog scripts. thanks for the help
  23. never mind i edited the script and fixed the problem
