What's the best avernum?
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Hutkija0's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Hey, how are y'all doin' today? This is my first post in months. I just want to ask Thlis Avatar why you don't think Avernum 1 has no plot. I do agree it's not as thick as 2 @ 3 or even 4 (which I haven't played yet but just ordered today!), but that doesn't mean it has no plot whatsoever. Any game that has missions and wingame finalies has to have some sort of plot somewhere. Oh and by the way, I voted for Avernum 1 and BoA! -
A2 Wishing Pool
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Eldarion's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Just to reply, I have used it a few times. It seems that if your luck is high enough, you can steal the coins from it without people seeing you. Other than that, it has no other purpose I know of. I forgot to mention. If you do steal from the pond and are caught, you lose 1 or 2 points of Reputation. Sorry I can't remember, it's been awhile. -
Will Exile ever be carbonized?

Really!!!! That's cool.

The "silence period"
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Erika Maroonmark's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
About how the silence period was done when I was an apprentice is something you can privately talk to me about, but not here! It was done way differently. -
A3: Troglodyte Castle
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Michael W.'s topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Yes, very open...after you kill the guards, dispel the barriers and kill more guards...it's wide open! -
A1 - Slith Temple
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Ik3's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I've also hidden my tower behind a rock cropping with a hidden entrance. But please, before you try to enter my tower, be sure and talk to Kelner first. It wastes your time, and I won't open the door for you. -
[ Originally written by Marak-13. When the going gets tough, members of the Triad get going.] Hey I take offence to that, I was just gathering my thoughts. I couldn't do that with the thought of a powerfull demon within feet of where I sat. And scared people always wanting to ask how we can get rid of it (sorry Kelner). Thanks to me the demon was destroyed.

[E3] hostile evil acolyte in Bolton
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to ixfd64's topic in The Exile Trilogy
He doesn't thank you for charming him, because he was never meant to be hotile. I can't see why Jeff didn't change him since he was the same in E3 if I remember right. -

There are two such orbs in general, 1-in the ruined fort that Khoth tells you about. 2-in the strange cave. The one in the ruined fort is not the one the scimitar is searching for. The one you're looking for is in the strange cave. Walk through killing gremlins as you go. When you come to a point to go either right or left, go right. Around the corner along the west wall you'll find a hidden teleporter, use it. Go into the building and kill the Empire soldiers. Before you enter the other room though, search along the northeastern for a hidden room. Touch the rune TWICE. Go through the fort and you'll eventually find the teleporter. When you enter it it'll take you to the cave with the orb. When you smash it, two demons appear so you might wanna prepare first if you're weak unlike me. Go down the corridor and where it bends, search the west wall for hidden entrance, and enter the teleporter. Enter the building and touch the rune Twice again, and take the teleporter and you'll back at the beginning.

The Crystal Cave (A1)
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to 7ru7h's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
You can get 8 crystals, but you only need 6. Here are the locations. 1-Island south of Cotra 2-Island SW of Cotra, and east of the Slith Island Fort. Hidden 3-Inside the Slith Island Fort. 4-Hungry drake in caves west of Slith Island Fort. 5-One of the camps when you kill all the sliths at the NE camp you find a crystal. 6-Altar NE of Fort Dranlon (already mentioned) 7-Aranea Cave 8-Chasm Drake's Lair (already mentioned) There might actually be more or maybe that's it. hope this helps. -
I'm glad to see all this support for Terror's Martyr. I have seen him on here for some time. He may have some colorful moments, but he's helped so many people and contributed a lot to Spiderweb Software. On a lighter note...I made A4. I asked if I was in there and they said yes. But cheeseball's not there, and they said I'm angry about something. That's all they told me.

what party do you use?
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Dark Mage's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I have just started a new party for A2. Human Male Warrior- (all important skills up to 32) Human Female Warrior- (same as Jerry except up to 28) Human Female Priest- Priest spells and bow skill (just in case) Human Male Mage- Mage spells and Javelins skill (just in case) -
As you all know, I'm a mage of no small skill. To say the least I can't determine whether the Anama are evil or not. I do believe that their beliefs are a bit wierd. To say to not use magic because a few people used it for bad, that's stupid. If they say that why don't they also say 'Don't breathe'. The majority of mages use magic for good. I can even think of a few priests who used their skill for evil. So the Anama's way of thinking is stupid. And what about the Church of Divine Lucre? It's definately not holy, and they're priests. That's all I have to say on that.

If it's the one southwest of Fort Draco, it's Exile 1. If that's true, it's located at a hut near a lake in the caves across the bridge near Fort Draco, and all the way south. Do not take any west tunnels to another map. I hope that this info helps.

I know it was over 200. I know it was on Exile 2. I know it was dealt many times. I know I didn't cheat (i.e. use the editor).

Technical help
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to satate_master's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Do you change the resolution when you bring up the game to play it? If you don't you should, I always let it change it for me everytime. -
what party do you use?
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Dark Mage's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Synergy67- 'The two fighters and the archer are all sickness prone which leaves them with around +5% level up. The priest is sickness prone and has brittle bones--having no need to be a natural mage.' That sounds like a lot of work trying to keep them healthy., but I do see what you're doing. -
need solution for Black Halberd/brazier puzzle
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to ixfd64's topic in The Exile Trilogy
Wow that was quick. It took you less than four minetes after you posted to figure it out and edit the post saying you figured it out...cool. -
By Johnno-'I think its possible to drop via the editor, but I'm not 100%. There might be a couple of shops that do that, IIRC, but its been a while since I played it.' You are absolutely correct Johnny, tell him what he's won, Bob! Just go to Caius in Formello and he'll help you out. He's a friend of mine, just mention my name.

'Wipes tear from eye' That was beautiful! I remember oh so well...'stares off into space while thinking of multitudes of dead Empire soldiers'. I do have to agree, wait...I've got it. The Second Empire War is going on when the Vahnatai decide to attack...genius! I think it might work, I just came up with a crazy plot that (maybe) just might work.

what party do you use?
Arch-Mage Solberg replied to Dark Mage's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I always use 4 custom characters Human Male Warrior-Elite Warrior, Toughness Human Female Warrior-Elite Warrior, Fast on Feet Human Female Priest-Divinely Touched, Strong Will Human Male Mage-Natural Mage, Good Education This combination is pretty much the first one I used and I've modified it and this is the ending result. It works great...for me anyways.
