  1. I agree on the item placements, it'd be nice for it to at least work, but adding shortcuts for individual towns is probably unnecessary. The reason I would use it would be, say, to add junk items to dressers or perhaps on tables. There really isn't much reason dressers in town X would have significantly different contents than town Y. If there IS a reason, say one is a barracks one a townsfolk's house, you can add extra items by hand. Oh, and did I mention earlier that a "Make all items contained" feature would be nice? I remember thinking it, but don't know if I said it aloud.

This is what the Add Random items command in the Town menu actually executes. That is why the latter is so set - piece, the choosing actually takes place elsewhere. No, it's definitely broken. The problem is that you can SET the percentage in the Placement Shortcuts window, but it just ignores the random chance and treats all items as 100%. Quote: A good idea is to shift the Edit Item Placement Shortcuts command to the Town menu, just above the Add Random Items command. Perhaps, but I believe the reason that Edit Item Placement Shortcuts is in the scenario tab is because the shortcuts apply to all towns. Add Random Item is used in individual towns, Edit Placement applys to all of them. I suppose you could have it in both places....
  3. Yeah, that was pretty freaking lame. I didn't even think of that. Oh, and clear all items is broken as well.
  4. Out of the contests, which do you feel had the highest quality of entrants? The Fourth I guess. Out of the contests, which do you feel had the lowest quality of entrants? Probably the third. Apology and Brotherhood rocked, but it got thin in a hurry after that. Out of the contests, which results do you most agree with? The Sixth Out of the contests, which results do you least agree with? Well the 3rd was pretty questionable, but instead I'll go with the First BoA contest. What is your favorite scenario out of those who won a contest? Emulations Which scenario do you most think should have won its contest that hasn't?* APOLOGY GOT SCREWED!1!!! Which contest winner do you most think should not have won its contest?* Masks Do you plan to enter the 9th Contest when it comes? Yes Do you plan to judge the 9th Contest when it comes? Yes Overall, which contest do you think was the best, in your opinion, taking everything into account? The Fourth. Great scenarios, results were pretty consistent. All around good.
  5. Reviving is excusable, throwing away scenarios is not. GIVE THEM LIFE, DAMN IT!
  6. *Bump* I just wanted to point out that since Ermarian changed it's address, Rakshasi's graphics can't be viewed anymore. Do you have your own site or any place else where we can see them?
  7. Jeff's around, everybody act casual. (*Whistles nonchalantly*)
  8. Is there any way you could make it so that one could turn on height labels for drawing terrain or floors in 2D mode? As it is, whenever you place a terrain all the height labels go away-- it would be nice when drawing hills if you could make them stay, especially since that's about the only thing I use 2D mode for.
  9. Mystic: I was really talking about E3 and BoE, where it's a challenge but certainly not impossible to pull off. I can't say I've ever played Exile 1, though out of the Avernum's I think A1 was the hardest in the early goings and thus the roughest on singletons. Mars: I have absolutely no idea what you just said. Oh, and congrats on your canning.
  10. You know it makes a backup file before it changes the outdoor size, so your scenario hasn't really been corrupted. Open up TV.bas.bak to get back on track.

  12. New Request: This goes hand in hand (at least in my mind ) with the idea of having creature's scripts not just read "default" but rather their real script. I was thinking it would be nice to have a "Reload Default Creature Scripts" option. Basically the problem is that I'll place a bunch of custom monsters with no custom script (And thus Basicnpc as the default) then later alter the data when I decide I need a custom script for that creature. Unfortunately the editor still remembers when Basicnpc was the default, so I have to either write all the scripts in by hand or replace all the monsters. This new option would recheck what every creature's new default is, and set their current script appropriately.
  13. I've always thought the singleton party isn't really a 'challenge set up.' In the beginning it can be rough, but before long you'll be so many level ahead of your enemies that nobody can land a hit on you in melee. Paralysis and webs is the only real problem. In Exile it was a real challenge.
  14. Not even close. Oh, and I'm on a Windows and using Build0039.
  15. I've had a problem with the 3D editor's Change Outdoor Size feature. Basically it corrupts various towns, which eliminates its usefullness for obvious reasons. I've tried it with various scenarios with no success. Has anybody else had this problem?
  16. If that was you who created that thread, then I'd like to say way to spread the good word. However, I'll personally be playing my Avernum on my computer, less math that way.
  17. Woohoo! I m teh winer!! Now I just have to decide where it fits into my rankings. I'm feeling a little conflicted.
  18. OK new problem. I have the two medallion halves, the chain, the purple berries, and the potion. However, I don't have any ember flowers. Where was I supposed to find them? (And anticipating future problems: I repair it using the cauldron upstairs, right?)

  20. That did the trick. Thanks.
  21. As promised I'm home in time to play The Final Spire. Unfortunately I'm stuck, and the contest deadline is breathing down my neck. What do you do when you're trapped in the crystal? It says "If only you have a diamond..." Well I don't, and I have no idea what the hell to do. Help please.
  22. The only way I can think of would be to take away all the default spells and replace them with custom ones. After that it would be fairly easy to keep track of adding an SDF counter in the spell's code. Any other damage would be assumed to be done with melee. I'm not sure what you could do from there to actually give resistances to the monsters. You could have entire sets of monsters (Regular Bandit, Fire-res bandit, Ice-res etc.) and replace them appropriately. Or you could give them element resistance armor (isn't one of those calls broken? That'd be critical here, but I don't have the appendices on this comp.) Also you could give hardiness for melee res, or Resistance stat for general element resistance (which wouldn't be specific to one element, so is probably a bad idea.) The more I think about it the less practical it seems. Custom spells seems the only good way, maybe somebody else will think of something.
  23. New idea: How about if when you select "Load Different Town" or "Load Different Outdoor Section" it actually brought up a menu with a list of every town/outdor number followed by its name? Town numbers are easy enough to remember on small projects, but outdoors are hard to keep track of without a list, and when opening up other people's scenarios its a pain to find stuff.
  24. How is it that I never knew about the copy/paste feature? This could have made my life a lot easier a couple times. You learn something new every day. My earlier suggestions aren't so useful now I know this.
  25. I would like the ability to somehow set what scripts terrain scripts start out with, instead of it always just being dummy, and be able to define what value was in each memory cell. And along the same line, it would be nice to have the same thing for creatures. So for example, you'd select "Set custom creature Script" Select abilnpc, memory cell 1 to 1; and memory cell 4 to 5. Then every creature you placed would run script abilnpc with those memory cells already set. You wouldn't have to be constantly opening up creatures' scripts and setting memory cells.
