Tyranicus, it just wouldn't be a true Avernum experience without razordisks.
VCH, have fun when you actually start charging at things. Jeff shall smite thee! -

There were several battles in which my fighters did more damage to themselves than to enemies thanks to ripose, but arrows can't be riposted.
Still, little is more annoying than to haste/bless/shield your fighter, send them charging at a strange enemy, and have them run back and attack you after landing one blow. (Haven't had a priest taken out in such an encounter yet)
I'm just thrilled to have my fighters (one who's mostly an archer) wielding some classic über-weapons which are finally usable again. After the downgrades they suffered in A3 and BoA (when you can find them), it was nice to see these two sharp things back in the hands of my party. Pointy-side up, of course. -

Nuts, I really want to discuss strategy. And I don't think I can with out violating the NDA.
Oh I hate this. -

Me horde unless stuff? Never! My current BoA party has, it turns out: 163.5 pounds of potions, 97 pounds of scrolls and wands, 118 pounds of spare hand to hand weapons, 199 pounds of spare bows and arrows, 166.5 pounds of herbs, and 144 pounds of spare armor. Luckily in BoA there's no penalty for carrying around so much heavy junk.Quote:Originally written by Thuryl:
I have the same problem with hoarding items. I save them for when there's absolutely no way to get by without them, and almost inevitably end up not needing them after all.
Seriously, my parties in BoA, A3 and A2 all carried about 20 wands that they never used, my fighters would all have 8 or so extra weapons and suits of armor, everyone had a ton of scrolls, my BoA archer carries a lot of unused ammo (thank you Alderague), everybody's potions account for a lot of weight (I just know those 60 healing potions will come in handy someday), and the parties' excess potion ingredients would seed a forest if planted.
My A4 party keeps maybe four wands (which do get used, since pyrotechnics that nobody can cast are fun), almost no excess armor, no excess ammo (though this is for a different reason than you'd think), and hardly any extra weapons (my archer keeps three swords on hand, but that's it). Granted, they still carry a ton of excess potion ingredients, but that's because they never have enough potions. Excess and greed are punished in A4, and the righteous shall tread lightly and survive. (Who wants to be weighed down by extra armor when you have to flee from a fight?) -
Sometime in December, I believe.

Let's see... I forget what I used for A2 & 3. Nothing interesting, if I recall, though.
For BoA, I used a nearly-indestructible human fighter with some priest spells (enough to heal & cure himself), a nephil archer with a decent sword and some mage spells (enough to cast light & bolt of fire), a human mage with Morog's Scepter for some SP relief, and a slith priest with a decent spear and some points in Lethal Blow ('nuff said).
For A4, I find that a super-quick self-healing spear-wielding human fighter, a sword-wielding sharpshooting nephil archer, a pure human priest with nature lore and first aid, and a spear-wielding slith mage work the best. Much more specialized, but for a reason (A4 is tough...).

Welcome to Spiderweb, Tyranicus, and if nobody else has said this, remember to leave your sanity at the door.

Uh... carrying over from the other topic (one of them really ought to be locked), that hermit near Delis doesn't really do much of anything, if I recall correctly.
According to one of these walkthroughs , you need to go talk to Winterhouse in Lorelei (he owns an inn there). Ask him about rumors he's heard.
It appears you had things out of order, as Foxfire doesn't come into the picture until after you've spoken with Winterhouse. Have fun with the Mad Monks (you'll see what I mean later)...
EDIT: Another helpful tip... it helps to use the EDIT button instead of double posting. It makes fewer people angry.
EDIT 2: Had to fix the link.

I have to agree with you there, Kel. Keyboard movement got powerfully awkward when auto-centering died. That, and it's annoying to accidentally skip text boxes when you're holding down a keyboard movement (particularly when moving south and pressing 1).
But I refuse to give up on it... I just have to wave the mouse around to shift the view and make sure I don't walk into something painful.
-
Huh? For which game? Are you an A4 betatester?
-

Maybe I'm just one of the slowest testers, so everything is fixed by the time I get to it, but I've found beta testing to be not very different from how I play these games anyway, which is to try to expose every pixel and complete every possible quest. I'm still getting a handle on what constitutes a useful beta report; basically, you need to make purely illustrative save files. -
Chicho, I believe Espionage meant Bon-Ihrno, not Rentar. Bon-Ihrno is the one vahnatai elder who helps you throughout the game (usually appearing in the form of a shade), and whose house you can pass by on the way to Rentar's Fortress. And Bon-Ihrno is a he.
-
I believe Quick Strike does both, but Dexterity is an easier way to act sooner. However, it appears that I was wrong and Quick Strike is only in BoA. That is, if it's in A3, I couldn't find it in my ridiculously-advanced save file.
-
Don't forget Quick Strike (though that's just in A3 and BoA, I believe). But then again, that takes a while to get.
-
If you don't accept Erika's boon, it's just a longer walk through the Great Walls. A lot longer.
And you never really kill Rentar. Even if you do, the plot unfolds as if she hadn't died (I know this because I had an hour to kill, and I spent it slowly killing Rentar).
-
Ah, yes. That would be the normal thing to do. I personally remember leaving burning footprints in the cave floor as I left, such was the speed of my retreat.
-
Did you do something to anger Erika during the game? That could very well be the cause...
Did you agree to accept her boon? (did you get the special amulet which makes getting to Rentar much easier)
-
I believe that once you agree to go kill Elhioc, you've agreed to help Vothkaro. Thus, you can't kill Elhioc and Vothkaro without cheating.
Once you kill Elhioc, you're on the way to solving the Trog & Giant problem.

Whoah... you started over?! That's a bit extreme... she probably would've been back in the same room if you'd followed Maroonmark's advice.
And it's not a bug, it's just the fact that characters tend to leave the room if you leave the door open, and only then. For some reason, they can't work doorknobs unless they're chasing after you to kill you.
-
Well, if you left the door to that room open, she could be anywhere in the Tower. Maybe she's just been running so that she's never where you are.
-
Not sure which one you're talking about, but if it's the one by Blackcrag Fortress, no. You get insta-killed, if I recall correctly.
what is your group make up?

—Alorael, who will say two things. Poison is nastier than it was in previous Avernums, and killing with poison gives experience now. (Poison also has become the most common cause of character death, but that's subject to playing style.)
