naming a character in Avernum
xxo replied to mistica's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
My current A2 party: Vern: Human swordfighter River: Human pole-arm fighter Maren: Human priest Sterling: Human mage In all my four-character parties, the layout is the same, unless I choose to replace the pole-arm fighter with another sword-fighter. I often use different names, but I may keep using the names I listed for future parties. I only ever use humans. -
Phyrric Gauntlets in A2
xxo replied to The Yeoman Cheesemonger's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
The only good thing about the gauntlets is that they provide more protection than other kinds of gloves. Even when the disease doesn't affect the party, I find the fact that a dialogue box comes up often, saying that the party has gotten sick, rather annoying. While the protection gained from those gloves is good, they're not worth the trouble. -
I usually just use the hintbook the first time, and then play through the game without it the following times, except when getting through that room with pillars in order to get the Black Halberd. I use the hintbook then to know where to step (and where not to step). I find that if I use the hintbook for part of a quest, it's difficult to stop using it, because I want to keep doing it perfectly. Therefore, I most often either use the hintbook for a whole quest, or I don't use it at all (or barely at all).

AV2: Getting into Olgai
xxo replied to Sevvie's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)

You can just give it to one person. If it takes up too much room, keep in mind that you only need one unit of food each time you rest in order to benefit your whole party.

Geneforge features in Avernum 4
xxo replied to Walter's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I can't say I really want any Geneforge features in Avernum 4. Since I had to choose, though, I said the ability to complete most quests without combat. The features I would most not like to see are numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5. -
A3: Item locations
xxo replied to Skribbane Freak's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Rache\'s Avernum 3 Website has the locations and statistics for quite a few items in the General Information section. Skribbane Herb: can also be found in the Shaydar Sewers Iridium Pants: in the Cult of the Sacred Items Fungal Armor: in the Slime Pit (in Kriszan Province) Thinking Cap: in the Tomb of Vahkos (in Karnold Province) -
I confess - I'm a cheat!

I don't think it is. You'd notice a fight like this one. Also, I'm pretty sure you have to go through a long (secret?) passage to get to the group of Efreet, so you may have missed it.

Yes, it happens if you stop the slime plague while Krizsan is somewhat destroyed. You will always get the crossbow whenever you enter Krizsan.

Favorite Race?
xxo replied to You get NOTHING's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I only ever play as humans, so they're my favourite playable race. For my favourite non-playable race, I guess I'd say dragons, because I can't really think of anything else right now. -
Well, it's been almost two years; the last update was November 18, 2002. I don't know what happened with it, but I'm not really expecting it to get updated any time soon.

Buying a house...
xxo replied to Kelar The Druid's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Hawke's ghost allows you to get the Alien Blade. You can't get it unless he's in the statue room. Oh and also, don't try killing the maid unless you've saved recently. -
Yeah, there's some in the Shayder sewers. I think there are two pieces in a secret passage. And Nicothodes, it seems as though the whole reason you want to get A3 is for the skribbane

Giants: Gotta love 'em
xxo replied to Bender Bending Rodriguez's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Yeah, but then again, I don't think there are any monsters who drop everything they appear to be carrying or wearing. I guess the ground would become unrealistically cluttered if monsters dropped everything they logically should. -
Buying a house...
xxo replied to Kelar The Druid's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
The only house you can buy is Hawke's Manse and is in Lorelei. I'm pretty sure you buy it from Lyle at Internal Affairs, and it costs 8000 coins. As for customizing, you can't do much. You really can only add and remove items from the Manse. There are a few good items in Hawke's Manse, though. -
The first time I play the game, I use a four-character party composed of two fighters, one priest, and one mage. When I play it again I usually use one character who can fight in melee and cast both priest and mage spells.

Simulacrum!.. what monsters are on your list?
xxo replied to Fefner's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I hardly ever use Capture Soul and Simulacrum, but on the one or two times I did, I had two Ur-Basilisks, A Dark Wyrm, and some kind of spellcaster. -
Although I like fighting doomguards, I don't like the slimes in A3 that split when you hit them. I can't remember what they're called, but I'm pretty sure you encounter them in the Pit of the Wyrm. Mauve slimes are also annoying as a lower-level party when they're far away or behind other monsters because I don't want to have to use spell energy on them, but I end up needing to.
-
If you're planning on eventually getting them all, I'd say go for A1 first. However, I liked A2 the best because, as it has been mentioned, it has the best plot.

A2: Dispel barrier
xxo replied to DrAbraham's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
You get it as a reward from Fort Emerald once you Kill Limoncelli. -
anama treasure??
xxo replied to vahnatai_hell_fyre's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
If I remember correctly, the treasury doesn't even have any magical items other than scrolls or potions. It just has some steel or blessed items that aren't as good as what you already have. -
Secret Slith location
xxo replied to disdil's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Quote: Originally written by The Holy Toenail: I've never seen any sliths wandering around. Is this A3? Please clarify. The secret sliths' fortress is in A2, and apparently in A1 as well, according to RC. I think this topic is about A2, though. -
I furnish and stock Hawke's Manse when I'm done all the quests. I've also gone looking for random items like sheets of papyrus in all the towns and dungeons and then sold them. After that, I just start over or play a different game.
