  1. Actually, I want to second that, though I wouldn't call it crude humor. There were a lot of GREAT sets of dialogue with different livestock, cats, and so on, throughout Exile and also, I think, Nethergate. I miss those details.
  2. Sweet on all accounts. Especially the part about having fun while writing the dialogue. That's a good sign if anything is! Grats on the progress.
  3. The majority, but not all of them. Khyryk certainly has some quality time with him, and doesn't say anything about him looking foreign, despite spouting off about Monarch for some time.
  4. 'Myself or other'? If you're going to create polls, please first ask yourself - What's the point of this poll? - Will it make sense to other people?
  5. Actually, the vowel in the second syllable is pretty different, despite both being written with the same letter. But yeah, they are similar names.
  6. Why is it that Geneforge absolutely breeds mispelled names? I've never seen "Garzahd" slaughtered in as many different ways as "Barzahl". It's "Hoge" and "Litalia" and "Khyryk" and "Akhari Blaze" to say nothing of the numerous drakons with less pronouncable names.
  7. Just a note -- I don't think anyone ever tested Luck-based damage resistance in G1, and since it displays the same way as it does in later games when it doesn't actually exist, I'm pretty suspicious of it.
  8. E3 doesn't have a specific previous party, but it does mention that you are not the first party of adventurers sent to the surface.

  10. There are a few other adventurer parties. In E/A1 there is the party that tried to raid the Pit of the Drake. There is also Gooley and Yong-Mi (though they are just a duo) and Yong-Mi also appears as an adventurer in E/A2. E/A3 had, of course, the previous Surface Explorers. There are handfuls of individual adventurers all over the place, just few whole parties working together.
  11. Also in the shareware area: Motrax has a piece of information you need to hear, and once you hear it, you need to put it to use. The Tower of Magi hides a major boss fight that you will need to complete. You will likely want to do this much, much later, but I believe all the necessary steps are in the shareware area.
  12. Exile 1 had the TuTORial. And the... no, I don't suppose I can make an awful enough pun out of Thairl.
  13. I know Jeff has posted in the past that the tutorial sections work well with his target audience, and that a lot of players need to walk straight into them. I think that makes sense, but it would be really, really nice to have an option to skip the tutorial. It wouldn't be hard to make it something you can't activate by accident. I mean, even Exile 3 let you turn off that !@#$ instant help.
  14. Seratis, congrats on finishing! Muffin, please stop acting like a mod. You have been asked this already. Although it was a little weird to revive this topic, it makes sense -- the new post is relevant and directly refers to previous posts in this thread.

  16. Is it possible to get past that 90 strength door without cheating, though? By my math, you'd need 30 Tool Use and 80 points between the three spell skills and Unlock Doors. I don't think that's achievable even if you don't put a single skill point elsewhere.
  17. Time doesn't matter in Geneforge. In Exile 3 and Avernum 3, there are two major things that happen after a certain amount of time, but the amount of time is fairly generous. Time does play a role in one of the Spiderweb-made Blades scenarios, but you are told about it explicitly there.
  18. This is actually untrue for Geneforge 2 and 3. Creations gain experience (and therefore levels) at a rate totally indepedent of their own levels. Thus, if a Shaper creates a Fyora with enough bonuses to be at level 20, and an Agent creates a Fyora at level 10, the Shaper Fyora will always be 10 levels higher. Also, Blessing Magic maxes out its effect strength (though not its duration) fairly quickly, so Shapers have no problem casting buffs that are just as good as Agents.
  19. That would be a pretty huge penalty in Avernum, though, given that your opportunities to earn XP are strictly finite. I'm a big fan of the way Arcana (an obscure, poorly-translated SNES RPG) handles it. If anyone dies, game over. I suppose it doesn't make a difference since most players will just reload whenever anyone dies, regardless of the game's consequences.
  20. Quote: Originally written by SevenMass: I don't think Jeff is seriously impressed by some mad parental group wanting to remove death from the game. Otherwise demon summoning and necromancy would have to go too. Not even mentioning the deaths of your enemies, and the concept of taking items that are clearly marked "not yours." Jeff has said, however, that this is more or less the reason that PCs can no longer summon demons, as they could in Exile.
  21. Different Thompson. That was Thompson the somewhat bizarre Kids in the Hall parody, not Thompson the mage.
  22. Exile II didn't have junk items, but I think it did have the five-use Horn of Warriors magical item.
  23. There is no way to keep Greenfang (without cheating or abusing the game engine). If he wasn't around to go rogue with Shaila, he will stay back when you head to the next province, presumably because he misses her.
  24. Rotghroths are not undead, nor do they count as them. (No, they aren't zombies.)
