  1. I think you will need to talk to Patrick in his tower in the Great Cave for that. But I might be mistaken; I haven't played in a while.
  2. It is late, but that comment about the topic being for the education of kids gave me a laugh, considering: Quote: The Nephilim are hairy and ugly, like the French. And the Slithsizarski are cold and scaly, like the Canadians.
  3. You would rather have the each race love and respect each other as equals in Avernum? That would be a tad too unrealistically fluffy, and where would the conflict be if everyone respected each other? I disagree with the statement that most people in Avernum have neutral views about the other races. In certain cities, racism is a pervading theme with everyone's personality. By the way, when I first looked at this topic's title, I seriously thought that this would be about how almost all characters are white and there are few dialogue pictures (from Exile) with black faces.
  4. What do you mean by "on terrain"? The line of sight doesn't always work both ways so monsters can attack from a spot you cannot see.
  5. Maybe you should post the old list of bugs that have not been fixed yet; otherwise I think there will be quite a few repeats.
  6. That decision does not cause anything to happen. But I think the fight is nice light challenge if you are well prepared, and if not, you can drop your items in advance so you lose only gold. I remember the stone circle battle in E3 was based mostly on luck, but I do not know about A3.
  7. Check to see if the town has become angry with get_crime_level(), or some call named similar to that. Then set an appropriate flag if the town is hostile. I don't think there is a good way to make a town friendly again after it becomes hostile, though.
  8. General would be far better than Tech Support. I'd like this small feature as well, but I don't know how to really make Jeff implement it short of E-mailing him. But this request is relatively simple in every way I can imagine, so he might do it if he was bored for an hour while designing, well, Avernum 4 I guess.
  9. I think you should set an SDF for this to work. I haven't played BoA for a really, really long time, and it has been an even longer time since I looked at the door script. But I vaguely remember answering a similar question to yours with this answer, so there you go.
  10. On a small tacked on sign: TYPO: ALL VERSIONS ARE PUSHED BACK A FEW MONTHS. But even I accept that there is a fair chance that the beta testing and initial release will occur smoothly and on time.
  11. You need to grab the Mind Crystal shards and show them to Berra in Fort Emergence, who will then tell you that the Vahnatai are behind the plague(s). Then you can go to Ghikra and see that the Vahnatai have left because they discovered your discovering of their secret! The Efreeti and such will appear, and you can go on to win the game, eventually.
  12. Use the script that you have posted as a terrain one, and also give the character who is to go into the arena a life-saving item right before he goes in. If the item is found to no longer exist in his possession nor on the floor of the arena, then take the character out immediately. What triggers the item check is left up to you. But even if the character is allowed to die, you could just revive him and allow the party to pick up all his items again, so I don't see what the big *practical* problem is.
  13. Do you mean having any item in the weapons slot, or a specific one? Either way, though, it would be pretty difficult because the player would have to be checked at practically every turn. It is late, so I haven't thought this through, but doing something creative with a cursed weapon might help.
  14. I find it useful when there is only one character who should act for several rounds consecutively. This is only necessary in special situations, like combat puzzles, but I like to use it when my party becomes God-like and I want to see what a single PC can do.
  15. Another one of those times when you want to ask Jeff, "Why didn't you just do a search in the text strings for 'Exile'???"
  16. It is all about luck sometimes. I managed to defeat the 4th shade just in the demo with a shaper, and even as a guardian the second time around. But it was very, very difficult. The treasure lying on the ground there is not all that great, but regardless, you can just pick up the loot and run if you can catch the shade on an off round. Killing the last of the shades will definitely require a high level, though.
  17. If this is Avernum 3, not Exile 3, then Delis will never become friendly after you steal the herbs from them. Just make sure that you have done everything you could possibly want to do there before stealing the herbs. I have not played in a while, so I am not sure if there is anything useful besides what has already been mentioned. I do not think you had any trouble moving past the guards and the high priest in the inn and leaving the town, but in case you did, there is a bug in the game that allows to leave the way you came into the room. If you have one of your non-leading characters in the room to see the interior, and then the leading character next to the wall and adjacent to the box, you can search the box to steal the herbs. The secret passage will close, but since the leading character is outside, he can continue moving, and the game will place the 'trapped' character back in line. You would be free!
  18. Did you read the instructions for playing custom scenarios present in the game help? You just have to put the folder of the custom scenario into the "\Blades of Avernum scenarios" folder in your Blades of Avernum game directory. Then, when you start the game, the custom scenario should be listed.
  19. it has some resists, but there isnt a point to the bonus natr lore. interesting for ppl who wnat to do everything in the game.
  20. Are you telling me that you will get a free ash crossbow every time you enter Krizsan if you do this? Of course, I would rather have an unlimited supply of bolts instead of unlimited crossbows. But free stuff is always welcome... I do wonder what could cause this extremely odd bug, though.
  21. I vaguely remember that the distance between the Isle of Bigail and Kneece is short enough for you to fly from shore to shore, provided that you have the Orb of Thralni, of course. If this is not possible, then use the editor to ressurrect all dead characters. This will cause monsters to respawn instantly and even characters from hostile towns, but Olga will be alive again. I cannot remember exactly where the option is, but it is in the editor.
  22. Well, no one is saying that this new proposed path through the game is favorable to the intended, original one. But it is something interesting to try, and everyone loves poking holes in the logic and consistency of games and stories. Not visiting Formello is an oddity, though. There are many things to do there, not to mention quests and such. As a side note, I find little use for Tool Use above 8 points of it at level 25.
  23. Blademaster and anatomy will help greatly your fury-fisted character deal damage. Dexterity improves your chance to hit, as always. I do not think that assassination applies to fists, but if it does, then all the more power to punches. Same goes for lethal blow. I know that the punches had not a damage cap in A1-A3, but that is not a problem in BoA. I have never tried to build a punching character in A1, though I have experienced the possibilities of punching by using the character editor to make a God PC. I believe accuracy starts at 40% and goes up in increments of 5%. Damage from strength progresses slowly, at no where near the rate of melee weapons which have large dice numbers for their bonus.
  24. He is wondering why reputation really matters because though he is at 0 reputation, therefore his party has the "Loathed" title, everyone still talks to him. I believe he is just using Cotra as an example; it is just like any other town for his argument. Reputation makes many small parts of the game easier, and is definitely required for some quests. But the reputation requirements are usually very low because there are many ways to lose reputation in large intervals, but only a few definite ways of gaining it.
  25. You could make a silly custom terrain type just reserved for monsters asleep. You could have the terrain script have a memory cell to contain which monster is "sleeping" in it. When a character moves into the space, the character is relocated next to the bed.
