  1. What I meant was we need to have some way to make money off of space exploration, so the corporations no longer need to depend on the government for money.

Otherwise there is not a strong incentive to do much of anything. As I said the possibility of finding new wealth drove the exploration of the world. It must also drive space exploration.

From what I remember, the self-inflicted titles did not stick because Drakefyre either removed them, or changed them to his liking.
  3. I understand that NASA distanced themselves from this publication. But I don't think most journalists will give them that credit.

As one of my friends said "to truly explore space, we need to get the corporations involved". Meaning that we need greed to drive space exploration, just like it did for exploration of the Earth.

Dr. Richard Hoover is a highly respected scientist and astrobiologist with a prestigious record of accomplishment at NASA. Given the controversial nature of his discovery, we have invited 100 experts and have issued a general invitation to over 5000 scientists from the scientific community to review the paper and to offer their critical analysis. Our intention is to publish the commentaries, both pro and con, alongside Dr. Hoover's paper. In this way, the paper will have received a thorough vetting, and all points of view can be presented. No other paper in the history of science has undergone such a thorough analysis, and no other scientific journal in the history of science has made such a profoundly important paper available to the scientific community, for comment, before it is published. We believe the best way to advance science, is to promote debate and discussion.

They did the review after the paper was accepted for publication. I know the editors statement doesn't make that clear. But indeed there was no review beforehand.

Oh and there's this Press release from NASA:

"NASA is a scientific and technical agency committed to a culture of openness with the media and public. While we value the free exchange of ideas, data, and information as part of scientific and technical inquiry, NASA cannot stand behind or support a scientific claim unless it has been peer-reviewed or thoroughly examined by other qualified experts. This paper was submitted in 2007 to the International Journal of Astrobiology. However, the peer review process was not completed for that submission. NASA also was unaware of the recent submission of the paper to the Journal of Cosmology or of the paper's subsequent publication. Additional questions should be directed to the author of the paper. - Dr. Paul Hertz, chief scientist of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington"

And a real astrobilogists from NASA says Hoover is actually an engineer.

    Here

  6. Since when does NASA let their scientists publish in non-peer reviewed journals?

    Life in meteorites

I understand that nobody has disproven this guys claim. But the fact that the paper was not peer-reviewed suggests we shouldn't take it too seriously. The world leading journals Science and Nature would never pass a story like this over if it where credible.

Oh and Fox news broke the story. uhhg

I was exited for a few minutes though. frown

  7. I've always thought Jeff should go back to the old exile style of picking locks. And by that I mean having the group smash the door to pieces. If my sorceress can summon a fireball, she should have no problem with a wooden door.

  8. Use speed scroll. Send the shaman and Blademaster to the upper wheel. Send the sorceress to the lower one. Don't get bogged down fighting, just move. Turn the upper wheel. Then immediately have the scorceress turn the lower one. The demon attacks you and the imps aren't generated as fast.

After this just let the sorceress die, and then resurrect her. She will appear next to your Blademaster and shaman.

  9. I thought this would be easy as it is a major plot progressing quest. Normally I do all the side-quests then do the main one. But this time I decided to do it differently, I wont next time. I'm going to go level up then come back to it.

Will the Hoklandian captain wait at the cave opening if I leave the area?

  10. Yeah, I thought that having two melee characters might help. I've been using my Blademaster and the Shaman and Sorceress for pretty much the entire game. This might be a good time to switch it up.

The pillars don't seem to do anything to my group. The text box says my group is confused, but there doesn't seem to be any negative to that. I've just been ignoring the pillar blasts.

  11. What strategy works best for this encounter?

On torment I can get to the point where all three soldiers attack. But after that they overwhelm my group.

And can I get to all the boxes behind the rock barriers.

  12. Well those particular scouts are dumb. When I found them I expected they would exit the area by following the cliff face to the western exit. But they instead take a torturous path through the middle of the map where all the ogres are still very much alive. I lost two of them because of their inability to follow a safe route. Why do they head off deeper into the Wretch lands any way? Don't they want to get back to the Dragon's lair?
