  1. Don't give up yet.

I think it's possible you already have the key. Check your special items screen: do you have the Silver Key? The tunnel is an outdoors encounter and you can't ever enter it as such, you can only pick up the key once.

Reading your first post again more carefully, I note that you refer to "opening the doors to the chamber". You don't need to open any doors. There is a secret passage at the north end of the east wall of the circlet chamber. You can enter via Meena's bedroom. You can access Meena's bedroom itself via another secret passage, from the east. This leads to a long passage and a door to the brigand's lair.

    Hope this helps.

  2. 1) Re Bolt of Fire, it doesn't do anything that a decent pole weapon can't do, and better.

    2) Re Anama not talking freely to anyone outside the Anama, let's remember we're talking about a crisis situation here (plague of disease-bearing cockroaches). Get some perspective. The people of Sharimik are even less friendly - at first they won't let you into their city, for pete's sake. As for Gale, as soon as the mayor claps eyes on you, you're thrown in a prison cell! Give me the Anama any day.

  3. That's good advice.

The only thing to add - giants aren't difficult to kill, the main problem with them is their attacks do a lot of damage to your PCs. So if you haven't already, invest in some decent armour, defense skill and dexterity.

  4. That's nothing to be proud of. Most of Mondrian's paintings looked like this:

Yes, it's just a lot of straight lines and coloured rectangles. Sigh. No wonder modern art consists of a lot of pickled cows...

Edit: this is a reply to Mr Thralnai, not Mr Ephesos. He sounded pretty proud of his compatriot.

  5. Proposition. Garzahd is a rubbish wizard.

Proof. Suppose, in order to obtain a contradiction, that Garzahd is a really a great wizard. Then he wouldn't be scared of a bunch of adventurers. So he wouldn't need to hide away in the far corner of his fort. And he wouldn't need to create impassable runes to prevent moving around his own fortress. And he wouldn't need to create a massive barrier outside the fort to stop people from entering. And he wouldn't need to conceal the coordinates of his fort. Nonetheless, Garzahd does all these things. Furthermore, if he had any intelligence whatsoever, Garzahd would simply cast three kill spells on anyone wearing a ring of will - thus neutralising any potential threat. Yet he doesn't. To sum up then, Garzahd's behaviour is inconsistent with being a great wizard. He's actually a bit of a wimp, and relies on his summoned demons to defend him. Thus is demonstrated the desired contradiction. QED

Next week: Erika is less of an arch-enchantress than a sub-mumbler.

  6. This is just unsupported speculation. There is no evidence to suggest that this unfortunate mage was executed by the Anama - it is far more likely to have been a rival mage.

Any Empire that requires magical enchantments to keep itself in power is undesirable, and we'd be better off without it. If on the other hand the Empire is fair and virtuous, then it will survive without the need for magery.
